Chipping done at skoda dealership?

Featured Replies

Hello All.

I took my fabia vrs into Als Lock Skoda dealership in Little Downham the other day for its 30K service. When i was there i asked about optional extras and about improvements that could be made, and the manager informed me that they could chip the car..? I had searched threads before and only found one link that suggested that skoda dont approve of any chipping or remapping. They said it was a chip produced by "Steinbower" (German - not sure on spelling) which could be fitted for £425 by them. The manager himself said everytime he bought one he would fit this as its a quick chip swap that takes no time at all.

So...Has anyone else heard of this chip company? Or been offerd the same deal by a dealership?

Thanks.

Dj

There is a thread on here somewhere that i hve read before about a Skoda dealership in Scotland that remaps your car even from new:eek:

Some dealers will do it, but I bet they aren't telling Skoda UK.

Bottom line is if they (Skoda UK) find it, and if they want to be awkward, your warranty will be invalid.

they don't think much to my mods either,i no longer have a warrenty on my se:(

Mine is still under warrenty untill sept, but he still offered me this option. Plus, the manager does it to his own from brand new. He made reference also to Jabba and that he'd serviced cars which they'd modified. He quoted Hp of approx 162bhp, which is considered a 'friendly' or generic map on this site i think. This is a full skoda dealership so they must speak for Skoda UK..?

Thanks for the feedback.

Benfeild Skoda at Newcastle Offered me the same deal when they replaced my engine under warranty for my fabia vrs back in march !!! they only qouted me £200.00 and said it'll get it running 175bhp

Wings Skoda of Peterborough are agents for Superchips and they chip cars from new. They're not that far from ALS Autos either, only about half hour drive.

Just been offered a job at a VW/Audi main dealer and service manager said that they (and VW) are looking into offering remaps to customers from new....

Times a changing me thinks

West End will get your car chipped if you want it, they have had many done in the past.

i wish they'd had mine done before i got it.

I know a dealer that sells uprated cars from brandnew and not mentioned, Just when you buy the car do you want the 130 or 155 model

The localish provider does the job in their workshop on delivery from SK

I'd still put money on it that they don't.

I'm not suggesting you shouldn't take them up on their offer by the way - and if you have any problems I'm sure they will back you up. You just need to go into this with your eyes open.

Lol you sure of that? They've never said anything to me, however when I went in to ask about warrenty and re-trimming my interior seats the sales guy did tell me that I had no side airbags

About 6 hours later they went off when I was forced off the road by a red Escort, I think that was the first thing that ran through my head after it happened  Of course, after the initial thought of "Have I been shot?" :P

Its interesting that ALS are recommending chipping, I thought they were very much against any mods :)

Maybe I won't have to put mine back to standard for the next service...

I've been in a Steinbauer demo car (if you saw it, you wouldn't miss it!). It's a similar experience to the Superchips - not a huge boost in power (+25bhp), but a huge dollop of extra push at about 2000rpm which feels extremely impressive but I would be concerned about my clutch with the very sudden way the extra oomph comes in.

I wonder if the insurers would look at it differently if it's a 'factory option' like cruise control/ Xenons etc.

I don't think they are recommending chipping, but as everywhere is doing it, why not? Steinbauer seem very strong in East Anglia - dealers in Kings Lynn, Norwich and Ely.

Sounds like a good option, some dealers use third parties to chip their cars before selling

A chip tuning upgrade has been an official SEAT dealer-fit option for at least 8 years apparently. First offered on TDI 100 Alhambras would you believe.
