Hi guys. I've been viewing the forum for months without having to ask you guys anything, as i've found the answer in most of the threads. I'm a newbie to the forums. I moved from London to the home of Skoda Czech Rep, some 6 months ago. I've bought a little Fav, and it's been great up until this week! I have had total power loss! everything had stopped working. I replaced the alternator and charged the battery. Great for two days, then same again! Anyone got any ideas?:confused:

Did you replace the alternator control box when you replaced the alternator?

It seems to be that, or a new alternator that's FUBAR, or a heavy current drain with the engine off.

Hi Ken. Thanks for your rapid resonse. Forgive me for my lack of knowledge. What is it and were is it? I have only replaced the alternator. I have only driven the car about 100 miles in two days. I've never had anything i'm awere of running when the engine is off???

F8cked Up Beyond All Recognition, and the control box and voltage regulator are different names for the same thing yes.

Oh ok. Parts are really easy to get here. There are are hundreds of skodas everywere! Can it be anything else? If not i'll go and buy one today.

Those 3 are the usual suspects. Beyond them, you need an auto electrician you have a language in common with.

Thanks Ken. I speak English and Czech so i'll try this Voltage regulator first and see were it gets me. Then if all else fails, consult the local garage.

I thought you might; I didn't want to presume though, because I have "get by on a package hol" level in several languages, but doubt I could say "my car has a heavy battery drain with the ignition off" in any of them!

Have you checked the earth connection? Give it a clean - might be rusty.

Well Thanks guys for your ideas. I've had a weekend of head scratching and tantrums! I bought a new voltage regulator to go with new battery and alternator. In the morning the car would not run without the battery connected after start up????? So I re-ground the earth to the body:thumbdwn: still the same. Then went into the dash to check the ignition feed :thumbdwn: and fuse box, still the same. Then found a 15amp fuse hidden in the dash for something which had blown. Replaced it. Put the dash back together along with the clocks ect, and replaced the indicator relay cos i had a new spare one lying around. By 3pm the car was running great :confused: so today i've bought her to work some 50miles away from house and she's been fine touch wood and all the electricals in the car seem to have new life????? So in a nut shell I have no idea why she's started to suddely work. I must of disturbed the problem somewere for it to remedy it's self???????? Or she's like a typical woman and just throwing a temper tantrum. I'll keep you posted if the promblem continues.

The 15A fuse must be doing something!

Also, if you've got access to a volt or multimeter, you could check for any signs of a current drain, because my experience says that there was either a static drain on the bettery engine off, or the alternator wasn't charging!

Actually, did the charge light behave normally before the weekend?

When I got the car, the battery light used to come on, then as soon as the car was revved it switched off. It's gone back to behaving it's self after being on all the time before the weekend.

What your thoughts then Ken?

That suggests that we were very much on the right lines with the alternator and/or regulator theories.

Two week update as promised.. Every thing seems to be order....Still miffed on what happened, but happy she's behaving herself. And with a new fan motor.
