  1. Different densities. Some daft VW Techs doing oil consumption tests actually did the tests with a litre of oil as 1,000 grams. Messed up the calculations. eg, Top invoice. The member got their new engine.
  2. @promomastWhich Tesla does he have?
  3. I was hoping for a speedy response from an Engineer that would have had it in their head after posting on here. Near what google says with 7.6 lb for an imperial gallon of gasoline. Diesel is different again. If anyone wants to run with maybe 1 litre low on the engine oil that will be a 856 gram saving.
  4. Those surveyors might be best concentrating on Schools, Hospitals , Court building etc. Car parks can get closed, or have reduction on usage, then demolished and rebuilt and there might be disruption for a month o 12 for motorists / commuters, have to demolish a school of exclude people from it and that is real disruption. .............. What is the weight of lets say 5 Imperial Gallons of petrol, and how more efficient is the vehicle with that weight reduction? The Engineers here will know that, or very quickly be able to check. 'Just add lightness' as one famous designer of cars said. Run the car on LPG and maybe get a higher octane and a weight advantage and remember all the safety stuff for fire warnings.
  5. @promomast I have no heath issues, thanks, never been healthier since i was fat and 40 and eventually was diagnosed as type 2 diabetic after a year of high blood pressure and being asked, 'are you diabetic?' and saying no. Eventually i was asked 'have you ever been tested?' As to EV fires, car parks and car weight. EV,s vs SUV,s etc. 44 pages of that just in this thread. Different cars, different needs. Run a BMW with staggard tyres, run flats and see the price range of those. This is just a choice of Tesla Tyres in this size.
  6. All about the Dudes and Dudettes that get the jobs, and the supervisors and the employers and the crip sheet. Resolution / Communication managers are a special breed. Hot desked and no long term memory of the issues of the products and issues. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/502758-dsg-advice-request
  7. It is similar as in it is a TSI and a cambelt. I take it yours is a 1.4 TSI but not a 1.4 TSI ACT. If it is or even not the £320 is much cheapness taking into account the parts & VAT.
  8. Are you sure, just because you were not aware of the pump priming when you opened the drivers door does not mean your car did not do that. Just a suggestion. You have checked stuff and are asking here, well you have more checking to do.
  9. There will be some people getting Government Grants and from the food industry into research about obesity among EV drivers & the cost in the future to the UK. All these Coffee / Cake stops and going into places just to use a toilet. Then the peeing around the vicinity of EV charging hubs with no facilities. Like the issue for HGV drivers and others and lay-byes / stop over places with no facilities. There is the commercial opportunity for 'Reasonably priced charging' & suitable facilities provided by local authorities at Park & Rides and th there are Low Emission Hubs required, for Commercial Vehicle change over points for local deliveries. 'Automated toilets work'. Toilets that are automated and self clean are what was required years ago and were introduced then seemed to be removed. Plenty people will pay a £1 for getting a crap rather than having to maybe get into some Fast Food place that serves crap to go! As it is even where there are Park & Rides in Scotland there might not even be 24 hour toilet facilities or even 6 hours in a day facilities. The Governments are full of Wind, P!sh and Solar but not really moving with the times.
  10. Welcome. No idea if your car is like some other Skoda in that the fuel primes when you open the drivers door if the car sits a while. Is there maybe a Door Loom issue?
  11. It is, and so easy to go buy some and see if the memory of them and how they taste now is as you like. I would eat Sugar Puffs or Frosties all the time, but i am already a fat barsteward with type 2 diabetes. Just to brighten up your day, if you get type 2 diabetes and lose a leg or 2 then you might end up driving an automatic or even an EV. Thought of the day, watch your diet or you might end up driving a dodgem or worse.
  12. Time to maybe start looking at what is on offer and available now for fitting in month or so if changing tyres.
  13. Part of normal wear and tear has nothing to do with anything. Skoda Main Dealer servicing includes according to Skoda 'Body Inspections'. They might not get done. This is for the Paint Warranty for 3 years and the Corrosion Warranty for 12 years. To identify any damage, or repairs not done to Factory Standard, maybe not by Skoda / VW Approved repairers. So this is a Sales Car, should have pre-sales inspection, as it sounds like an Approved Used Sales car if that is what your 'Das Welt Auto' is. I thought that was VW, not Skoda. So it appears that Skoda Dealer is prepared to turn out used cars with poor preparation, maybe no preparation by them, just as the car came in from Auction or an Auctions Refinisher or others. It needs prepped and painted / preventative measures to inhibit rust. You need to pay or have them pay. But first you need to talk with their Dealer Principal and the Warranty Manager and not some random person at the dealership. ? Who did you show the car too, as in what was their job?
