April Fools ?
'Do they mean 'open' or 'unlock'?' Looks like this is to open. Here's the routine to open the glove box.

April Fools ?
OK so I'm late to notice this - Only aware through watching an old Fifth Gear on TV tonight. Checked it out on the old Interweb and here it is: https://www.teslamodel3wiki.com/how-to-manually-open-the-tesla-model-3-glove-box/ Yes - 'To open the glove box from the Model 3’s screen, touch Controls > Glovebox to open it.' Still kind of hopping it's some sort of April fools joke but can't find any references to 1st April. Please, please - somebody tell me this is an April fools joke.

WIFI Cameras
Hello Looking to get a new compact digital camera. - Cannon PowerShot A470 shutter is failing - appears to be a recognised fault resulting in massive over exposure. Not looking at anything expensive - no more than £200 I notice that even at this price level most are WIFI cameras. Not really sure what this amounts to or whether I really want it. I'm sort of presuming the primary function of WIFI cameras is for tracking rather than any functional advantage for the user. Are they effectively WIFI dependant? Presumably you will always be needing to find a WIFI signal to connect to? If you have a WIFI connection does that mean you can photograph / video direct to your computer rather than store on cameras own SD card. Apologies if these are dumb questions - I was into photography back in the film days but have no real interest in digital beyond getting something that will do the job as simply and reliably as possible. Thanks

Who or what is the biggest threat to SKODA?
I moved from an Octavia 2 (1.9 PD) to an Octavia 3 (1.4 TSI) The change from Octavia 2 to 3 is largely a cost saving downgrade for Skoda. Even before I made the move I was aware of the rear suspension downgrade (but probably underestimated its significance). I have since become aware of many other cost saving downgrades - less significant but annoying all the same. My message would be - don't buy a new Octavia assuming it will be equal to or an upgrade on your old one in all respects. Having said that I am very glad to have the 1.4 TSI rather than the 1.5 TSI

Difference between 2.0tdi 115 vs 2.0tdi 150
Just noticed some good news though - I'm fairly sure that when the Octavia IV first came out the detuned 2 litre diesel was your punishment for having the cheek want the luxury of a third pedal. Seems now though that we are being allowed the 150 version with a manual gearbox.

Why are people still ordering Octavia IVs?
let's face it, these days most cars have issues, it's nothing out of the ordinary, Aye that may well be true - which just makes it all the more depressing. Most are I suspect in large part due to inadequately prototype tested technologies being rushed into production - as such entirely avoidable. I know I've said this or similar before but a demonstrated commitment to prototype testing and development would be a major selling point for me - Much more so than an extra (on paper) MPG, MPH or another new fangled intelligent assist trying to take over.

LED Magnifiers - Recommendations.
In the UK RS Components appears to have quite a range, including those at the more expensive end of the scale. For bench work there is also the option of this sort of thing https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/clarke-sam127-desk-mounted-magnifying-led-lamp/ but I'm not sure of the pros and cons of this versus the wearable type.

LED Magnifiers - Recommendations.
Looking to get magnifiers. This sort of thing: https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/led-head-magnifier-visor/ This particular one is at the bottom end price wise, I would be willing to spend more - £50 or more if there was good reason. Main use initially is for re-tuning harmonica reeds - fairly intricate work - but with advancing decrepitude will no doubt find lots of uses. Fairly sure I would want a pair with a light source as it is always difficult to arrange a good enough lighting. Anyway - any particular advice or recommendations based on your experience.

Buying Superb III after SII
Wonder if it's clever enough to detect slurry spreading - doubt it though. The two main reasons I switch on recirc being slurry spreading and smoke from fires - less frequently smoke from diesel buses. Often though by the time you smell it and dive for the recirc button it is too late

Buying Superb III after SII
Aye - Sunroofs. Or as I would be more inclined to view it a roof that someone has gone and put a hole in. Weakened Shell More weight - As high up as possible Reduced headroom It will leak eventually Very noisy when driving at any speed If it is glass plenty are cracking Another potential corrosion area Something else to go wrong More light into interior - but I don't want the interior lit up and loads of reflections, I'm concentrating on the view outside the car. All for the advantage of being able to burn the top of my head on a sunny day - Not quite bald yet but getting sparse up there. And people buying new cars actually spend extra money for this. Interesting though if you look at adverts for older cars 'no sunroof' is often listed at the top of the list of desirable features, cars with a sunroof - the sunroof either doesn't get mentioned and the photographs are carefully taken to avoid it being obvious or alternatively they are declared along with some lame 'not that bad really' type story. The words 'no sunroof' needs no additional selling. I have been both lucky and unlucky with sunroofs: Saab 900 classic - Not leaking when sold at 20 years. Very seldom open it should be said. Ford Escort MK V - Leaked like a sieve at 4 years.

