Need VRS advice

Featured Replies

I'm going to look at a 54 plate Fabia VRS tomorrow so looking for advice on what I should be checking.

54 Plate

DPB paint

23500 miles

MOT Feb 09

Apart from the usual second hand car things what is there that is specific to the fabia that I should look out for. Recalls/known faults etc

Cheers

Looking forward to speaking to you all about a few mods once I get my hands on one, not necessarily this one of course.

Alan

If you want to know if there were any recalls and if they have been carried out. Call Skoda UK Customer services and ask them, You will need either the REG or the chasis number to hand.

Make sure there is no knocking, as that could indicate a few things, suspension wise.

No EML on, and if it has any known mods (Remap etc)

Serive history, Last cambelt etc...that kinda thing, as its 60k or 3 years (IIRC)

There are loads of other things im sure people will be able to tell you.

cheers for the advice so far, as far as the suspension knocking is concerned what is the best way to replicate the noise?

Try find an uneven road surface, and that kinda thing.

Its mainly the Anti roll bar bushes/bars (Common on non vrs but there is always one!)

And the console bushes have a tendancy of splitting!

Sorry for the newbie question but what are console bushes?

Regarding the remap, in theory you should be able to tell by seeing whether the power goes all the way to the red line - in which case it will be remapped.

Also, cosmetic wise look out for bubbling alloys.

Leaky rear doors!!!

ah well went and had a good look over it adn I'm well impressed with the car but not this example.

Drivers side sill had a V shaped dent in it probably around where the rear jacking point must be and there were scratches all down the same side under the door trim strip. The sales guy is going to speak to the manager and see what if anything they will do.

I would have bought it if it wasn't for that.

Never mind I'll just keep looking

there are enough mint ones about to be picky:thumbup:

Rear door seals as mentioned above, see if the CD in the player makes the sound like a woodpecker when it reads it. Had this issue in my car, still worked but annoying as hell! Also make sure the driver side seat is not loose. Hope i am not too late!

The cambelt is 60k or 4 years iirc??

Yea, just look out for knocking suspension, leaky doors etc.

Appart from that, great little car.

was well impressed with it as a driver, not a squeak, rattle or knock. Performance is great. Not quite up to my r32 but I was well impressed. Pity it was damaged.

I know there are plenty out there but living up in the far north of Scotland I have to travel far to see anything
