  1. All instructions are here earlier on this thread.
  2. The flap on my old 406 got stuck closed. The car steamed up and stayed steamed up. My somewhat primitive solution back then was a full frontal flapectomy. Things were better after that with no more steaming up, and the air con did work, but I guess it was probably not at full efficiency in all situations and of course it was no longer possible to close it when desired because of obvious air pollution.
  3. Heated is pretty essential when your seats are leather.
  4. Just in case anyone was wondering, there is never any need to reformat an SD card. Just delete what's on there.
  5. You say you have replaced the compressor and re-filled the gas. Was this done with the aim of fixing the system but it's still broken? If so, take it to a reputable firm who will properly diagnose the problem and save you more £££ in the long run.
  6. Amundsen here with similar behaviour. It's most likely a software issue and not a hardware problem. Sometimes helps if you can reboot it by holding down the power button for long enough (15 secs?)
  7. Looks like that file is some sort of zip archive. It's a big one
  8. Hello Hardware H41 and software 0475 here. PM please?
  9. Interesting tip there. Should I remove my tin-foil hat before or after entering the car?
  10. I believe (but I am not 100% sure) that the difference between a 2025 and 2032 is the battery thickness (and capacity). If you fit a 2025 in a hole intended for a 2032 it may not make proper contact. Also it has less capacity. 2032 means 20mm dia and 3.2mm thick.
  11. Looks to me (I am an electronics engineer but not an Apple user or a Carplay expert) like you will benefit using a wired connection. LPCM would be linear pulse code modulation, meaning the phone is doing the decoding from whatever audio format, and sending it to the head unit as LPCM.
  12. In most of my regular driving, the start-stop is pretty much useless. Traffic lights around here almost always cause you to stop, but often not for as much as 20 seconds. Most junctions become dangerous if the start-stop has killed the engine just when you need to move off without delay. I often use the local bit of motorway and never want the engine to stop just after coming off it at the junction, for engine lubrication and cooling reasons. So it stays switched off by default. I do enable it when I feel it's going to be beneficial and not harmful or plain dangerous. But this is not often.
  13. The end result is the same - the DSG has to go the long way round. It's not a huge deal just something to understand about how it operates.
  14. My VRS-TDI/DSG was always changing up too early. OK I know it has plenty of toque down low and maybe I was the one that needed adjusting. But then put it in S-mode and the thing just wanted to rev its tits off. Much happier now with the TSI/DSG Doing manual shifts with a DSG is often jerky just because it has pre-selected the other gear and not the one you want. So you're in 5th and tip down to 4th but it was pre-selecting 6th for you.
  15. My previous Octy was a VRS TDI/DSG and it was almost never in the gear I wanted it in. Used M-mode a lot.
  16. You can buy simple piggyback fuse connectors for this sort of thing. Pick any suitable fuse in the fusebox to take switched power from.
  17. Usually gentler than the first service, more important to get it in than out, even at the risk of a more challenging return. Avoid the dreaded double-fault.
  18. Is the car new to you? On the lower door speakers, there should be a short wide plastic tube that connects the speaker to the door card. They fall out easily if you remove the door card.
  19. The DSG in a non-VRS? Yes absolutely. I'm comparing my current 190-petrol/DSG against the previous VRS with 184-TDI/DSG. The Diesel VRS changed up way too late with the DSG in sport mode, especially when you took your foot off the pedal. My new petrol SE-L is much nicer and sport mode is quite usable.
  20. That's probably true of the VRS but the more mild models are more reasonable with shifting up in Sport
  21. I wonder if anyone on the forum knows what type of vermin an unopened sachet of Burger King mayonnaise would attract? I'm pretty sure there is at least one of them tucked down the side of my front passenger seat.
  22. I just re-started one of my bikes it's been locked up and covered since last May and very pleased to say it started first time on the button, thanks to keeping it on the battery charger and filling it with Superposh unleaded (despite E5 on the pump) before putting it away.
  23. It may be labelled E5 or E10 but from what I've read, in the UK supply currently there is not enough of the biofuel component produced to actually make up all E5 to 5% anyway. It will take some time before it becomes a reality. If you are worried about running a modern German car on the stuff, try running a classic, or a motorbike.
  24. It's not a perfect system but its better than not having any. Think of how many accidents have been prevented, how many lives saved since TPMS became a thing. Most treat their cars as an appliance, never check under the bonnet, get their blown bulbs fixed at MOT time, completely ignore the state of their tyres. The system used on these cars is in some ways better than having those sensors in the wheels. It does assume that, if you have a partial flat in one tyre, you get that fixed and check all of the others at the same time, before resetting the system.
  25. Some versions of the Octy were built with a hidden air sensor, it can detect strong odours such as soft cheese and garlic, perhaps this is triggering the cross-border software.