Sunroof Sunroofs come in 2 varieties. 1 Leaking 2 Not leaking yet

Why are people still ordering Octavia IVs?
OK - should add to my original list (1-3), additionally (4 -6). 1. Not noticed the latter. 2. Dismissed the issues as trivial. 3. Know of the issues but have faith that Skoda will sort it all out in the end. 4. Yes there are issues but they probably won't happen to me. 5. The competition have issues as well. 6. Still the best match for my needs within my budget. 5 & 6 - Wouldn't argue with these. 4 - Only if you feel really lucky.

Always been good advice but at this point in time, more so than ever.

Why are people still ordering Octavia IVs?
I'm genuinely puzzled by this one. If you don't go near this forum and you believe the motoring press I could understand it, but folk on this forum must be aware of all the problems and the abysmal response from both Skoda Dealers and Skoda UK, yet some are still queuing up to buy - as witnessed in 'Deliver times?' thread. Of all the threads viewed in parallel it's these two that I cant reconcile. Delivery times? How many have rejected or are in the process of rejecting? I have to assume that many of the people on the former thread have either: 1. Not noticed the latter. 2. Dismissed the issues as trivial. 3. Know of the issues but have faith that Skoda will sort it all out in the end. Myself, I don't think the issues sound trivial and I can't really have faith that a genuine fix immanent. For the future what I am looking for from Skoda is a demonstrable commitment to prototype testing - I know foolishly optimistic.

Later Mk4 builds.
"That alone should put people off" - Don't worry, it does. Mk 3 owner here, not ready to change at cars for a while but wouldn't even consider a Mk4 at this point in time. It will take a clear admission of the faults from Skoda, proven rectification of the faults, and a good run of cars without faults before my confidence is restored.

HAD ENOUGH
That indeed is the problem - inadequate prototype testing. It's worse than that though - It applies not just to the software, but to the entire car.

XC60 Like your smartphone But bigger
Aye. If it were as easy as it ought to be / is claimed to be - How about this Skoda. Forget about the 'complimentary' car wash with a service how about a complimentary satnav update instead?
-
XC60 Like your smartphone But bigger
Indeed. A motoring press that was interested in cars rather than infotainment systems could help educate more consumers about this con - but not much chance of that.
-
XC60 Like your smartphone But bigger
Aye - that's the depressing thing. I guess these are the folk this add is aimed at. This advert is not unique, can't remember the brands and models but quite a lot of the car adverts on TV seem to focus on infotainment systems. Not sure but was it a Seat where you were supposed to zoom around while the car took fun photographs that it would then send to your mates. To restore some sanity - A proper car advert from back in the day.

Sportline on the way
'2.0 TSI 190 with 4 wheel drive' - Sounds like a decent amount of go although this one will probably be fairly expensive. Makes no difference to me though - another promising sounding spec ruined by DSG - Looks like no manual option other than on the 1.5 TSI. I'm very happy for DSG fans they have no end of options but in the dying days of the internal combustion engine it would be nice to be allowed three pedals and a manual gearbox - the way things are meant to be.
-
XC60 Like your smartphone But bigger
Oh well, at least it's reassuring to know that I'm not the only one that is not persuaded by the "Like your smartphone But Bigger" sales pitch.

XC60 Like your smartphone But bigger
On my second Skoda right now and as good as the first one (Octavia 2) was, beginning to realise the second one (Octavia 3) was perhaps a case of miss-placed brand loyalty. Octavia 4 is a nice looking thing but has not reversed any of the downgrades brought in with the Octavia 3 - It has even added a few more. Starting too think about what else is out there, Ford Focus is the 'obvious' alternative for me but don't want a 1 litre, don't want a hybrid of any variety and the ST is Just a bit much . Had a look in Volvo's direction (despite suspecting they would be too expensive) - almost immediately stumbled across this add. Now it may well be that this would appeal to many but it's like someone specifically set out do produce an add steer me clear of their product - "Like your smartphone But Bigger" - Well my phone is just a phone, not a smart phone, I don't even want my phone to be like a smart phone. For a car I can not think of anything less appealing than being like a big smart phone.

A scam I presume
That's kind of the gist of Nationwide's explanation of how this number ended up with danger flags. They also said it can be based on who the caller says they are - even without a caller ID. Agreed, I would expect this number is only for Customers to contact Nationwide. Still wouldn't entirely trust any incoming call as being genuine. I was just checking the number before I used it. Only proceeded after calling a branch to get confirmation that this Customer Service number was OK

Music on SD card muddle
Thanks EnterName looks like this is the problem. Just looked at the problem tracks. Under the general tab they look OK - Track correctly identified by name and Location correctly identifies artist and album. Under the details tab Album and Artist is Unknown, track is only identified as track 1. I have now manually entered the info into the Details Tab for one of the tracks and checked it in the car that seems to have fixed it. Thanks again.

Music on SD card muddle
When transferring music onto SD card to use in the car everything looks fine when viewing and listening to the SD card on the PC. I take the SD card out to the car and a few albums get split - whereby the first track gets separated from the rest of the album as a track on its own, this also looses the artist and track name in the process. Go back to the PC with the SD card and it is fine again. Any way of sorting this? Hopefully not too complicated. Thanks
