With recent letters between Skoda UK and myself about my water leak problem.

They have stated in their latest letter..............

"Please be advised that all vehicles are designed to withstand a maximum power capacity and the vehicles structure's has been designed to safelty handle this power. It must be acknowledged that you have greatly increased the power of your engine to a level which the chassis and bodywork are not engineered to endure."

I'm sure Skoda have sold 2nd hand remapped cars. Mmmmmmmmmm

I shall wait for mine to fall apart then.....

Anyone want to buy a shower cap.

Also stated in the letter.........

"I can advise that goodwill gestures are discretionary and awarded following concideration of a customer's loyalty to our retailer network. Once a vehicle's warranty has expired, any issues are fully and carefully concidered on a case by case basis."

I've spent just under £800 at Skoda in less than 2 years.

whats your original complaint?

Oh, water was getting in between the strut top or something wasnt it?

now that they've stated that, you can surely ask them what the 'safe' power limit is for the chassis?!

they cant just throw out statements like "to a level which the chassis and bodywork are not engineered to endure".

i want numbers!! without numbers that statement is worthless.

they must have tested the chassis when developing the car.......

i can appreciate what they are saying, due to the monocoque twisting etc under higher torques, but you have to back these statements up with numbers.

So Skoda recon that a few BHP more and the car is unstable??????

I will post up the 2 letters from Skoda UK. They say loads but dont explain anything.

see now I have that problem with water in the cabin, I have to park on level ground and between two mates cars ot the front of my block so it is not as bad. skoda didnt do anything really just blasted the car wi a jet washer and said the car was fine.

this unstable crap is B0ll0ks IMO.

anything to get out of sorting a fault on the car.

Sounds like total ****** to me. Let's be brutally frank about this, if the engine was really powerful enough to stretch the chassis due to a remap etc., it would rip itself off the engine mountings and the whole drivetrain would try to escape through the radiator grill the first time you tried to boot it from a standstill. And that's only if the tyres were still in one piece.

I don't profess to be either an engineer or a mechanic, but I do have a slight grasp of physics and logic. Honest.

I'm pretty sure the 1.8t180, 1.9TDi130, and 2.0TDi140 weren't offered back in 1998, so are Skoda UK saying that these cars are pushing the limits of what the shell will physically handle? Actually, since it's torque that twists things, are they also claiming that a remapped 1.8T has more torque than the cited diesels?

Whilst reading the service manual on the octy (trying to find out how to do a particular job ) it was interesting to note the number of modifications to the bodyshell that have been made for the VRS ,including seam welding for the top of the b pillar ,rear part of the sill,rear wheelarch,and the back edge of the rear door opening . and an extra plate in the rear wheelarch and strengthened bumper mounts .There is also the two diagonal braces in the boot just behind the rear seat .Also the brace from the front suspension turret to the bulkhead is different on the vrs and 4x4.

As you mentioned, Skoda indeed sell "remapped" cars.

I looked at 2 in a dealer in Dumfries, complete with full warranty etc..

cannot believe that there is not at the very least a 10% safety margin built in to the chasis, is this play with your life. This is surely why all those mods on the chasis have taken place?

After all the letters with Skoda I found out I had a crap remap and my car was producing less power than standard, might bring this one to light again.

:gay: what about all the police octys, they are all remapped to some degree,

sounds like a crock of ****e to me lol

that or our octys wont make old age lol lol but least they will be more fun ............ just for a shorted time lol :thumbup:

although im sure that at 140+i can here some air gettin in somewhere? lol but i thought i cant really go to skoda with that one lol

This is very interesting. How much difference does this make?
