A useful reminder. SPT is as good as a lot of mods members have done - and at a tiny fraction of the price.

when i had my 106 me and my brother made a cold feed inductiaon kit for the car using some 100mm alu flexy-duct, gaffer tape,a pair of tights for a filter, zip ties and one of those things for drain pipes that is cone shaped(i think it goes at the top so that water and the like can get in but birds and leaf's can't).

it was absolutely marvelous, sounded quality, thunderous even but only on full throttle, the rest of the time it sounded standard.

are there any risks to the engine? can it be done just as well without an induction kit?

Not sure I had it on the Octy for about 8 months over the winter and no problems, there has never been any water ingress into the airbox as I checked it regular. Unless you try any rally style drives through fords then you should be ok.

I presume by the second part of your question you mean without fitting a performance airfilter? If so then yeah should be fine just use the paper replacement from the dealer or Halfords.
