  1. 22 quid for 5Litres at polished bliss, who do free delivery (sorry, just noticed you are in Dublin). I also picked up wolf decon gel as a fallout remover, was £10 for a litre. No idea how it sits in the grand scheme but it was cheap(ish) and says on the bottle that you can let it dry without adverse effects which is handy in the warmer months. Absolutely stinks though like most fallout removers, though I hear korrosol smells better than most if that bothers you. You'd need to get spray bottles for each unless you have some, which will certainly need chem proof for tardis and possibly the fallout remover. autosmart sell through franchises, so if you get on their site you should be able to track down your local rep, there looked to be a couple in Eire from the map. As Chris says Ebay is an option but very much buyer beware. Trix wasnt the worst thing in the world, actually did quite a good job on my folks unloved wheels, but you're much better off with separates. Even ignoring the performance, the thing they dont tell you with Trix is that its two liquids that dont mix in the same bottle, so you have to shake it often to keep applying both products.
  2. I'm happy that the quality of the paragon cloth is high enough, the question i should have asked is whether microfibres in general will fray and or disintegrate if cut into sections. I sort of expect they will, but was curious whether it had been tried before. I'll have a look at that gb when I have a minute, but I really do have to limit detailing purchases to essentials at the moment. The good "normal" ones i have are 30/70 and 270gsm, so whilst maybe not ideal, not horrific. cheers for the input all the same.
  3. Those ragmasters aren't cheap! Honestly my detailing budget is somewhat under pressure for the next little while hence the question about cutting up one of the paragon drying towels into 4 buffing cloths. The alternative being a few more if the paragon towels when I buy some more gym towels.
  4. received this morning in good order. Top man.
  5. just out of curiosity any reason you need a spray rather than paste/liquid? spray abyss has been mentioned a few times and is what my car was wearing over the winter. Gloss levels were very good, but being a sealant i thought it lacked a little something on race blue, warmth maybe. Anyway I did 3 months + without a qd/spray sealant top up, with regular and enthusiastic use of pre wash as my commute is part rural and it gets mucky. A topup with BSD, project 32 or whatever the qd+ de jour is should get you the durability you are after whilst looking pretty good too. For another option you could have a read over at polished bliss. They were big fans of the werkstatt acrylic kit, which was a liquid AIO base, a sprayable & layerable sealant coat for use every little while and a qd type for gloss as and when. The werkstatt stuff has gone for the moment at least but replaced with the carlack stuff at polished bliss. have a read here http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/blog/2014/11/introducing-the-carlack-range/ and here if you are so inclined http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/blog/2013/02/werkstat-acrylic-demo-video/
  6. hi chaps I was thinking of sacrificing a drying towel, the towel from from sparkly's last GB in fact to get a couple more plush buffing cloths. Will the edges fall apart or will they hold together ok? Next question and a bit of a random one, I appear to have picked up a few bits of debris on a few of my drying towels and cloths. They get washed separatly and any really rank cheap cloths go straight in the bin. I can only assume that they must have blown on whilst line drying as they dont touch the floor and the debris was too big to come off the car, even before a wash. Do you guys ever comb your towels somehow or inspect for debris?
  7. very kind words thanks gents. It did have me a little underwhelmed at first, in the fading light of sunday eve and the dingy start on monday I didnt think it looked any better than recently applied abyss or when topped up with nattys blue. But then the sun came out nearly fell off the bike coming bank into the cul de sac. I'm definitely of the opinion race blue is a wax colour, and it looks like VI is a good one. thanks to the chaps that gave it a recommend. It would also be remiss of me to say that Im only maintaining and building on the top job ChrisRs did for me last year. Without meeting Chris I'd be decidedly richer. And would have more free time. But a dull car. Ill get some more reading done about applying the waxes that need just a touch more finesse before I apply next time, thanks for the tips Ben.
