  1. You are a haver. You seem to know so little about crime it is unreal. Just see what vehicles are being searched for for those that shot or attacked someone, fire bombed or what ever. More often than not for Glasgow it is a Skoda. As to high value cars, Many of these vehicles are owned by financial institutions. They are lased cars, offshore workers cars, all sorts of people. How long are people parking there expensive or inexpensive EV,s rapid charging, or are they fast charging at Park & Rides etc All very very strange, where there is EV charging there is electricity, storage batteries and controllers, odd to have no security cameras.
  2. Are there EV,s parked in remote charging spots and no ICE vehicles there also? No idea what the point is of any of it really. I see cars on Long Term Parking / Storage areas for weeks and months. In supposedly secure sites with warning signs of companies owned by convicted drug dealers, protection racket crime families. You dare touch them. There is no security just signs. Sometimes Cameras on Tri=pods in hi-viz.
  3. ^^^ Nail on head, Seemingly EV,s catch fire and are hard or impossible to put out and people steal high and low value cars. Never heard of any of that in the recent past, went right on by.
  4. What is the 'even' about targeting Fiestas? There has always been the theft of Fords and other common or garden cars. Mk1 Fabia are taken as well 4 hours and lots of water on the Merc van. Then what, was it in a skip of water or in a storage facility 150 feet from everything else? .......................... Bails of straw combust at this time of year, they can burn down building, the Emergency rescue / Fire Services can be there for hours. ****ing down now, that has possibly put an end to that risk. What a shame for any farmer with the bails still out.
  5. It does not have 13 kWh usable does it? Leaves an ickle room for regen incase you start off down hill. 1% of 100% hardly matters if 100% is on 11.7 kW,(usable) My MINI is 28.9 kWh usable (32.64 kWh battery) and only wants to charge to 99%.
  6. Morrisons. 1 available @ 79 pence a kWh. Raw Greene Kings Gardeners 2. 75 pence. 22 kW. Then the others, just ridiculous pricing. IMO.
  7. @Graham Butcher I know there are lots of posts. I know this stuff, i think we all do here. For years they left Scotland into NI and across the border and then away by sea. Huge businesses built on criminality of stolen / cloned vehicles. Transported on legitimate transporters. Do you think the parts that vehicles required came out of thin air in the days before the internet and mail order parts. Scotland Drug Death Capital of the world, where was the money laundered other than in the Scottish Motor Trade. Stuff even travelled in scrap. inside crushed cars. There is a reason there is so much drugs and crime in Scotland and that is the selective deaf, dumb and blind. That would be local councillors and politicians and police officers.
  8. When you nick a car, maybe clone it you might well get away past ANPR, stay off the radar a while, fill up at filling station or anyplace. Break it and sell the parts, do whatever. You can do the same with a Stolen EV, hide it,s location, charge in public or private and get away with it. I have a friend who's career has been clocking cars, taxis, hire and sales cars and now EV,s. He takes off limiters, makes sure there is no OTA upgrades etc. He is helping criminals, drug dealers etc that do not want traced, do not want HMRC knowing what they do. He started skipping school, became a computer hacker, worked in the computer games industry and he knows it all. Now there are kids that can do what he does, but he travels all over the world and does it, they do it local. ? What did you mean by this? Long Term Parking?
  9. @Graham Butcher please just explain please your thinking on the issues of parking EV,s and the difference from an ICE vehicle as far as crime goes. Stuff like that makes no sense to me in any discussion on BEV,s or PHEV,s and public charging. (The surveys do ask about if you feel scared, concerned and about lighting, security etc and ev charging, and accessibility, disabled users etc and these come from the AA, RAC, Motability, Which and the various others involved with motoring or car sales.) Lack of and the price of Public charging is the biggest issue for private EV drivers, and even some company car ones.
