There is TPI for that problem, dashboard firmware update.

Ah ok. Both times I thought I’d noticed it were after the car had installed app updates so I figured it was while it was doing things in the background.

I’ll look at getting it booked in to get looked at.

  2. Just noticed mention of “flickering console” on a post on the last page.

I must admit I thought I’d noticed my water temp gauge/fuel gauge flicker slightly dimmer a couple of times when driving at night but thought it was just me.

Is this actually an issue then? (SW version is 1941).

  3. I've just bought my Approved Used Octy vRS using Solutions PCP so as to get the added extras of 2 years warranty, 2 years roadside, 2 services & 2 MOTs.

I received paperwork from VWFS detailing the 2 services on a service plan but haven't received anything stating i have an extra 2nd year warranty, extra 2nd year roadside or the 2 MOTs. Can anyone else who has taken up the PCP deal with the extras confirm if they received anything from VWFS other than for the 2 services?

I'm just wanting to confirm if i should have had something and need to be contacting the dealer or VWFS or if you don't receive anything other than for the 2 services service plan?

How far away from the socket is your camera ? I have a 30cm cable and it is long enough to get to the camera just behind the mirror

It’s a Garmin Mini 2 behind the mirror and I tried it on the passenger side. I might try again to see if I can get it a bit nearer (I’ve not stuck it on the windscreen yet). But I’ve got some alternative options arriving today cable wise to try as well.

Temu. Aliexpress both do coiled cables, which is the easiest solution you might needed an adapter to pop on the end if necessary (£1-£2). See my post earlier.

I’m wanting it to be as invisible as possible so coiled cables are too visible. I’d rather have a slightly too long straight cable and coil the extra tightly behind the mirror out of the way.

  5. VAG Speedos haven't been linear for years. Every VAG i've had since a 2001 Polo GTi (followed by 2xMk1 Fabia vRSs, a Superb II, a Citigo, a Mk3 Fabia and this Mk4 Octy) They've all been physical dials previously and have usually change at the 80mph or 100mph mark though.

The only image I have to hand is from the Superb I’ve just got rid of for the Octy…….

The fact that it was a VAG-wide issue still doesn't excuse the problems people faced.  When someone pays £25,000+ for a new car and feels that they are Beta testers for badly implemented software, which is the centre of modern cars, that has multiple issues an apology, after the event, doesn't mean that much?  Reading through the forums the frustration experienced by people going back to dealers time after time seeking a fix and none being available due to the inordinate amount of time it took VAG to get a stable version released leads to a very poor customer experience.  It undoubtedly damages customer confidence and hurts brand reputation.

It's all pretty stable now and luckily I bought my Octavia last year so escaped the worst of it, although I had to actively get the software and firmware updated to get a stable system.  I love my Octavia but the damage to the Mk4 Ocvtavia reputation had already been done for many long-term Skoda customers.

I wasn't saying the fact it was a VAG wide issue excused the problems customers faced..... I was correcting your statement that "SKODA" had damaged customers trust by taking so long to remedy the issues when in fact it wasn't Skoda at all but VAG. In the same way it wasn't Cupra, Seat, VW or Audi taking too long to remedy the issues with the same Infotainment units in their vehicles around the world.

There's a hell of a lot more models than just the Skoda Octavia around the world that have had their reputations damaged by the whole issue.  ;)

Skoda now has a firmware update for the SOS / Telematics module which solves the issues and, it would seem, is no longer physically replacing the units.  I assume, originally, they hadn't formulated a fix so replacement was the only course of action available.  My module had the firmware updated and it went from crashing 8 out of 10 journeys to now being rock solid.

Agree with @Markeknows, now the software issues are sorted it's a great car.  Unfortunately, I think Skoda has damaged customers' trust and its reputation by initially releasing shoddy software and then taking a long time to sort it out.

