  1. Abu Dhabi is a about 40mins by air. Go there every few months to visit mates. Tiff should try the Bahrain F1 circuit sometime.
  2. suggest you do it all at once and get the matching Eibach springs. Saves you going back in again and it's a combo that works extremely well. Get the bump stops cut down while you're at it (do a search - there are a few tips on that on here). Get some new ones and cut/glue them as needed and hand them ready to go in to your mechanic. HTH Bas
  3. clear light of day, feeling a bit better - returned the clutch switch, fitted the brake light one carefully - helps to see what is where. Also less fatigued this am, thank goodness. Used measuring block 6 on engine to see changes from depressing clutch and brakes. Pumped the brake 3-4 times and no more glowplug light. useful to have 5 working brake lights again..... Sorted.
  4. Count me out of your first flight - I have kids you know,,,,,
  5. That would explain the stuffed-up feeling and total confusion Will have to cut down, right after I give up cigarettes......
  6. My excuses are: I had siliconed the vagcom connector into the dash bit, was covering the pedals, kids were screaming and I have a headcold. Still - better than when I put in new 312mm pads back asswards and they squealed like nothing else for a week. My main positive amateur-mechanic achievement though has been fitting new flywheel, clutch, Peloquin diff (with correct shimming) all by myself. Luck of the draw I guess....
  7. Was admiring how clean the car was (for a change) from the rear. Very same evening drove home from work without any brake lights and flashing glowplug thingie. Bought the updated green brake light switch and had a fun time trying to fit it on top of the clutch.:thumbdwn: I've been told that I vary between stupid and brilliant, with no in between and usually the former The local skoda guys tried to give me a black one, but I went to VW and they had the pretty green one... Hope to have it in tmrw am, which is when my local MOT is due....
  8. same thing almost happened to me last night - glow plug symbol flashing. Drove home in busy crazy traffic wondering what it could be. Checked the brake lights this am - What brake lights!? Gonna pick up a pedal switch this am.....
  9. wenger's swiss army knife - sounds close to what it really should be called...
  10. Sorry - but you cannot do better than Richard Washbrook (oscarli.com). He visited here in Bahrain, and I had a few long discussions with him - he knows his stuff inside out and is simply the best IMHO. He used to change maps on a daily basis on his old Polo 1.9PD, constantly tweaking them. He was able to map Shifty's old car when others fell flat on their faces, and I tried his map, that from another well-known tuner and there is no comparison tbh.. If I'm not mistaken - Lummox (Ross) provides maps from him..... My 2p mate. Bas
  11. disconnecting the battery after a warm-up ride and letting the ECU re-learn how I like to drive (it forgets from time to time)
  12. Thanks again for all the info. Took a few tips from everyone above and came up with this fiddle: Double sided 3M tape used to fix the iPod dock to the top of the ashtray - line out from it into the Pioneer Aux socket. Sounds MUCH better than using the headphone jack and I remove the iPod when not in use (keys to work are kept in the ashtray so I have to lift out the iPod to open the ashtray). Since I constantly fiddle with the music, the iPod should be fine just using its internal battery. Stealing from locked cars here in Bahrain is rare so it doesn't worry me about the dock being in plain view.
  13. handprints caused by the fine dust sticking to where the paintwork was touched. Kinda like supersized fingerprints. Swirls are a total PITA - need to get it professionally polished one of these days. Running 15mm spacers front and 20's rear.
  14. This is what the car looked like after being sat after a day of blowing sand. Methinks a clean is in order. Deffo prefer snow to sand if it's gonna be bad weather. It was a Black Magic colour before.. Perhaps a quick dust off with some tissue paper?
  15. Andy2407 - thanks for the offer mate - it's nice people like you that make Brisk the comfy place to hang out it is Thanks to everyone for their advice I think I've come up with a neat solution - hope to take some pics and post soon... Cheers Bas
  16. This looks like it'll do the trick: In Phase iPod adapter for all Pioneer stereos - Pioneer iPod adapter from In Phase Now to figure how to get it out to Bahrain.....
  17. guess I just need to experiment - "uncapping" the volume limit and adjusting the signal limit upwards has given it more oomph. Leaving the iPod on the seat is not the greatest idea -slides around too much... Thanks for all the opinions - may just use the Aux plug for now.
  18. so no takatakataka then? (points to the one who can remember who coined that word....)
  19. Just wondered for those of you who use an iPod hooked up to the car stereo - do you just plug into an Aux input jack or is there a real advantage to say an IP-bus input cable? Also how do you mount your ipod to be able to control it? (or do you just plonk it on the passenger seat?) Interested in learning, thanks Bas
  20. Well it seems that many of the videos are not available on youtube any longer - too bad....
  21. picture is worth a thousand mate, that makes at least 4K up there. 'Nuff said.....
  22. :clapclap::yeahdude::bowdown::woohoo:
