Milltek and Optimax programme

Featured Replies

After a weekend of ludicrously well paid extra work, I am treating myself to a Milltek catback system and the optimax prog. for my APR module. The boys at Awesome in warrington wil do the work in novemebr when the exhaust comes in.

Can't wait!!!!!!! :):):):)

Huck, For the uninformed pls could you tell what the Optimax programme is all about - I presume it is more than filling the tank with Shell's finest.

Also, are ther any power / torque gains to be had from the Milltek exhaust. Thanks, Steve.

sorry about that, i'll explain -

the APR chip system that i have in my car is unique in that it's modular. ie. in addition to the obvious chipped mode, other modes can be added too.

the way the system works is that you can change modes via the cruise control stalk - if CC has not been installed, then APR can retrofit it as they did with me . you hold down the 'set' button at the end of the CC stalk and, after a few secs, the check engine light flashes once then repeats. this is standard mode. hold it down longer and it flashes twice then repeats the cycle a few times and this is chipped mode, optimised for 95RON unleaded. thats as far as my car goes at present.

however, the optimax programme has been optimised for the higher octane rating of the fuel and is claimed to add another 15 bhp to the car's performance - this is achieved by holding down the button, till the CEL flashes 3 times.

other modes include a valet mode which doesnt allow the car to go more than 40000revs!!

with regard to the milltek, i expect to see only 3-5bhp more. i would get much bigger gains if i went for the hi-flow sports cat as well ( around 15bhp)but i'm happy for now with the catback system ie, keeping the standard cat.

im getting it really to have a wee bit of a more purposeful burble to the exhaust note!

My plans to get the APR chip fitted have hit a slight hitch. My company isn't giving out a bonus this Christmas.  I was hoping to have it done sometime in January...guess I'll have to wait a little longer.

With APR you can use Optimax on the standard APR setting and get around 50% of the Optimax boost but, you can't use 95RON uleaded on the Optimax setting as it would damage the engine (I think).

How about 97RON super-unleaded.........which setting can you use this on? Something may be you can ask the Awesome guys Huck?

I must admit that the RS doesn't sound particularly powerful and fitting a cat back system would do the trick. However, the sports cat and down-pipe option would liberate a bit more power.

I wonder what sort of results are expected from having the sports cat and then the stock system onwards. Anyone got any ideas?

The Miltek rear box doesn't look very "MaxPower Muppet crew" which is good and probably make the RS sound a bit more "meaty" 8).

Ah well, another item on the "to do/wish list".

Cheers.

Adrian.

Huck -thanks for the info. Is the main advantage over the Jabba conversion that you can switch it back to std mode when it goes in for a service? How much is the APR conversion? (Jabba is

i would say that the main advantages are:

-switchable

-cruise control if not already present

-addition of extra modules

iirc, the price was in the high 700's region. i'm extremely happy with it.

the milltek *may* have to wait as i've just bought a whole load of a-v equipment for my house.

blame ian......

Steve,

The APR chip can be had in a single program mode aswell ie no fitting of cruise to enable switching and a single program for around 449+vat and Labour (1 hour).

This would prevent you switching and thus always be in whichever program you selected, ie performance 95 or optimax.

If you have cruise already then thats a saving otherwise it's about 175+1hour fitting, you can then have an extra program(s) and use the cruise to switch, again the basic chip is 449+vat, which would give you the stock mode program and then a choice of either the 98ron(optimax pgm) or the 95ron performance program. Or as per the pricing you could get more.

Re running optimax pgm of 97ron fuel: I asked and since I now have 95perf and 98 pgms was told not to bother and run on 95perf, only to use 98 pgm for 98+fuel.

re The main advantage of APR?

For me to one reason was that I was getting cruise retro'd, after that it was the switching modes for lending/servicing or my partner.

One small point with the APR system is you do get free upgrades as they release new versions of the programs. Now a little bird told me that the new programs are a bit impressive  More officially in January when they have finished tests.

Also that the Skoda's design is proving to be a bit of a winner on the airflow, aparantly we pull in alot more air than a golf/audi or seat. So we getting a little more bang than 207bhp, and I guess thats for any chip/remap stated figures.

well what can i say, "may" was the operative word!!

have just returned from Awesome gti in warrington with my milltek catback and the 98 or optimax program added on to my APR chip.

1st impressions of the exhaust: subtle but quite purposeful, looks lovely and should sound a little better as it wears in, so i'm told.

optimax program:

blinkin' flip mrs. miggins!!!!!!! :D:D  :D

can [b:4553ddb716]easily[/b:4553ddb716] tell the difference between that and '95RON' mode especially at about 70-85mph. the car veritably flies now and i thought it was fast before. havent had time to take it for an extended run but it was money well spent imho.

one very happy chappy :D:D

Huck,

Told you that optimax pgm was different, even on my short motorway jaunt...Next mod is a big red light that is triggered past 70.

Hi Huck,

Top Man!

Have you got an power/torque plots to show?

Sounds excellent!

I'm really p*ssed-off now about my company not giving out a bonus!

If I get too desparate I might have to sell some shares.

Cheers.

no curves to show, i'm afraid but the car is cor blimey rapid now!

slight problem with the exhaust as Karl had predicted in that it keeps knocking against the cut-out even on mild bumps in the road, must get it sorted.

the pull in 5th now is awesome, god i love it! :D:D:D

as predicted, the exhaust note has definitely become meatier recently.

had my first opportunity to listen to it from outside the car as it was at horners for a new coil, and sounded pretty damn nice as the engineer took it for a spin. nothing raucous, just purposeful.

I took a look around Halfords myself at the weekend, couldnt see the strap anywhere.

however a wide drivebelt will do exactly the same job, they have some 30 mm wide ones , just use one of these drill some holes in it to match the holes on the underside of the rear bumper.

attach it to lie between the exhaust and the bumper/ cut out secure with screws located on underside of bumper about 8 inches apart.

This part of the ehaust doesnt get hot enough to cause any probs.
