  1. If you switch over to manual mode, will the engine take the higher gear without labouring? Another thing to try is backing off the accelerator very slightly: this can trigger the change.

Hope it all goes well. Be interested to know if the underside bonnet insulation makes much difference to the sound level in the car, particularly on the motorway. Please keep updating!
  3. As previous posters have said, you should be able to trade them in to at least get something for the old ones. But you might get more for them via ebay, who knows?
  4. Sudden loss of power in those circumstances is always dangerous. I remember when the mass airflow sensor went in a previous TDI: it was at its most dangerous at roundabouts, because getting into motion took so long. Once it was going, it was just sluggish, so not too bad, but getting going.... ouch.
  5. The 1.8 TSI is probably the least popular engine choice, from what I can make out, because it's relatively thirsty. Your low mileage means that this would not be too bad in running costs, and if you plan to keep it 10 years, then whatever you buy is going to be relatively worthless when you want to sell. On the other hand, you may be able to get a good price for a used version. The Elegance spec is the most popular in the UK. If you really want steel wheels, you could always sell the alloys.
  6. It's very much a personal choice. One further point is that you are unlikely to get much money back on resale when specifying a sun-roof.
  7. Good point re the road tax. I was primarily comparing the two DSGs when making my decision.
  8. I have gone through a similar decision process. My annual mileage is about 12,000, and I like to keep my cars 8 to 9 years, but even with this, diesel engines no longer makes sense as an option for me, especially since they need timing belt changes. I don't know specifically for the Yeti, but for our other car, a VW, they have reduced the recommended TDI timing belt change to every 80,000 miles or every 4 years, whichever comes first. It's a reasonably specialist job and for the price of it, you can buy a great deal of petrol. The 1.2 TSI has a chain rather than belt, and it should last the life of the engine providing you do not skimp on your oil changes - every year despite your low mileage. Another factor to consider is that whilst the consumption of the Greenline is good, it's nothing like as good as the official Euro figures indicate. Try searching the internet for real life fuel consumption.
  9. The Audi A1 1.4 TSI DSG does. I wasn't too impressed with the combination when I drove it a few weeks ago, because it operates in Drive, and only restarts when you touch the accelerator, so I found myself actively trying to keep the engine going. Oddly enough, the engine keeps running when the handbrake is on and Neutral selected... Personally, stop/start would work better for me if it only operated when the handbrake was put on, so I could actively tell the car that I was happy for the engine to cut. Edit: On reflection, I think the engine restarts when the brake pedal is released. It still felt not very well resolved compared to stop-start on the manual gearbox.

    Sluggish TDI140

Good chance one of the system sensors is not working properly. I've had something similar with a TDI (not Yeti) where the mass airflow sensor went. No lights showed on the dash, it just went very slowly.

    DRL's & MFD

Thanks very much... For me, that's another reason to think of doing it, especially for driving along roads with intermittent bright light then deep shade. I could always turn on side lights, but then I think that turns off the DRLs, so reducing visibility to other drivers.

Does enabling the rear lights like this also turn on the dashboard illumination, please?

    Parking Sensors

Just to supplement what has already been said, both front and rear parking sensors turn off automatically once you are going faster than about 10 mph in the forward direction.
  14. You really need someone familiar with the Aus-spec Yeti to answer. In the UK, only the base E spec does not have front fog lights, but since every single Yeti I have seen has the round lights inboard of the headlights, my guess would be that just the bulbs and switch would be missing. The same round lights also hold the daytime running lights if fitted. In the UK, the off-road button is only fitted as standard to the top spec Elegance 4x4.
  15. My wife's car is a Passat 170 TDI DSG. When driving on the motorway, I've noticed it uses slightly less fuel when running in manual 6th, so I tend to switch to manual and cruise when up to speed, dropping back to semi-auto when gear-changing is needed. When my Yeti DSG arrives, I'll be interested to see if the same thing happens. Has anyone else found this?
  16. I drove both the 1.2 (manual and DSG) and 1.4 TSI when deciding which to go for. Much to my surprise, the 1.2 manual felt livelier than the 1.4, though of course this is a subjective view. In the end, I settled on the 1.2 DSG.
