  1. Ok to add further info to this. I changed over to 4 Denso spark plugs I had spare, initially it felt better, but then yesterday, same cold start struggle again. I've also tested the batter with a multi-meter. It got a reading of 12.2v from it. And lastly in my service history I found that the throttle body has been taken out and cleaned about 50k ago. Has anybody any suggestions?
  2. My vrs will struggle to start when cold. Even if left overnight the next morning will hesitate, try to fire up but not start. But when I start it up and give the accelerater a small small bit of pressure it'll fire up ok. It will also start every time when warm after that. It's just cold starts that it struggles. The plugs and oem coils were replaced about 8k miles ago. Car is currently 141k on the clock. Any ideas?
  3. Yeah running standard suspension alright. He assured me that they're 245 alright. Came off a mk4 Golf.
  4. Ok just found out theyre ET30. So: 18x8, 245-40-18, ET30 RS6 reps, will they fit?
  5. Sorry should've said in op that I knew they were reps, being 5x100 and all. I'm only hoping to stick them on while I refurb my spiders, hopefully in black. And they're coming in very cheap too, considering they've got Continental tyres on them too : ) I've annoyed him again asking him to go for another look. WIll post up if he finds the offset
  6. Thanks Paul. I know that indeed. Just I'm blue in the face from asking the guy but in his own words: "Aw man I've looked and I can't find it"..........
  7. Thanks Paul. Seller doesnt know the offset (other than they're reps and fit his MK4 Golf fine). So he's an hour and half drive away just to a trial fitting : ( Pity too as they have Continental Sport tyres all round.
  8. Thanks for the reply. Dont know offset off hand. So even on standard suspension all round there'll be issues?
  9. Theres a chance I can pick up a set cheap and they'd be perfect while I refurb my own. They're 5x100, wrapped in 245-40-18. Dont have the offset handy, but nearly sure theyre 18x8. So are they a straight fit? Thanks : ) Col
  10. sorry bouncy was the wrong description, what I meant was smoother, not as harsh as it was before : )
  11. Cheers folks, got sorted (forgot to update ) Friend who's an indy mechanic retapped so no issues at all, and all for only €15. I'm surprised how different the ride feels though, it's way more bouncy than before. Just goes to show how nackered my rear shocks were!
  12. All was going great.......... Until replacing the second shock, the two bolts up top, seems the last bit of thread was damaged, so now cant get the bolt back up there, there's resistance from the start. Am I in trouble?
  13. Ahhhh I see what I was doing wrong (thanks Michael for help through text!). Numpty mistake. Got a 17 spanner (that's not a swan neck so can be done without) on top and held the flat bit properly, now top nut off and mount looks in decent shape. Thanks folks.
  14. Ya I was clamping on the vice grips and getting a socket on the top, but even then it's still spinning. I don't mind damaging the old shock at this stage, just want the fc.uker off!!!!! Haven't got a access to a vice though : (
  15. Right so I've got the shock off, but how are you supposed to stop the shock from spinning when taking off the top nut from the mount? Have tried a couple of ways so far, but every way I've tried the shock spins with it? What's best way to sop that?
  16. Cheers Michael, might give you a shout so : ) Did you replace the top mounts as you thought they were knackered, or just do it while you where there? Was on to Skoda there, they are saying that Skoda do both a standard gas shock, and a "economical" gas shock, but he couldn't tell the difference between the two, except for price of them. €75 each for standard, €50 each for economical shocks. Top mounts are €25 each, and I think he said the bump stops were 15 each, all ex-VAT. I think the bump stops are perished, so I'll replace them, but not sure if I need to do the top mounts, or should I just do them while I'm there anyway?
  17. Thanks Raf. What about reusing the topmounts, or rubber covers? Is it suggested you replace shock, top mounts and covers if only shock is leaking?
  18. Just failed my NCT (Irish version of the MOT) on a leaking rear shock. The ride is fine, I don't find any difference at all. I've changed shocks/coilovers on couple cars before, but not on a VRS. Also, not sure do I just need to replace the shocks, or top mounts etc?
  19. What are folk cleaning their white VRS seats with? Mine is pretty marked, mostly small stains like liquid spillages etc (no funny jokes now ; ) So what are people using to clean them? Anything specific? I don't want to do them damage by using something I shouldn't. (Oh, and the cheaper the better too). Cheers, Col.
  20. Same issue for me only recently, here's a thread I posted: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/255313-mk1-octavia-vrs-clutch-change-and-possibly-dmf/ There's some good info on that : )
  21. I have this issue also. But only since I had my new G60 flywheel + VR6 clutch kit fitted. It only sometimes happens, just a small grinding noise on startup. So if it's nothing to worry about that's good.
  22. Great stuff. I've just gotten mine fitted yesterday, and other than a small grinding noise on startup, it's fine. Maybe tempted for a remap in spring now : )
  23. Well I ordered and got the G60/VR6 kit fitted, and it's back home again : ) Don't notice any more noise at idle, and the pedal is sooooo light compared to before. One other thing I noticed was a slight grind on startup, no sure what that is. But otherwise seems to drive fine, although I've not given it much right foot yet. Is there a bedding-in period for the new clutch?
  24. What is the main difference between the VR6 clutch and standard? Can the standard LUK clutch take a remap? What power are you currently running? As I may remap in the future myself, but that'll be once I've gotten my 180bhp back that I've been missing : ( I don't mind the noise at idle at all, this is the quietest car I've owned in a long time!!! I'm 99% sure mine is standard. I've gotta say I've never found the pedal too bad, but then again when I've driven other cars I've nearly put my left foot through the floor sometimes! Whoops, sore dose, lucky you didn't do proper damage.
  25. Just read this all Bodge, it's a good read. It seems the only way to go for a clutch/smf change, which I have to do right now. Have you had any problems since then?
