  1. If its failing, you could try a MAFAM - google for it and tell Ron that Bas sent you, lol. Cheaper, and since it's not a rover, he offered a money back return if it doesn't work. HTH Bas
  2. They could always tell the insurers to read the book first before they see the pic: Attack of the Killer Potatoes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  3. Glad the car part of this mess is all sorted now. Cheers Bas
  4. cute pics. This from the net: Energizer bunny arrested. Charged with battery.
  5. A lighter SMF is actually a good thing for performance :Lightening
  6. I researched the vRS for a while, lurked on Brisk, then joined and bought one. Skoda should thank Briskoda for at least one sale, lol
  7. Fitting a turbo is actually very straightforward if you are handy with a racket set. I'd look at Turbo dynamics - they do some solid beefed-up turbos that enjoy a good remapping....
  8. Thing is - the lighter they are - the less wasted power. There was a thread where the physics of lightened flywheels was calculated.... I have a helix and it's not really bad at all. Glad that you're happy.
  9. Fishy thing is - Why was the ECU opened up in the first place? AFAIK it is simply not necessary, and any delicate electronics can get damaged by static shock that only shows up later on in service. My ECU was remapped on a bench without being opened up- no sensor codes or any probs whatsoever.
  10. After taking two hours to make up my own, and finding out that the wallie in the shop gave me the wrong transistors, I got a mate to make this up. He did a far neater but larger effort. Should easily fit into a small project box that I have hanging about... Hope to do some testing soon. Car has started to run a lot stronger after a MAF clean with electronics cleaner, after a few days of no change...
  11. If you do a search on here, sure you'll find some VERY useful info :-)
  12. I got my CEL light (from having no EGR -only) mapped out - It is there to alert you to potential problems you know, lol No EGR=no probs...
  13. If it's around corners, may be a loose or worn dogbone mount. Really easy to change by yourself. Or loose console bolts/ trans bolts. All accessible from under the car quite easily. If not, you could try adjusting the gearshift linkage. There's a how to somewhere on here, or google for dieselgeek shifter - they lay out the procedure on their shifter kit install..... If all else fails, a proper professional exam might show up a worn syncro perhaps? HTH Bas
  14. Look up the map of helpful Brisk members with vagcom - hopefully you'll find someone local to you. Do a scan and hopefully this will shed some light. Also if you unplug the MAF and it runs better - then it's a dead MAF. Apparently they can fail gradually or suddenly. If unplugging the MAF gives you back a normal engine (with a weaker top-end) then it's deffo that that needs changing. You can run for a while with an unplugged MAF on a derv apparently. HTH Bas
  15. I'd take a good look at the engine and try to localise the noise - where is it coming from exactly. When you blip the throttle you get the EGR active - may be related to something hooked up to there perhaps? Good luck with that one Bas
  16. some more support that it may be a good idea to do this mod: I quote "Volkswagen issued a TSB, 2499-04, on the MAF. They are prone to oil vapors from the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PVC) system collecting on the MAF sensor." Volkswagen Passat Very Poor MPG
  17. that could be interpreted is sooo many ways Happy Birthday matey Bas
  18. eh? please explain - sounds interesting:)
  19. Thing is - there is a big difference between flashing a map sourced from wherever with a knock-off chinese bit of flashing hardware and really tweaking parameters and knowing what you are doing. The saying you pay peanuts and you get monkeys is a good one when it comes to remaps. Hope it all gets sorted out in the end, some things to chalk down as a learning experience. On the plus side, sure you will be happier with the new map. Do let us know how things work out. Cheers Bas
  20. @ apinner: perhaps this Golf would be more to your liking?
  21. seriously? someone I knew of put some on his balding patches - pooch licked it while he watched TV - in about3 weeks he started to grow hair again. (you were hoping that I would say summat else? )
  22. Try the two step-process: put on peanut butter get the pooch to lick it off
