  1. My Elegance was built in June 2012 and has the premium bluetooth kit. My S3 will connect via hpa or rsap depending on whether I select the standard or premium BT setting in the maxidot. The connection works perfectly every time with all the expected functions available. So I conclude that as long as you have the latest firmware on your S3 phone you should be able to connect to the car in whatever mode the car supports, assuming that the car kit is working properly. 2. Having a spare is just practical insurance. You weigh the risk of something bad happening against the cost of protecting against it. Some people are risk takers, others will have a spare and a can of goo! I have had the occcasional slow puncture (50 miles at 50mph would have not been a problem) and have only had two 'flats' in the last 15+ years, but they were both within 3 months of each other. Luckily I had had the original tyre fixed in time. Would I have died of exposure in a remote location if I didn't have a spare? No, but I was still pleased to have one as the cost of the spare versus the cost of callout/delayed travel was, to me, worth it.
  3. If your spare is directional then you only have a 50% chance of having a spare that can be used at the full speed limit or event at all!?
  4. If, when I try mine tomorrow, I say "ooh, shiny white light" then yes! If there is no shiny white light then no, and *ugger! Just hope that they last a decent amount of time, which at the moment means 18+ months, otherwise my answer may turn to no! Update: Fitted them onto my MY2013 (I assume as I received it 23rd July 2012) and have come on with no errors. Nice clean white light, much more in fitting with the quality of the rest of the car. Is £30 every (estimated) 18 months worth it? To me yes, as a small fraction of the cost of ownership of the car it is not much and I think that that final touch completes the look. Sent via Tapatalk
  5. That's good to hear, I received mine today but not yet tried them Sent via Tapatalk
  6. Ah, I made the assumption that you could get the maps legally from places other than the dealership, similar to how you can get skoda parts from places other than the dealership, often cheaper.
  7. From http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/safety/winter-tyres-in-the-uk.html and relevant to the UK: If you fit winter or all-season tyres in place of your standard 'summer' tyres there should be no need to tell your insurer – even though the speed index might be lower. However further down there is the caveat: Over the winter of 2010/11 we did hear reports of some insurers increasing premiums or remarkably even refusing cover if winter tyres are fitted. As a result we recommend talking to your insurer if you are considering fitting winter tyres. I suggest that you take a look at the complete page/section and decide for yourself, but for me it reads that as long as you fit stuff that matches the manufacturers recommendations, then you should have no problem with your insurance company, but tell them anyway.
  8. My family sometimes just like to have a gale blowing in from the open windows, at those time I turn the climate control off. I've tried turning the family off instead, but that never works!
  9. I managed by having a rusty old car with big bumpers!
  10. Well done to mannyo in spotting the silly mistake. I will add "check boot is closed" to our checklist when our code misbehaves!
  11. Hi Ned, I work in IT. If something stops working for no good reason one of the first things we ask is, "what did we last change?" If we can't see a silly mistake we put things exactly back to how they were and test again, it would not be the first time that an innocuous change has unintended results! If there is no silly mistake then my next port of call would be to change everything back to what it was (with the VCDS), assuming that you remember everything that you changed.....
  12. Yes, they are great cars. When we got ours a couple of months ago I said to my wife, "we'll drive the small Nissan around town as it's more economical". Strange but 90% of the time I seem to forget and go out in the Superb instead. Also my kids have noticed that I am much happier to taxi them around, even in the very early hours of the morning, what a good dad I am (now).
  13. Quoting from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telford#Demography "Telford has a younger than average population, and a higher rate of teenage pregnancy than the national average....." All caused by you in your young man's nubile molls motor?!
  14. For a touch of class and distinction, Steel Grey is the sophisticated man's choice!
  15. Thanks andre. Within the data menu I think there is a name value that I can enter a string of characters for (not entirely sure as I am away from my car right now). What is that name value for? Thanks Sent via Tapatalk
  16. I have the S3 and an Elegance built early July 2012 and so it comes with Premium GSMIII installation It now gives me the choice of HFP and rsap connections but when I first got the phone it was Android 4.0.1 (or something pre 4.0.4) and I could only connect with HFP. I have had two updates to Android, both were for 4.0.4, but different builds/releases of 4.0.4. The first update did not include rsap but the second (build XXBLH3) gave me the rsap connection option. Both updates came via the Samsung app KIES, see http://www.samsung.c...ftware/KIES/JSP for windows/mac downloads. With the app running I connected the phone to my PC via USB and end of August (ish) it gave me the option to install the first upgrade to 4.0.4. I chose yes and it did the update. I tried to connect with rsap but had no luck. A few weeks later KIES said there was another update, again I said yes and the app updated my phone. Since then I have been able to connect with rsap and or HFP. I choose which. By default I now connect to the car using rsap, but can choose to connect just by HFP by selecting Handsfree rather than Premium on the MFD via phone/setings. The only different thing I have done on the phone is said 'yes' (with remember choice) when the phone asked whether to allow access to the SIM (which rsap requires). When I could only connect via HFP the Premium and Handsfree menu options were the same as each other but now there are some new menu options available under phone on the MFD when in Premium mode that were not there previously. They include a 'data' option that I have yet to figure out, if anyone know please tell me!
