  1. ECU is the engine controller, it's located in the engine bay. Comfort electronics controller can be placed in the interior of the car, but maybe it's a water leakage in one of the fuse boxes. One located in the engine bay, next to the battery box. The other is on the left side of the dashboard, when you open the left front door, then it's cover can be removed. Check the fuses, look for white/green dirt on them or on the wire contacts.
  2. Hi! What model year is yours? Mine is 2005 made and I can smell the washer fluid.
  3. Hi! I also have a knocking noise when I start reversing. It took several months and pointless garage visits to figure out by myself (the idea inspired by Fabia owners discussing the air ventillation of their cars) that every time I switch to reverse AND start rolling backwards, the air ventillation system automatically blocks the way of incoming fresh air because in this situation it wouldn't be fresh air but exhaust fume! This blocking probably happens by closing a flap and this makes a knocking noise. You'll hear this knocking noise only once while You're staying in reverse as this flap keeps the way of incoming air blocked. When You switch to forward gear again AND start rolling forwards, the flap opens without any noise. After this when You start rolling backwards again You'll hear a knocking noise. I also believed that it comes from the brakes but no. Just try it the following way: Switch the ventillation system to inner circulation mode and after this switch to reverse and set off slowly. If You won't hear any knocking noise, then it is the same situation as mine.
  4. Left foot rest in RH cars? I MUST see it!!! Got any picture?
  5. I'm sorry about this silly question but I feel I must put it! It's related to one of the few things that cannot be the same on cars with right side fitted steering wheel and left side fitted ones. When I saw a photo recently of a car from the UK I noticed that the foot rest is installed on the right side of the floor, just behind the right front wheel. OK, it's the mirror of the "continental" cars, but it's next to the accelerator, not the clutch pedal! The accelerator gives permanent job to the right foot, so it can't have too much rest except when cruise control is activated. Don't You feel uncomfortable on long journeys, having no place to rest Your left foot?
  6. Especially that If you buy 1.6 FSI instead of 1.6 MPI 8V, you'll pay 1 million HUF (about GBP 2500 or EU 3700) more for 10 more BHPs and a few Nm of torque but You must use the 98 octane fuel which is about EUR 1,2 or GBP 0,83 per litre but our earnings are very far from Western European or UK salaries for the same job. What's more, You can buy Octy2 with 1.4 16V 80BHP engine too!
  7. coming home/leaving home function can be activated on cars without the headlight switch having the proper position?
  8. Well, all I could read in 2.0 FSI tests was about the high fuel consumption of that engine. My computer shows fuel consumption 0.3 litre less than I can calculate by the simple full refill method. This seems to be constant. Lummox says right, we spent our holiday in Italy last year and this year too. Last year my car needed 7.4 litre/100 km (computer said 7.1) and this year 7.1 (computer said 6.8). This year we take a child with us, that means more weight in passengers and bags too. We used climate when It was needed at both trips.
  9. Hey guys! Don't You live in Hungary? We're just in the same situation both in politics (another banker based government) and public roads' "quality". We pay more than 1 euro for one litre of fuel. The fuel costs 40-45% percent, all the other sum is tax. We pay tax on tax! The fuel's price is taxed and this higher sum is taxed again by VAT! That's nice thing, eh? One part of the tax goes to the "road fund" to maintenance the public roads. That's what they say... Besides we pay to the local authorities 4-5 euro per each 100 kg of the weight of the vehicle like annual "weight tax"! It means 13 x 4-5 euro for Octavia II. It's also turned to repairing local roads... Ah, today I could hardly avoid a large hole in the INNER lane, where You can go at green light by 40 mph and no way You can see this 5-7 cm (2 inches) deep and 70 cm (about 2-3 feet) wide "lake" where the upper layer of asphalt is missing. 3 years ago we were in Croatia on holiday. They're building highways through high mountains, buliding long tunnels and viaducts and each year they're finishing several tens of kilometers. After a war. We've been on small secondary roads, the surface was cracked by tanks but still in better shape than some of the roads here. Here, where the main part of the country is flat land, and building of tunnels unneeded, there's no way you can travel from border to border on highway. We have all the highways under construction but none of them is finished! And all the highways are leading to Budapest, where You must drive through the city since the bypass highway system is in less than half-ready state for more than 15 years now...
