  1. The thought of no Brisky until poss late tomorrow is horrendous! No matter, best of luck to those who are carrying out all the work on our behalf and thanks for the time and effort. See ya' Sunday (I hope!)
  2. Boots were also owners at one time. Here's a potted history: The Ward White Group purchased the business in 1984 and then the acquisition of the Group by The Boots Company in 1989. In August 2002 Halfords was acquired by CVC Capital Partners from The Boots Company. In June 2004, Halfords was floated on the London Stock Exchange as a FTSE top 250 company.
  3. An update to my post (Post 16) of 1st December. Still none the wiser! http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8388253.stm
  4. This info might be of help. No mention of costs though - presumably much depends on the work involved. http://www.ofgem.gov.uk/CONSUMERS/CCI/Pages/Gasmetermoves.aspx hth
  5. Microsoft investigates Windows 7 'screen of death' Just for info in case someone is mystified with what's/what's not happening on the 'black screen' http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8388253.stm

  7. Here's an example from Barclaycard (using a very low interst rate). Keep in mind the figures show the interest you would pay for just 1 purchase. Imagine how much it would be with dozens of items over a year if you didn't pay in full! This is why some people get into dire financial problems. The examples below show how long it would take you to repay a purchase of £1,000 made with your Barclaycard: How long would it take to clear the balance? Minimum payment per month: 12 years and 2 months £50 each month 2 years £100 per month 1 year 1 month The following assumptions have been made: You are charged the standard 6.8%. However, the examples take account of any introductory promotional purchase rate. When you make the purchase you do not exceed your credit limit. Calculation excludes Payment Protection Insurance. £1,000 purchase is debited to your account on 1st December 2009 and no further transaction made. You make a payment each month on the payment due date. Your mininum payment is 2.25% or £5, whichever is greater.
  8. The usual rules are: Interest free period: maximum of 45 or 56 days (depends on card) for purchases when the balance is paid in full each month. Interest: Whenever an interest free period does not apply, interest is charged to your account from the date of the transaction (note: not the statement date) and will continue until the statement balance is paid in full. Interest is calculated daily on the account balance. I'm not sure many people appreciate just how expensive credit cards really are if they don't pay the balance in full every month.
  9. Just had a look and the issue seems to have been resolved this morning http://status-cable.virginmedia.com/vmstatus/serviceissue.do?ticket=1137058 hth
  10. You can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time. But you cannot please all of the people all of the time. It's because we are all human!

  14. This is spooky as I was thinking this during the weekend 'outage'. According to the thingy page, the last activity from Mo was on 13 Nov 2009 at 03.47. Let's hear from you Mo! (tries to insert smile but can't).
  15. So it was you who gave Brisky the virus! Know what you're suffering - I caught it during our last cruise off the Mexican Pacific coast. Spoiled holiday somewhat! Current fault pevents sending you virtual supply of malts. Shall I attempt to get some across the North Sea on one of the pipe lines? Get well soon!
  16. Hi swmbo's fabia has developed a strange morning fault. On several occasions over the past couple of weeks she has gone to start it for the 1st journey of the day to discover the mileage trip has gone back to zero, the clock is at 9pm and all the preset radio stations have switched to Radio 4! Any thoughts/ideas most welcome. Thanks

  20. The technical quality is excellent, given it is over 80 years old. I'm surprised there is virtually no 'judder' - the movements are amazingly natural. Thanks for posting
  21. Just in case you happen to have one of the14 million potentially dangerous chargers BBC NEWS | Business | Nokia recalls 14m phone chargers
  22. Alas no! The average gross profit for a newsagent is 25% of cover price of the newspaper. Same for mags. So unless you are selling zillions of copies of the Sun @ 20p, then keep playing the Lottery (where the margin is 5% on sales )
  23. Just had one of these Belling electric fires installed, replacing gas and before that coal. Brilliant! With the use of a remote control you can adjust the intensity of the flame, have flame only or fan heater (2 settings) all from the comfort of your arm chair.