  17. Android phones can work using rSap, it depends on the version of Android that you have. I have a Samsung S3. When I first got it (a couple of months ago) rSap was not on it and I could only connect via BT/HFP and could do calls and stream music, access the phonebook etc. Last week there was an update to the version of Android and I now have rSap, allowing me to chose between connecting with HFP or rSap over BT. I choose which by selecting Premium or Handset on the MFD under the phone/setting menu option. When I choose Premium/rSAP I then choose to allow access to my SIM (the phone asks whether to allow or not) I then lose the internet functionality on my phone but am able to receive/read SMS on the Columbus and MFD and to send SMS via Columbus in addition to everything that I had using HFP, plus better signal strength. Prior to having rSap on my phone selecting Premium behaved exactly the same as the Handset option, in fact I wondered what was so premium about it! Now I get extra menu options, in addition to SMS related options. Some options I don't quite understand and will no doubt start a thread on it once I have had a longer look. I can find no reference to the extra menu options in the manual nor on the internet which is very frustrating! If you can update the OS, that may give you the ability to do rSap. If not consider looking at http://www.android-rsap.com/ , at your own risk. FYI, My car was built in June/July 2012 My phone's OS is Android 4.0.4. My initial OS update took it to 4.0.4 but did not include rSap. A couple of weeks later there was another update, it remained at 4.0.4 but now I have rSap. PS, never had email functionality on Columbus or MFD.
  18. Hi Mike, In what way do you find it so good? Do you notice improved performance and if so what in particular? I am lucky to have a Shell petrol station 2 minutes and a Tesco petrol station 5 minutes away from my home but I have been using the bog standard fuel so far, mainly because on my old (12+ years) car it seemed to perform worse with premium petrol so not felt the compulsion to put in the pricier flavour fuel. Thanks, Paul
  19. I have only had my car for a couple of months now but have found that I do have one major problem with it. Prior to owning the car my Saturday mornings used to be quite lazy. They consisted of getting up, a slow breakfast and an extended flick through the tv channels. Now, however, I am up earlier than I really ought to be, eating a quick breakfast, changing my clothes and then I'm out on the front driveway trying not to make too much noise for my neighbours! And this is all the fault of my nice, new, shiny Superb. It keeps on making me want to wash it! Even my mocking 13 year old son "you're washing the car again!?" came out to help this weekend when I decided to give it a polish and wax. What's it doing to my family!?! Clearly a fault with the car causing me to change my Saturday morning behaviour in this way? I never used to do it! Do you think I can get my behaviour fixed using the 5 year extended warranty, or will it take the cold dark winter mornings to fix me? P.S. Did I mention it was shiny inside and out?
  20. Sorry to hear what has happened to you, it must be very frustrating. Remember that if you end up buying another car because it comes in a colour that you like, then you may find that you have had to compromise on something else (price/features?). My hope is that when you see the other colours "in the flesh" that you find one that you like. I know that when I saw "Steel Grey" in the brochure I did not give it a second look. When I was in the dealership I saw a Superb on display and thought "Ooh, that's nice", it was, of course "Steel Grey" and it was what I ended up buying. My first choice had been Storm Blue, then I saw the Steel Grey and ordered that instead! For sure I agree, when spending £24k you don't want to start off with a mindset of not being happy with what you're getting, so lets hope that you see a colour that you really like and don't worry, you won't upset me if it turns out to be a colour other than Steel Grey
  21. I agree with Danny 57. If you look for the elements you will see them. Look further into the distance and you stop seeing them. When I first got the car I looked for them, saw them and thought that I was going to have a problem. Since then I only occasionaly notice them. In some lighting I notice them a bit more than at other times, but when I am driving I have never yet found them to be a distraction, day or night. Only had the car for about 8 weeks/1500 miles so yet to need the 'benefit' of the heated windscreen but it's good to know that it will be there when I need it. Paul
  22. I would expect the dealer to be able to give you a fairly accurate estimate for the delivery date, but as has already been mentioned the actual delivery date can change right up the week that it is built. What seems less acceptable is that the dealer did not advise you about the extra up front delay due to their quota limits at the time that you placed your order. That is something that they know when they take the order. Earlier in the year I placed an order for a Superb Elegance with some factory fitted options and the dealer told me straight away that delivery would be 6+ months due to them reaching their quota. I spoke with a different dealer and they quoted an estimated 13-15 weeks for delivery. In the end I got it within 8 weeks of placing the order! If I was you I would consider asking other dealerships for delivery estimates, and if they are earlier get a refund of your deposit and place a new order. Paul Sent via Tapatalk
  23. Hi, you will need to rip the cd on a computer in order to create mp3 or wma files. You can do this using Windows Media Player (assuming that you are using a windows pc) or some other software if you prefer. This will result in a folder containing your music that you can copy to an sd card. Put the sd card into the columbus and that will give you the ability to copy it onto the hdd. Consider the folder the folder names and structure first. I have a series of folders that have the band's or artist's name. Within each band's folder I have one or more folders that are named the same as the album that I am about to rip my cd into. In truth, as my sd card can store 32GB of data I have yet to copy it to the hdd. I find that the columbus can play from the sd card much sooner than the hdd when it is first turned on. 24. Just wanted to say that I have now taken delivery of my new car! The dealership (mentioned above) originaly quoted 12-14 weeks, but in the end I got it 7 weeks and 4 days from placing the order! Way better than the 6+ months that at one time I thought I was going to have to wait. Problem is that now I have to resist leaving work early to go and play with the car some more. For once I can't wait for my kids to ask for lifts here there and everywhere, the further the better. The car is a joy to drive, I just need to learn to relax and to stop looking at other road users with a "don't come near me" stare! Already one lesson learnt, don't let the wife talk whilst trying to use voice control. Works well when only one person is talking but if the other half starts talking part way through it's anyones guess as to who you will call, where you will navigate to or what music you'll end up listening to!
