Not impressed with eco mode, from just outside Guildford to Chichester 36.6, I've got to back there again sometime during the week to deliver a AIO printer/scanner and fax to a family friend, this will be done in normal or sport.

I think it'll be better than eco mode.

    Cheers for that.

What does eco mode actually do to the car?  Is there something out there that explains what each mode changes on the car/engine?

  2. I notice that there is currently a split with the VAG companies' Approved Used benefits with Seat, Cupra and VW all now offering 2 years warranty and 2 years roadside assist with every Approved Used car but Audi and Skoda still only offering 1 year of each. (Although with Skoda when using PCP to buy the car you then get the second year warranty and roadside).

So looks like we're getting a bum deal when it come to buying approved used. 🙄

I had read quite a few of that fellas threads/posts and had noticed he hadn't posted in 2 years. Clearly he knew his stuff.  There's so many points of failure on these I had no idea where to start on it.

However unit will not even boot to the point where I can open the disc drive. (but I haven't even tested to check if it's empty yet 🤦‍♂️)

I'll have a good read tonight and get some DVD-RW's ordered. Thank god I ordered a writable external drive last week then! 😁

You need to use a CD-R for the firmware not a DVD.

If you post on that thread I’m sure one of the other guys who helped myself will help you out.

My unit had also got to the stage where it wasn’t booting at all but you have to use a particular set of buttons pressed together to get the unit to stop trying to boot and to update the firmware instead. (This is different to the buttons you can press together to reboot the unit manually). 👍🏼

It will depend on a few factors such as gradients, traffic density and flow on whether eco mode will make any discernable difference from normal mode. You must have some idea from your diesel dsg Superb whether the coasting function of eco mode makes any difference, but I think I have seen an equal number of claims for better consumption for either mode from different submitters with petrol cars.

What you will probably find is that the petrol engine consumption will be more sensitive to driving technique than the diesel so for instance, you will get less engine braking so a lot more traffic anticipation is required. Well that is what I found when I went from diesel to petrol.

My admittedly limited recent experience on peak time UK motorway with speed cameras is that a significant number of people will drive a bit below the indicated speed limit and adding in normal speedometer variation means that they are doing a true 65mph or less, which can be a bit of a pain for the less patient.

If you avoid the temptation to try and drive at the true speed limit and just 'go with the flow' and add a couple of minutes to your commute then you may find consumption close to 50mpg perhaps even better. Probably telling you how to suck eggs but the petrol car consumption is definitely more pedal sensitive.

None of my hire cars were sports models (by any stretch of the imagination) but I found I got ridiculously good consumption from UK normal (and to me, abnormally) close proximity driving using non aggressive driving with minimal time penalty incurred. Some people seemed to be driving with their foot constantly jumping from accelerator to brake while stuck at the same speed

I'm sure you will work it out for yourself and experimentation is half the fun of getting a new  and very different car.

I don’t have driving modes on the Superb as it’s a Superb II. That’s why I was asking as it’ll be the first car I’ve had that has driving modes so no idea what difference the eco mode makes when using it. 😉👍🏼

  5. I had this same issue at the end of last year and a reinstall of the firmware sorted it.

A fellow member supplied me with the file and I burnt it to a CD and installed.

If you search for the “Columbus Sales & Repair” thread you should get someone along to help you out.

(Bear in mind the creator of that thread is no longer a member but someone else should be able to help you once you post a reply on that thread).

  6. So on my steady runs to and from work along the motorway would the Eco mode make any difference/improvement to mpg?

My commute is around 25 miles each way with around 23 miles of it on the motorway and only 2 or less miles urban.  The amount of cameras on my section of motorway means I’m happy to toddle along on my commutes and leave the having fun and Sport mode to my days off. 😁

  7. Well after 10 years of owning the car the time has finally come to replace the Superb in the coming months.

With the car being on the old side now (13 years old now) I wondered what the market was like for them at the present time. Are people still interested in them these days or does it depend on condition etc.... Mine's a nice example having only done 90,000 miles and having a couple of options fitted but wondering how much of a pain it's going to be to sell if i decide any trade-in offer is silly low.

  8. Has there been anything said by VAG in regard what the projected support life is going to be for the current Infotainment system fitted in the likes of the current Octy, VWs, Seats & Cupras etc......

I ask as usually the support for HUs is commonly ended after around 10 years but with the new style unit having the only controls for things like climate control, De-misting, Driving Mode selection etc..... It would cause significant issues if the screen fails for whatever reason leaving the owner unable to clear the windscreen even. Currently if your HU fails all you lose is your radio, and possibly sat-nav and parking sensor imaging so not so much an issue and can be replaced with a 3rd party unit etc.....

You have to assume / hope that this new system will be supported for a longer period of time than has been before with it now being a more important / significant part of the car.

I'm quite a stocky guy and I find them very comfy. Especially if you have the heated seats and it's cold outside, I've found that I don't actually want to get out of the car..

I slept in my last one overnight when my dad was rushed into hospital and I wasn't allowed to stay, quiet comfortable but it's not designed for that.

I'm thinking more of how the bolsters and seat material stand up to regular use.

On a 300 mile journey, mainly motorways, eco mode driving like Miss Daisy, high 40's to the gallon. Worked out filling tank to tank, not off the computer. Short runs of about 5 to 10 miles a day, mid 30mpg.