  10. If You have Maxi-DOT (a full size, black background LCD displaying graphics and text in white), You have the option choosing the information You want it to display. 1. MF display: this shows trip1 and trip2 counters (in km or miles - it also can be set), mileage, distance you can drive with current level of fuel, speed warning, etc. This was the default on mine and I think on other cars too. The other options are: - displaying radio information ONLY, all the other function are unavailable - error code entries (All you can see is "No entry" if there's no entry) - ooops, I can't remember, I always use the MF mode... You can choose between these mode in the following way: - press and keep pressing the "down" button of rocker swith of wiper stalk for more than 1 second and now You can see the menu. - You can navigate through the menu by pressing "up" or "down" - You must select "MF display" what's on top of list by pressing the lone swith on the bottom side of wiper stalk Now, that You selected the MF display mode, you can use the rocker swith to display different informations: actual fuel consumption, trip counter, fule consumption of the trip, trip time, miles to go with fuel in tank, etc. If You want to set the speed exceeding warning, you must navigate to its menu by pressing "up" or "down". You'll see "Exceeding speed limit --- mph/h" or something like this. Now You must accelerate to the speed You want to set as limit and at that moment it happens, You must press the button on the bottom of wiper stalk and the current speed will be displayed and set as limit. From now on every time when You exceed this speed You'll hear a "ding" and the warning will be displayed. The reason I do not use this function is that the warning message reamins on the display and no other information can be seen until I slow down below the limit. The other reason is that I keep a little dangerous setting speed limit while driving since I must stare at the speedometer instead of the road if I want to set it precisely. A far less dangerous way to get speed limit exceeding warning is setting the "Winter tyre" option, since here You can set the speed limit using the "up" and "down" switch by 10 km/h increments. It can be more suitable if You don't change the limit very often.
  11. STREAM radio is manufactured by Visteon, a company that separated from Ford. nothing to do with Skoda, or even with VW. I really can't understand, what takes weeks to get a replacement STREAM. Mine did not eject the CD. Local dealer ordered the STREAM, next day it was installed in 20 minutes.
  12. Organist wrote: That's what the dealer said to us when we picked up our Octavia 2. We had asked him to set up the anti-hijacking and drive-off locking etc, and also to enable both rear fog lights (I hate just one working) but he said that the alarm activation and de-activation 'beep' was no longer available. Did You succeed activating both rear fog lights???? Is there a light bulb in the inactive place?
  13. Uncle bulgaria wrote:My wheels catch also, but only on full left lock, sounds like the wheel arch liner. My dealer has raised this with Skoda, to see if there is a mod due. Will let you know if I get an answer. What is the size of Your wheels?
  14. Very interesting this speedo thing. Mine is scaled in km-s and linear all the way from 0 to 240. Cannot understand why it's non linear in mph units, since less range must be covered so there's more space for numbers. Can U link a picture of Your speedo?
  15. Right side hook is standard on Elegance but missing from Ambiente level and below.
  16. Maybe the problem is related to the direct sunshine sensor located on the middle part of the top of dashboard, separating the left and right side part of the black "grille". A hair dryer - applied not too close to the sensor avoiding heat damage of dashboard - might be a good test tool? It's just an idea, never tried it, especially having not of that sensor in one-zone, semi-automatic climate system.
  17. I also heard this noise. Try to open the fuel refilling cap and it stops immediately. This gurglnig noise is caused by the pressure circumstances of the fuel system. When You open the cap, the pressure equalizes to normal air pressure. In my opinion.
  18. I can also hear small knocking noise wen crossing bumps - having tens of thousands here in Hungary... I had the suspension checked but nothing was found. Everything was in place, tightly. Maybe, the boot lid is the source of the noises? Anyway, they're coming from the direction of rear seats and the lid, not from below the suspension.
  19. OK, but I can also hear a strange knocking noise when i start reversing. No suspension problems, I had it checked out in the garage. Gearbox, flywheel or brake pads stuck to the disc? So I'd like to know, what kind of noise caused by a faulty flywheel? Is there a chassis number range available of the cars involved?
  20. I'm also interested in a digital version of OII user manual. Can You help me too?
