Fabia 1.2 TSi Spark Plug change advice
forum won't let me edit that post to continue. Have those bits broken off the HT leads and I need a new set of leads or do they just insert back into the rubber HT lead inserts and fit back on the new plug? I'm guessing these plugs haven't been changed since 23/05/2016 where an invoice from one of the previous owners shows them being charged for (at a Ford dealer).

Fabia 1.2 TSi Spark Plug change advice
I bought the Sealey VS5293 HT lead removal tool and have to say it was pretty much useless. It's almost impossible to get the 'tooth' to hold against the metal HT lead shroud as the lead rotates when you're trying to engage the tool. I've managed to remove all 4 HT leads but these bits are left attached to 3 out of the 4 plugs; Uploading Attachment...

Noisy suspension
The thing that surprises me (if it's ARB links, which I agree seems most likely) is the car passed an MOT on 13/09/25 at 82,154mls and I'm now on 83,053mls. The garage is usually quite fair but stringent.

Noisy suspension
Thanks for your reply John. I have had the car on axle stands and checked underneath. I couldn't see any visual clues to suggest the ARB links might be the problem; the dust covers are not split. Maybe I'll take the off side link off on Monday (I have no drive, so have to work at my mum's 8 miles away) and check for play in the joints. To check the lower arm balljoint, I put a block of wood under the tyre and levered the tyre upwards; there was no movement. I've checked the coil springs and they are intact. I've not checked the strut top mounts. The problem with something like knocking noises is if you don't have the experience, it's hard to know where to look, whereas for a garage this is an every day occurrence.

Noisy suspension
When driving straight on local roads at 20-30mph, when going over certain road imperfections, I'm hearing a clonking/thumping noise from the front, off-side I would say, only noticed in the last month or so. The car has done 83,000 miles. New off-side lower arm fitted in 2023 before I bought it. Can anyone help?

Suspension Noise
When driving straight on local roads at 20-30mph over certain road imperfections, I'm hearing a clonking noise from the front, front off-side I would say, I only noticed it in the last month or so. The car has done 83,000 miles. New off-side lower arm fitted in 2023 before I bought it. Today, I put the car on axle stands, and checked; 1. Track rod end ball-joint dust covers - well compressed but no visible cuts. 2. Steering rack gaiters - no visible cuts. 3. Lower arm ball-joint dust covers - no visible cuts. I put a block of wood under the tyre and levered upwards - no movement on the ball-joint. 4. Coil springs - both intact. 5. Grabbed the wheels at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock and attempted to rock the wheel - no discernible movement. 6. Grabbed the wheels at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock and attempted to rock the wheel from side to side - with the steering lock off this just showed free movement of the wheel and steering gear. With the steering lock on I could feel and hear some movement but maybe this is just normal? The car passed an MOT on 13th September and I have covered less than 1,000 miles since. The only other thing worth mentioning is a small leak on the off-side CV joint gaiter just where the narrow inboard end fits to the driveshaft rod. If this was the culprit though, I'd expect to hear noises when turning the wheel sharply? Anyone any ideas?

Reset Service Indicator - 2012 Fabia 1.2 SE
Ok, I know there's loads of these threads already but none of the suggestions worked for me. I'd guess VAG group have been changing the process for different models and different dashboards. Mine is the basic dash with the small green digital display. I got this from this video, and it worked on my 2012 Fabia. https://www.youtube.com/@maximusvr46 You can watch the video if you like but it's very simple; Ignition off. Hold 0.0 button down whilst switching the ignition on. Keep holding the 0.0 button down for 8 secs (that's timed from the video). Release the 0.0 button and immediately press the button to the left (stacked pages diagram). That's it, but if you press the stacked pages button a few times, you should see the mileage to next service has changed to 9,400. Turn the ignition off and back on to confirm SERVICE has disappeared from the display. Some comments suggest that the above only worked when the Hazard Warning lights were switched on. Before watching this video, I tried holding down the 0.0 button only, without pressing the stacked pages button and that didn't work. I also tried holding down both buttons for 10 secs and that didn't work, so it's the process of pressing/releasing both buttons as above that makes it work.