My trips along the motorway to and from work are all nice and steady 60-70mph driving so I suspect i may be likely to get mid 40s mpg on average then..... Which isn't too bad if including the slight savings in fuel cost with petrol.

  11. Having recently been taking an interest in the Cupra Formentor i joined some other forums and Facebook groups. Cupra/Seat have just released v1969 software for the Infotainment system in their vehicles but i know they have had a lot of issues with it and the fact that absolutely everything is done via it  (with no physical buttons/dials for anything)  possibly means their system runs different software to that of the Skoda unit with its few controls that are still controlled from buttons under the unit in the Octy.

  12. Could any of you petrol vRS owners give some real world feedback on mpg when on steady motorway runs?

Looking at possibly getting a vRS and wondered what the petrol was like on motorway runs as of my 8,000 or so miles a year around 80-85% of it is steady 25 mile motorway runs to and from work.  My current CR140 Superb gets around 55mpg going to work and high 40s mpg coming back (I live around 400ft higher than my work location hence the difference in each direction).

If i use the mrs' 1.0TSi Fabia on a few runs to my work i get around 400 miles for the tank if that's any type of comparison?

  13. Looking to replace my Superb in the coming months. I had been looking at Cupra Formentors and thought i was going to get one but found out this last week that there are common issues with the leather creasing/pulling/folding on the base and bolsters even after a few months so have been put off the Cupra. I'm wondering what the front seats are like in the vRS longevity and wear & tear wise?

I'm looking at getting a 1-2 year old car and plan on keeping it for around 7-8 years when i plan to retire hence me asking.

Do the side bolsters stand up to everyday use etc.... and is the material used nice and hard wearing?  I do about 8,000 miles a year and they are mostly motorway miles on my commute so not gonna be piling on the miles or be getting in and out more than average etc....

    Cheers

This is more about the facelift in general than the Sportline in particular, but may nevertheless be of interest:

    https://www.skoda.co.uk/news/details/the-new-skoda-karoq-a-more-striking-look-with-greater-aerodynamics

I may have time to say more later.

Cheers for that. I'd seen that or something similar before but had another quick scan through but looks like I can only see mention of the digital dashboard where when looking at the Sportline section of that it says it comes with a 10.25" instrument cluster so would that be the better version with more viewing options available?

  15. Hi all,

First time visiting the Karoq section but long, long, long time member of 19 years having had two mk1 Fabia vRSs and currently a Superb II Elegance and a Fabia III Colour Edition. I'm thinking of replacing my Superb this year and the Karoq Sportline is one of my favoured options (and also one that SWMBO really likes too). I prefer the looks of the facelift model over the original Sportline but just wondered if i could get some answers to some questions about the facelift version?

    1. Is there anything on the facelift Sportline that became standard that the original pre-facelift Sportline doesn't have or only had as an option? (Is it just things like the remote foot operated boot and interior coloured door lighting etc...)

    2. Are there any issues with the panoramic sunroof on these? Are they prone to any issues etc.... (It'll be the first time having a panoramic sunroof rather than just an old school small sunroof previously on a couple of cars).

    3. I'm initially thinking of going for the 2WD 1.5TSi 150PS engine. How does it perform with this size car? Is the DSG better suited or is the manual fine? (My current Superb is a CR140 DSG so thinking they will be possibly feel similar performance wise?)

    4. Any known issues with the HU and Virtual Cockpit to know about? Does the facelift Sportline come with the better virtual dashboard or is that only an option?

    5. Are there any indicator adaptations possible like there are on various Seat, VW, Audi models whereby you can change how the indicators flash or scroll etc.....? And if so are these done in the car or are they done via OBDEleven etc....?

    6. Finally any other general things to look out for with the facelift Sportline?

Thanks again for any input/info you guys can provide.

  16. I've been busy with other things through December and only used the car a few times but it had gotten worse to the point where i had a 1 hour drive with the HU stuck in boot loop and then two 30 minute drives without it booting up either so had got to the point where it just didn't boot.

After speaking to another member they sent me an image for the firmware disc without it affecting the maps/media partitions so i burnt and installed it on Sunday and now have a working HU again.

however it doesn't look like he has anything listed at the moment

Thanks for taking the time to respond. That's a shame. I've managed to find another UK seller with good feedback so if i can't locate a copy of the firmware to burn myself, (I have one more option to try for a repository of the FW files) then i will go for the UK seller i've found.

The HU had a good day on Saturday booting up within a couple of minutes max the two times i used the car...... Then yesterday morning it was back to taking around 10 minutes to boot up but then last night and this morning it didn't manage to boot up at all and just kept boot looping for the full 30 minute drives. 😒

Sorry to ask but do you have the details of the seller as the link is no longer valid.... I've found a few but wanted to ideally go with one I know has been used OK by someone else.

Well, I can prepare such firmware over the weekend.

That would be very much appreciated.  The unit itself is one of Rustynuts' units I bought from him a few years ago. (Hence it being a late unit in a 2011 spec car) I'm assuming it's a standard version of firmware on it but I'm not sure if Rustynuts installed anything modified firmware though? (Can you tell if it's standard or a modded firmware?)

I'm planning on replacing the car next year so not having to try and source a map disc would be perfect.