  14. Welcome. You need to talk and have in writing a conversation from where you bought it. What are the T&C,s. (142 checks by someone with poor eye sight?) Looks like you never inspected close enough and maybe the sellers never, or possibly they had 'Kerb Side Auto,s' there favoured touch up person make it look ok for sale but not actually do any pre and rust inhibiting and then refinishing. (Joey it up with some colour match that lasts about as long as the first wash the car gets!) ? What age and mileage of an Octavia is it?
  15. The stuff from the filling station pumps has to meet a standard but then depending who produces it or distributes & retails it might or might not have 7% Bio in it. Just like with petrol the E10 might not have 10% ethanol or the E5 5%. The good thing is that we buy the stuff and use it and get to know if paying attention if any of the brands or grades makes a difference.
  16. There is a motor in a crate to replace an engine. I will not bother pulling it off as that usually results in going, wish i had not done that and going to get rubber bungs from a dealership. (I watched the dude in Norway. i at least learned from driving BMW,s that you pull the bonnet lever twice to open the bonnet.) Strange as he must have driven BMW,s. There will be no frunk in the new MINI,s. You can not put 2 pints in a 1 pint container. ^^^^ Bright guy, maybe brilliant. But take the rear floor in the boot, you have choices, you can even take that floor out and the other bit below that that covers the tool storage area. Thank goodness the design was not left to him. You might even take 2 passengers 2 an airport with luggage with the floor and parcel self removed and one seat back dropped. Head for thinking and feet for dancing, and use your brain before moving your mouth maybe. The Fuel Filler Hatch & Charger port is where it is because the car / body is for a Petrol Engine. They used the same quarter panel and put a different flap on. Perfect position on a Right Hand Drive car. Maybe not for the Left Hand drive, but such is life / design. Done to a price point for 'Much Cheapness' with them in the US of A.
  17. I suppose i could dust it. I put in some -10*oC Windscreen Wash for when this heat wave is over. There was a grass frost on Saturday morning early.
  18. Is the rate anything like 30 pence a kWh for Tesla drivers? Can private Tesla drivers get 20% vat back like a business user, or BIK so tax payer assistance to be green? Or green if not using electricity from Gas or coal or wood chip fired power stations?
  19. You can drop the DD anytime with Eon Next if they let you and do not say it is too much and then you have to phone them and tell them to do what you want not what their computers say. But then like the last time I increased my DD the system is having a brain fart. Does Octopus not have brain farts? I think of Richard as D!ck at times when he knows the price of everything and not always that accurately. He seems to do ok. Waiting on his reply about the Drop in the cost of domestic electricity is in the future but certainly not now. I am giving the Fixed Tariff offers a miss. I have no smart meter and an getting no smart meter. As to home tariff, 3 pin charger from now or maybe lower from October. Maybe more from January is, 10 kWh for maybe £2.99. 3.5 miles to the kWh. 35 miles. 70 miles for under £6. All the man maths needed for many to understand if comparing petrol / diesel with electric. No solar, no wall box but can get off the road and to a socket.
  20. They are just diesels, they run on any old crap. Dervs, heavy oil, go go juice. You are not driving a performance diesel with a Skoda TDI. It is just you can not run the TDI,s on WVO etc.
  21. I have lots of experience of this type on lots of vehicles but not a Superb, but small hatches, hot hatches, estates, saloons. MPV,s You need to protect where you put the clasps, helicopter tape. you have to set it up very well. Take weight on the bumper or where it sits, protect against dirt scratching there. Be careful of the roof straps with spoilers, get the angle of the dangle right for the straps. You might need the rear wiper off, or tape the switch so you do not activate the wiper in error, or be sure the wiper is not inhibited by touching anything. You need the hook / strap tightening the carrier down to the towing eye or whatever with the carrier loaded. So bikes on you can not open the rear hatch. You need the bikes very high to clear lights, but that is not good at 60-70 mph, also an issue at some car park height barriers, or under railway tunnels to beach fronts. You need a light board if lights obscured, you need a registration plate on the light board. Use extra straps to secure bikes. Reduce the weight of them if you can with bags, bottles etc removed. Be aware of the length of bikes sticking out from the width of a car. Not a problem with a Superb really. That is about it, use common sense and a £30 one is about as good as a £130 one.