CBZA oil capacity
Thanks for this. Answers my recent post. I reckon I drained more than might be considered normal, as I jacked up the driver's side quite high before draining the oil. Never heard of a service fill level and a dry fill level before, but considering the above it would easily answer why my oil level is only half way up the dipstick.

Oil capacity - Fabia 1.2 TSi 105
Can anyone confirm (or otherwise) the accuracy of the oil capacity listed in the owners handbook (dated 2011) stated as 3.6 litres for the 77kw engine? I carried out an oil change today with a 4L can of Castrol Edge and the engine took the whole lot (obviously, I started checking the level from 3.5L before the rest went in) and the level on the dipstick is only half way between MIN and MAX.

Kuhmo Ecsta HS52 Anyone tried these? They outperformed both the Ziex 310 and Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance in a 2024 ADAC test (3rd of 16)... The Kumho Ecsta HS52 achieves a good rating for driving safety. On dry roads, the Kumho Ecsta HS52 offers the driver both good steering feedback and confident behavior at the limit. It also scores points with its short braking distance. On wet roads, the Kumho Ecsta HS52 impresses with both braking distance measurements and wet handling. It offers good grip and can always be driven safely and easily over the course. However, its aquaplaning behavior is rated as only satisfactory. and in a 2024 Autobild test (Joint 4th (with the Goodyear) of 20).

Fabia TSi SE Tyres
The car came with Barums on the front. Even these two mixed tyres give slighty better feel than the matched Barums. Plan is for the current front tyres to go on the back (yeah, yeah I know, always put your best tyres on the back).

Fabia TSi SE Tyres
Need to replace a pair. I've been thinking about Falken Ziex ZE310's since I bought the car but have since found out there's a ZE320 out that is better all round . Then today I checked the Falken site and they're not doing the ZE320 in 195x55x15. Any recommendations for a mid-range tyre that would be better (more recent model maybe) than the ZE310? Any Tyre Tests (I've looked at Tyre Reviews 2025 Summer Tyre Test). I put together a list inc some Premium tyres just for comparison; Just for comparison Conti £109.67 + Fitting Goodyear Eff Grip £105.29 + Fitting Maybe Falken ZE310 £82.79 + Fitting Maxxis HP5 £67.12 + Fitting Nexen N Fera SU4 £71.40 + Fitting Prices from Mytyre My priority is Steering feedback (find it quite poor on my Fabia (Conti on one side, Evergreen on the other (on the car when bought))).

1.2 HTP New Battery Time - Recommendations?
Chris, I used to go down to Ruislip to do a stock check many years ago, when I worked for Lex. Think we used to stay at a Village Hotel down there.

1.2 HTP New Battery Time - Recommendations?
Petroleum jelly (Vaseline) is the old school recommendation. I used this when I took mine out for a recharge a month ago. Have you removed/refitted a battery before from a Fabia (the 4 year old one that's in it maybe)?

1.2 HTP New Battery Time - Recommendations?
Seems quite a short lifespan. My 1.2TSi is still on it's original battery after 12 years* and the one on my Clio ll lasted 14 years (turned out to be a Yuasa) . My mileage and exposure conditions pretty similar to yours. * Watch it expire this winter after I've said that.

Rear drums - what's gone wrong
Local garage (does my MOT's) sourced them from TPS for me. They're 84p + VAT = £12.10. VW dealer expected me to drive down to pay and go back again to collect when in stock; got the impression they weren't too keen to help out. They're surprisingly small;

Pagid vs Brembo vs Bosch brake discs and pads
I've had the front pads (they were fitted under previous ownership) out twice and have to say they seem a bit loose in the caliper. The first time I took them out, the outer pad in the off-side caliper was jammed and I had to free it off and regrease (Ceratec). Unfortunately, I didn't clock the make as I wasn't aware of this "bit loose" problem.

Similar prices on ebay unless ordering from Latvia with spurious delivery dates.

Rear drums - what's gone wrong
Local VW dealer quoted me £1.01 each for 6N0 609 589 glide pieces (£12.12 for a set). Seems a bit steep. Autodoc not so cheap for the TRW kit at £85.80. Mister Auto was £77. My local Motor factor quoted £93.75 which would be slightly cheaper than Autodoc when their £8+ carriage is added.