  10. We trust our nearest and dearests lives when they work on our vehicles. On job training has a lot to answer for, or the Colleges including the ones Arnold Clark own that train too many. https://gtg.co.uk
  11. EDIT. Chill, i don't give cuss if they pinch a leased or rented car, ev or ICE. Have you got ulcers? Obviously it is not always the case. Nothing is always the case. The point is toe rags that are in the crime / thieving business are more clued than any other people including the Police. You will more likely have your car tanned or your house because you used a garage, a valet person, or someone that gets access to your car. same with your house or business. Trusted people with a habit they can not afford and they have to be helpful to others with tip offs. Or dodgy police officers might be even more common than them. Then there are a special crowd who have their own code and languages and cultural differences and take anything anyplace from anyone. If you complain they say they are 'special', they have a heritage. Well that heritage was not being thieving chancers. PS People know where you are all the time. Ripping out and disabling Trackers is one thing, blocking signals is nothing new. You were talking about EV charging and i was saying you can know if the car moves. Big deal. ? So why are EV,s more of interests to criminals?
  12. Was it there first day working on Skoda,s or VW Group cars? Which of Scotland's amazing Motor Group Dealerships had this employee, was this West End ?
  13. @Graham ButcherWell there is getting out there and doing things and seeing things. You had to be there. Maybe go try an EV. Junkie barstewards centre punching the glass was an issue. But who wants that stuff they took these days? Opportunists doing a car for stuff seen is an issue but people are a bit more switched on now. I am surprised how clear people leave interiors of cars these days. Mine are like mobile under stair cupboards.
  14. @Graham ButcherI think the difference between us is i worked in garages, had friends with scrap yards, used scrap yards, weighed in scrap and have know car thieves and all sorts of dodgy geezers all my life and bought and sold accident damaged cars and repaired them. So if there is something about cars crime or the likes that i am unaware of i am always willing to be taught. Otherwise you are teaching Grandad to suck eggs. As to free charging and the remaining districts, maybe check out the pinned thread at the top of this Section about Scotland. A CPS RFID card is now £12. You can get more than 1.
  15. @Graham Butcherno problems. I only charge at AC chargers if free & i am passing time or if needs must waiting to get on a Rapid. ? Why do you think EV,s are more interest to toe rags than an ICE vehicle that is parked in the same places or less recently developed locations? There is more chance of being caught by cameras with newer vehicles and especially commercial EV.s As to stealing the car that is a high risk issue as pretty much all can be tracked until they get disabled. The key fob or phone app can have a Panic / Attack alarm to activate, you know if your alarm goes off, or the vehicle moves. But that is not just an EV thing.
  16. @Graham ButcherBecause i am disabled, a leg amputee with 4 prolapsed discs and the car seat is the comfiest for me. & i can have it on heated. I used to take my e-Bike with me and go cycling but my back really went bad. I had a TXT number on the dash with a EVA Scotland card and if someone needed a charge i could return to the car. The Park & Rides and car parks are CCTV'd up. Tesla and others have cameras and go near them and they activate. Scotland has dark and dingy charger hubs, thankfully sometimes because you can go for a pee. I am not aware of Charging Hubs being Dogging Spots' because really they are pretty well monitored one way or another.
  17. @Graham Butcher people take their car or bike or go shanks pony to collect the work car, the car club car or van or whatever. People very much do park up plugged in and head off by bus or tram or train. There are people that embrace it, know the cost and benefits or otherwise. Loads hate EV,s want shot of them and will change employers even to not have them. It is the present and the future and a change of lifestyle for many. Covid coming again anyway and Euro 7 and maybe shortages of materials and vehicles, even energy. Energy prices rising and that will be Petrol, Diesel & Electricity. Que sera sera.
  18. Overfilling would be silly. The thing is that is what they are accused of. Driver error when the Manufacturer, importer and dealership employees know damn well who has not remembered Vorsprung Durch Technik. Make the simple procedure even simpler, and sort out the faulty parts / cars electronics.
