  1. A review of this on Amazon says this cable doesn't support Android Auto - does yours?
  2. I collected my Edition on May 29th but, prior to this, the dealer phoned to say the PhoneBox (wireless charger and signal booster) feature would not be installed so he said Skoda are offering me a refund of £280 which I accepted.
  3. My Edition came with the Canton surround sound system but I don't like it as it's harsh, sibilant and rough in the upper-mid frequencies. I'm wondering if replacing the amp with a better one would cure the problem but is the amp removable? (it's under the passenger seat). Has anyone ever looked at upgrading the sound system on their Karoq? Where would I start? Would it have been easier to have not ordered the car with Canton in the first place? I don't want anything to change on the Columbus system as I really like this unit. Is anyone else with the Columbus head unit hearing upper-frequency distortion on strings and girls voices like I am?
  4. I took my Karoq Edition into the dealer yesterday and their technician indicated that there could be a fault with the Columbus so he said he would be speaking to Skoda for advice. He said the software was already up to date on the head unit. I expect to hear back from him this week but I'm not holding my breath.
  5. The Karoq has both an immobiliser AND an alarm - does this mean it has an alarm chirp that can be activated? http://www.skoda.co.uk/SiteCollectionDocuments/downloads/brochures/karoq_pricing_specs.pdf
  6. I know, apologies, but it does spoil my enjoyment of my new 30 Grand car.
  7. Dealer didn't do any of the mods I asked him to do - he said "his chief technician" was off for the day. Why am I not surprised.
  8. Thanks Panther_uk. I'll post later how I get on. I wonder if the Canton can be modified with the VCDS? It sounds harsh to me and over trebley.
  9. Can anyone please advise the procedures for activating the gauge needle sweep on startup and the audible beeps when locking/unlocking the car? I'm taking my Karoq Edition in to the dealer tomorrow to try and fix the problem with radio stations going blank, and I thought, while he was updating the Columbus software, I'd ask him to activate the above two features which I really miss from my 2012 Fabia. Is there also a way to disable the Start/Stop function? Thanks!
  10. I tried the Driver setting and it is better than the other profiles, especially with the Surround on zero. It also seems to shut off that dreaded centre dashboard speaker(s). But I find that while the Classical sound preset has the least amount of strings/high vocals distortion it is still a little too trebly. Are you using the "Individual" EQ profile so that the equalizer works? I find if I select this rather than a fixed preset then the distortion is back even with the treble all the way to the left. I leave the subwoofer on full.
  11. In hindsight all I wanted was an amp and a subwoofer to bolster up the stock system. But who would I get to install this stuff for me? And could I have connected this stuff to the 9.2" head unit without any hassle?
  12. My wife leaves her key in the house as I am the only driver. But thanks for the tip. I'll see what the dealer reset does.
  13. Thanks for the comments - and yes, you're right, I am a tryer. I'm taking the car to the dealers on Monday because all the DAB and FM radio presets have all disappeared. Hopefully a reset will sort everything out (not holding my breath). I actually did listen to this Karoq Canton sound system in the showroom 6 months ago but with all the windows down and people talking around tables it's always hard to turn it up really loud. Last week I tried the Beats Audio system in a Seat Arona but that was struggling with the bass when I turned it up. This Canton system can take all the bass I can throw at it but it's the harsh, forward sound with a little high frequency overload distortion (?) and excessive treble that really grates on me. Treble is turned all the way off. I might listen to other showroom cars over the next few months although many people complain about the Dynaudio sound upgrade in the VW Tiguan so I'm not looking forward to it. My ears are fine (for a 64 year old) and I have my TV through a Yamaha amp with subwoofer and Aiwa speakers and it sounds a million times better than the Canton. The next car I buy I will hire for a week to really appraise the sound before committing myself.....
  14. I have the Canton sound system but the speakers sound harsh and overbright with slight distortion on strings and vocals. I emailed Canton but they were useless and said it's a Skoda issue. My Skoda dealer says they've never heard of this problem. Has anyone with this Canton system looked into what might be causing the poor sound? Is it the speakers, the crossovers, the amp, or all of them? The only part of the system I like is the subwoofer and the head unit. The rest can be replaced with better components if it fixes the problem. But will it? And who can do this for me?
  15. Got into my Karoq Edition today and on my 9.2" Columbus Display all the DAB Radio Presets were blank, as were half of the FM ones. Has anyone else had this problem. Taking the vehicle to my local Skoda dealer on Monday to reset/upgrade the software (under warranty of course). With a bit of luck it might fix the harsh overbright Canton sound too.
  16. Update - I placed a heavy rubber mousemat over the centre top-dashboard speaker grill and covered this with a cut-to-fit piece of rubber-backed black carpet. Now the sound is less harsh and has better stereo separation. I also set the sound preset to Classical as this has much less distortion than the other settings (including Individual). Subwoofer on max, Fader on default. Much better.
  17. I found a quick solution - I placed a heavy rubber mousemat over the centre top-dashboard speaker grill and now the sound is less harsh and has better stereo separation.
  18. Has anyone come up with a way to either disconnect or disable this centre dashboard speaker, or to block the sound by using some sort of a cover? I find this centre mono speaker narrows the stereo image and adds midrange honkiness to the sound so it does need to go. LOL. Thanks!
  19. The worst thing about my Edition is the Canton upgrade I paid for. There is high frequency distortion which is impossible to eradicate, very sibilant. I cannot tolerate it.
  20. Hmm, this happens to me also when reversing into the garage. So maybe it engages with my DSG Edition too. I could try to disengage it by pressing the button before reversing but then I don't want it to STAY disengaged when I drive out the next day. Decisions!
  21. Lucky you - I guess it all depends on exactly where the dealer fits the number plate.
  22. On my DSG Edition (in which this photo was taken) I have the Auto Hold always activated so that when I brake on hills it doesn't roll until I press on the accellerator to move off. Never any need to use the handbrake. I do always deactivate the Stop/Start system though.
