AVG Antivirus users. Free v7.5 ends the 31st May - Remember to update to v8

Featured Replies

I got free McAfee with my computer which is now about to expire - do I pay for that again or scrap it and get one of these free ones? (which I'm tempted to do!) if so, which is better? I've heard reasonably good things about both AVG and avast

Never tried avast, but it has some staunch supporters so I guess it's good.

Just remember you should uninstall McAfee before installing a new AV programme, and run the removal tool MCPR as well:

How to uninstall or reinstall supported McAfee consumer products using the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR.exe)

Hi,

I have just been reading an article in Computeractive that says you need to uninstall version 7.5 before installing v8.0.

Anybody had any problems not doing this b4 installing v8.0

If the new interface is not to peoples liking i also use anti virus by Avira. I find i easy to use. Get it here: Avira AntiVir Personal Edition 8.1 - Computeractive

Please note i dont use two anti virus programs on the one computer.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Cheers

I've Installed version 8.....It uninstalls 7.5 then installs 8 automaticly

My version 8 uninstalled version 7:5 near the end of the process.

The AVG symbol no longer appears on the bottom right of screen, its up in

top left, but I guess this is right?

Like the new feature with green ticks next to 'googled' results. :)

Ahh so thats why mine stopped working..lol.

Uninstalled and downloaded V8, works a treat.

Yup, I've upgraded too without problems.

But... it seems as if AVG has forgot to add a "disable" function? I can't find one? And I'm pretty sure there was one in the 7.5 version.

Not that you should disable an AV programme, but sometimes it is necessary.