  19. I wait, with the car. People are not WAITING near me. Their car is charging, they are working, shopping, visiting, today the kids are at a dance event, they plugged in PHEV,s and EV,s THEY GO HOME, they check the App, see if the car is charged and go back. They are driven back to where the plugged in the car and bogged off leaving others maybe needing a charger. That is not just a Fast Charger, greedy barstewards plug in and charge and lock in and drive away and might or might come back that day. This is where no Time Limit, or tariff, or they set the timer to not charge too long, but still hog the bay and charger and get no penalty because no wardens. The Hospital Car park has NHS cars plugged in ready, fully charged for tomorrow, others sitting in parking bays. As does Social work, Planning, Roads, Printing and other council cars. There are people off walking. Some plug in just because, because there is a charger. If you never use half or even a quarter of the range you do not need to plug in for an hour for 7 kWh, or less on a 11 kW or onto a 22 kW charger when you get only 7 or 11 onboard charging. Yes people have to pay attention if the car is charging still and will have the energy in for the journey they are doing, but nobody except me and a few others that are charging addicts are at charging hubs waiting on Fast chargers. @Graham Butcher Later when cooler & maybe once the rain passes i will go charge for an hour for free. Charge 2 phones, and a chrome book and post on here and save my self £3. Spend it at Tesco on the way home, maybe have 4 kWh from them for free. Well from some of your taxes maybe. I will take a picture of the cars charging with nobody around waiting on them.
  20. Welcome. Very reliable over the years. Get an extended warranty and be careful doing AdBlue top ups because Dealerships say 'User error' when well they know 'Design / component faults'. So the TDI,s with SCR / Adblue then it has been a few years of those now and they have been basically OK. Horror for those with a fault. We never know how good cars / engines are after a good few years until a good few years pass. We know about ones from 2017-2023. It will be another 3 years before we know how a 5 year old ones from 2021 are doing.
  21. Heated windscreen are lovely. But that might well defrost the screen. The condensation, side glass, in the cars fabric etc is not resolved because a windscreen can be defrosted quick. Many an old Ford is a drier place inside compared to an old Skoda. eg Fiesta vs Fabia.
  22. How many EV fires have hit the newspapers this week? This thermal runaway stuff is such a load of tosh. The Diesel electric hybrid ferry did have an overheating battery this week. but then it likely got a WTF is this weather shock. If in Scotland there are any EV fires i will be paying special attention to the news stories because i pretty much read everything there is to in the media.
  23. @Graham ButcherI am pointing out there are 2nd hand EV,s that are as cheap as the ICE version & there are new cars no more expensive than the Petrol or Diesels now. The Manufacturers are becoming more desperate. But there are transporter loads of new EV,s going on the road because regardless of the Private Buyers / Renters there are Fleet, Hire & Utility companies, local authorities and emergency services getting EV,s and getting them cheap. Motability among them. Have a wee trip to Scotland and see just how many Green Flash registration plate vehicles there are on the roads and yes sometimes in driveways, but often just parked roadside.
  24. Off to ASDA for £1 damp traps, or packs of them. one in the car and one in the boot from next week. Well while in stock, and before next weeks drop in temperature and all the condensation threads on Briskoda start. There are dozens from the past decade just search. See the Getting ready for winter Pinned in the General Automotive chat . Prepping for winter. My car is damp, my windows ice up inside, water runs out my doors. my fuel filler flap freezes. This is a Central European Car Manufacturer issue ongoing. Odd that where weather can be more extreme than in the UK the VW Group are pretty hopeless with winter conditions. UK winter is moister though. Not enough cold or dry cold long enough. Well location, location, location, because the UK is quite long.
  25. You can pick up Electric MINI,s for much cheapness. There are loads of the things about. (Just not the Level 3 which i really think they are not building.) Vauxhall Corsa Electrics 3 years old low mileage are under £14,000 and some had the RRP @ £34,000 and more 3 years ago. New ones can be got for much less than the 'Asking Prices' you see about. BMW, Mercedes, VW, JLR can not first register the higher emission ICE in the EU or the UK unless they get lt's of electrified vehicles Registered and on the roads. Their cars or Partners EV.s. Because of the Fleet Average Co2 & getting fined on every vehicle sold if they fail to meet the right number. BMW, Daimler Benz & VW deserve the problem because they are behind the Diesel scandal so chickens came home to roost. They need to punt EV,s even at a loss to sell the high cost ICE vehicles.