  8. 1st post and its a rant about rubbish tyres, I think we might just get on welcome to the forum
  9. bit of a misnomer I as didnt actually manage a full detail as a busy weekend meant I had to do things a few hours at a time. So first foam and 2mb wash with g3 followed by tar removal with Autoglym intensive tar remover ( I really should get some tardis or similar or decant this stuff into a spray bottle) Next iron removal with wolfs decon gel, followed by claying. I fancied trying proper clay rather than the mit, as I'd never done it before and as I didnt have time to properly polish the full car and wanted to reduce the risk of marring. So autobrite clay used with AB berry blast at clay lube strength to do most of the car before life got in the way. Next day after errand running, another quick prewash & 2bm, finished off the claying and applied AB wax off, which funnily enough did what it said on the tin (bottle). out with the das6pro, orange pad from ste's gb and sonax 04/06. Only needed cut for a few areas that needed another hit from last year, side of roof, top of boot and spoiler, and the lip underneath the boot. The rest of the car got a once over with prima amigo to prep the paint and maybe add a little gloss. Just enough time left of sunday for the exciting bit, my first coat of vanilla ice. The smell was amazing, so pleasant to work with. I'd had a little chat with the bouncer over on DW and he'd warned to apply very thinly and wipe off in 1-3 minutes, which I did using one of the red apps from samuirs gb last year. quick question for the experts, the applicator felt very dry and only really felt like it was gliding when almost certainly overloaded and therefore over applied. I used a little water and then pad conditioner as lube but this seemed to dry out very quickly, any tips for an easy win? I'll maybe try a terry/my applicator next time. Ran out of light after the first coat... (also found a pram wheel lodged in my tire that the little angels had left in my cul de sac). Next day after a visit to the local tyre shop to get the summers on followed by a cheeky 20 mile bike ride on my brothers new pushbike I got back to it. Qd'd down using bouncers done and dusted. I have no idea how it works as a qd but it again smells great, like sherbet. Not something i'd feel comfortable leaving about if i had kids it smells that edible. Another coat of VI followed. Now either my tired limbs and/or eagerness to finish kicked in as I didnt manage to universally maintain as thin a coat this time around. Still easy enough to buff, just another pass or two with the mf needed. If im honest it could do with a quick qd after buffing just to pick up any remaining wax dust and areas i didnt quite catch, and the tires, wheels, exhaust and glass still need finishing off - but again life got in the way. second question for the experts, how many cloths would one expect to go through when buffing an octavia sized car? anyway time for the best of a bad bunch of pics as it was far too bright for my camera phone to handle.
  10. thanks chaps, I had a good look over it and only looked a little dusty so out with the qd and frequent change of cloths. The white MFs I happened to pickup from autobrite really came in useful as i could see what was coming off or not. I never even thought about just getting the hose out, proper wood for trees moment.
  11. cheeky bit of natty blue paste on top of a few month old coat of abyss (roof) or beasleys plasma coat (bonnet)
  12. hi all gave the motor a bit of a detail yesterday but only managed to get one coat of wax down before the light went. Had to drive about 4 miles round trip to get a puncture repaired in the dry, so the question is assuming i shouldnt just whack another coat down should I qd off before the wax, or do i need a full wash? cheers
  13. looking very nice buddy! the last pics looks like your motor having a cheeky little look around the corner.
  14. I was just about to start ranting about the rubbish yooof music, and how bad dance music is in general, but then you reminded me about delerium which I quite liked. Seems I also have a soft spot for the sort of crap that soundtracks the Kevin n Perry, film which I blame squarely on spending my early drink fueled formative years in the late 90's. Guitars all day now though. (well indie)
  15. Ill have a box please, depending on the expiry date i may have two, can you let me know please. thanks Simon
  16. Hi All I have an order pending with hot car parts for a B12 kit for my octavia. they have asked me to confirm the strut size 55 or 50 and the kerb weight for each axle. Where can i find this info? Car is a 2008 pre facelift 2.0 tfsi vrs sedan Cheers Simon
  17. they certainly look interesting use the 04/06 or use a polish more appropriate for hand polishing?
  18. title says it all really. Will be detailing the motor in the next few weeks and fancy reducing the faint scratches inside the handle wells and anywhere else I cant get to with a DA. What should I be using? I have one or two of the german applicators which seem quite firm and I have a sonax 04/06. Worth picking up anything else with my current order?
  19. I cant honestly recall whether I've heard the exact term or not, and maybe not a term i would tend towards, but IMO in the context it worked perfectly to describe his issue. Nothing wrong with a cheeky bit of wordplay. And well, if you dont understand something, well, google it - something I've had to do plenty since chancing across this subforum. (SWMBO had me puzzled at first, I assumed it was the name of a member)
  20. Not AFAIK. I was just replying to the "I dare someone not to like it" line in the post I quoted. You ask enough people whether they like something and whatever it is eventually someone will say no.
  21. Get enough enthusiasts in a the same place and someone won't like something or will prefer something else, its just the way it goes, and in my eyes good to have so many opinions offered. At the end of the day as long as you are happy that's all that matters, and by the look of the photo you should be delighted.
  22. Some people really are bar stewards. Car's looking good though buddy.