Not a Skoda issue or a reason to be annoyed at them alone at all....... It's a VAG wide issue which has affected models across all the group's marques that use the same units and is why the CEO made a public apology. 😉

  8. One of the first vRSs i looked at the other month was a 21 plate with 30k miles..... The drivers scuff plate was pretty much totally gone. The state of the front of the car and the scuff plate made me think it had either done stupid miles and had been clocked or had been a company vehicle maybe in the construction industry or motorway mtce etc.... and the driver had been scraping their work boots in and out of the car.

Maybe though it's a problem with certain age vehicles or with scuff plates from a particular supplier/source?

  9. I have got a 2022 vRS and I assumed when it said cornering lights as standard it meant the old school fog lights that light up below 20mph when the indicator is on or when turning the wheel a lot... Also both coming on when in reverse. The only mention i can find of it in the settings in the car though is for "Dynamic Corning Lights" on/off which appear to work differently and with the matrix lights. I can't seem to find anything fully explaining what these new style dynamic cornering lights do and when they operate as they don't operate the same way as the old style ones did. Although i think they operate when going around sharp bends with the matrix LED lights switched on???

I've also not been able to ascertain if you enable the old style cornering lights via OBDEleven the new style dynamic cornering lights will still operate as they are designed to also?

Have you tried connecting with a cable in the Octavia?

What the car displays within CarPlay is determined by the software in the car infotainment system. It could be that some of the apps are no longer permitted (perhaps something like YouTube video) hence the Octavia doesn't show them whereas the older Fabia does.

If all else fails, try posting on the Apple support community pages - https://discussions.apple.com/welcome

You'll probably need to sign in with your Apple ID.

No I’ve not tried connecting via cable in the Octy as it just connected/connects wirelessly each time I get in the car.

I’ve a feeling I’m going to have to set up up as new to get it to connect via the cable though.

The apps in question are the two versions of the My Skoda app and the On The Way weather app

Have you checked in the carplay setting in your phone,  that's where you select what apps you want available.  There should be settings for each car.

Yep like I say it shows 3 less apps both on the HU screen in the Octy and in the CarPlay settings section for the Octy CarPlay connection on my phone.

  12. Ok so I have a question regarding Apple CarPlay that I can't seem to find an answer for anywhere online.

We have two cars with CarPlay - Our 2019 Fabia (CarPlay via cable) and our 2022 Octavia vRS (CarPlay via wireless). The issue I have found is that when I connect my phone to the Fabia via the cable I get more apps showing than I do when connecting my phone to the Octy wirelessly (24 apps on the Fabia and 21 apps on the Octy).  This is both on the HU screens in the cars and also when looking at the CarPlay settings for each car on the phone.

Does anyone know why I'm not getting the same apps showing for both cars on the same phone?  I would have thought if one was going to have fewer apps showing it might have been the Fabia with it being an older and lower in the range HU?   Or is it as simple as Wireless CarPlay gives less compatibility of apps compared to wired CarPlay?

D1,2, 3 etc or S1,2, 3 etc except if coasting then just D.

What engine / drivetrain of a vRS have you, and what age?

It’s a January 2022 petrol DSG and just displays D in the bottom left hand corner of the digital cockpit as far as I’ve noticed never D1, D2 etc…..

  14. Sort of related to this thread but having picked up my vRS today I’m trying to work out how you get the engaged gear to be displayed on the digital dash?

i just see a D in the bottom corner but no indication of what actual gear the car is in?

Every other DSG I’ve driven has said D1, D2, D3 etc…… somewhere in the dashboard so is it available in one of the options somewhere and I’m missing it?

  16. Picking my (new to me) car up on Tuesday. It was on 1941 when I checked on the day I put the deposit down so I'm not too fussed if it hasn't been updated to 1969.... When people mention OTA updates of the software is this something that only happens if you have the Skoda Connect thing? Or do all the cars have the ability to update OTA? (Mine is a MY22 vRS).

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question but it's the first car I've owned that has had anything like this as my current car is 14 years old so pre-clever updating technology.
