Vrs Mpg

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Having had my VRS for about a month my fuel economy is worse than my Octavia SLX TDI was. Is this to be expected. Oh and I drive like a granny.

I have also included my excel sheet (it may be of use to some of you) also included in this sheet is a tab showing how to achieve maximum acceleration.

nice spread shett

if you want an on line version check my sig

PS do you mind if i nick your template

I guess you've checked your tyre pressures right? :D

My Vrs feels like it is loosening up the more miles I do! Up to 10k now, and about 6mpg better than 5k miles ago.

I got 56.8 mpg on a run from Bristol to Manchester & back this week (178 miles each way), 3 up with luggage. Didn't really do over 80 on m'way and only a few hard launches. I even had loads of fuel left from a full tankful!

I've had it into the 60's, but its tricky to maintain when it's such a fun car to drive!

I'm not surprised by your figures. My vRS has averaged 45.50mpg over 2163 miles.

Feel free to use as you like, that's why I posted it and not just the numbers.

I actually run with 10% extra in the tyres to help with the economy.

I have read somewhere that this is a common trick with the hypermiling brigade.

every tank of fuel i put through my 06 fabia vrs averages out at least 55 to 57 mpg. thats driving it on a bit to. drove it like a nun on a 50 mile journey once and trip was reading 81.7. only thing was took me half the day to do it!!!!

I average about 28mpg in mine :(

i got slightly over 500 miles from £55 of fuel at £1.30/L motorway driving, averaging 58mph and it saying i was averaging 54mpg

hi,

i don't think 42mpg over the first 1000 miles of ownership is too bad, especially as this is a "true" mpg rather than the computer telling lies ;) , i expect

this will improve as you get used to the car. what sort of roads is this over,

m'way/in town etc, aircon on/off etc?

what is easy to see from your spreadsheet is the rapid increase in the price of diesel

cheers matt.

Just to start the 'discussion' again; I purchased/installed a PD160 intake last month and have noticed a significant improvement in mpg. I have gone from averaging 47 to 52 (actual, not trip computer!) mpg. However, during this time the weather has also improved so I am using wipers and lights less so im not entirely sure how great an effect the 160 has had!

The type of driving is 2 x 4 mile journeys and 1 x 8 mile jourey a day through town during the week and about 80 miles at the weekend on a few longer stints.

I have thought about this but heard conflicting stories where it can reduce the MPG or even upset the engine management. Maybe it depends on the version of the engine, I have the earlier one without the stutter. So untill I have a bit more to go on I will probably leave this out.

I get about 45mpg over 1000 miles of driving.

It has gone up to 48 recently as I have been driving like a damn granny.

I have tried the button press when fueling and it does make it better between fuel stops

over 13,700 miles since new, filling to the brim and taking note of miles and fuel, I'm now averaging out at a fraction under 48mpg.

I've had a few tanks over 50, but also quite a few under 46.

  • 3 weeks later...

What with the price of diesel going up so much, I've done a few tests to see what mpg I can get. I thought I'd post the results so no-one else has to go through the tedium of driving at 60mph (it's practically impossible). Anyway, over a 55mile trip, only three miles of which is not motorway, I get this:

Steady 60mph: 69.9mpg

Steady 80mph: 54mpg

Unsteady 90+mph: 44mpg

I've got a standard 03 Vrs, with 104k on the clock. All mpgs measured off the computer. So from these results, who needs a Fabia Greenline or Polo Bluemotion or whatever, when you can get nearly 70mpg out of a VRs: economical when you want it, yet drives like (and looks like) a rocket powered bread machine on roller skates when you're in the mood? Mine's driving better now than it ever has. Only thing that's ever gone wrong is a worn suspension bush. A fantastic Q-car. Timed it 0-60mph at 8.5s.

My trip reads an average of 46mph with a dragon box, exhaust and pd160

I get an average of 54-55mpg over a 40mile journey which I make each week, mostly dual carriagewy

Recently done North west -> Le Mans , a few trips out and then back and got the average of around 53ish mpg over just under 1200 miles.

this was generally 80mph average (most with cruise on) on the motorways, with occational hooning where possible.

On the way there i managed 387 miles before i filled up, that was with an indicated 40 miles remaining and cost about 60 euros and i think that was about 1.5 euros a litre.

not bad considering most motorway driving was in 6th gear and the odd WOT :D

Got REVO, PD160, Pipercross, etc do 70 plus miles a day down the A15, and i average 61MPG...

Wouldn't even bother looking at mpg until it's over 50k miles. Just about run in by then.

My weekly average works out at an (indicated) 56mpg, so not shy of 50mpg in real terms.

Thats on a 53 plate Fabia vRS, just about to touch 111k miles. :D

Almost run in then

They are amazingly economical cars for the performance....

i was driving a 105bhp 1.9 octyII last week, and although it was massively economical (67mpg) it wasnt nearly as perky as a furby :(

Almost run in then

Yep, previous owner made sure it was well travelled for me getting it. :D

That was nice of him
