Fabia 1.4 16v

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of getting one of these in the near future. I understand that this is available in 75hp and 100hp forms. Which is most common? Does the trim level give a clue (e.g. more likely to be 75 if Comfort, more likely to be 100 if Elegance)?

100BHP is definatley the most common, the 75BHP is quite rare as it's only in automatics and early sport models, so it won't matter if it's a comfort or elegance e.t.c

i got a 1400 16v comfort 100bhp is silver got air con and that, not sure for the wheels as mine came with plastic after market ones, but got vRS wheels on now, quite good engines quite common

No disrespect, I am sure your car is good but the 1.4 16v isn't a particulary good engine from a technical point of view,

The torque comes in way too high in the rev range (which is why the 75bhp one exists as well) and the earlier ones suffer from piston ring problems

Yeah, get a 1.9 TDI if you want 100 horses, the 1.4 TDI if you want 75, or the SDI if you can make do with 64. The Fabia petrol engines weren't as good as the diesels. The 1.4 MPi's more robust and user-friendly than the 1.4 16v, although it has pretty poor fuel economy and isn't that hot on power.

If you can get hold of a 2.0, though, it will be a rocketship! ;):D

Couldn't agree more, if your looking at an older Fabia (Pre 2003) and you don't need much in the way of performance the 1.4MPI is slow but torquey and it is chain driven so wont need expensive belt replacements like the 1.4 16v

If your looking at a later model, the higher powered 1.2 seems to be quite good

i have the 05 sport, must say for a 1.4 it drives like a 1.6

I'm going to stick up for the 1.4 16v, it's fine as long as you are prepared to rev it; if you keep it above 4000 revs, it loves it. So for country driving, it's great.

Yeah, OK you have to replace the cambelt (do you not on the TDI?) and it eats piston rings if it's AUB, but it's alright really.

Cheers

Rob

I agree. I've never been happier with a car.

I've never quite got the 1.4 drives like a 1.6 thing

My Felly pumps out 75BHP and some 1.2s pump out 80.

That said the 1.4 16v engine is a sweet revving engine. Only thing that concerns me is possibly the oil consumption as my cousin has had to top the oil up every now and again (might be due to his driving habits)

where can one find the engine code? Will this be on the V5 or the engine number of a HPI check?

also when checking oil when the engines cold then warm will this give 2 diff readings

the 16v 100bhp is a really revvy engine! and yeah once you keep the revs up its happy to pull right to 115mph:D you can tell if its a 100 bhp by the red V.

75bhp ones were for automatic's only and classics. or the sport.

dont remember comfort or elegance getting the manual option.

0-60 in 11secs i think...the 2.0 drinks a bit more oil though but has the torque advantave and revs over a diesel.

1.9tdi's are punchy but i feel there held back... very economical but maybe i just prefer the petrols. :)

Just reading through this post and am now alarmed as I have the 1.4 16v 100bp :( oh woe is me! plus since i got it it has been in and out the garage with an alarm that just kept going off (still happening), a knocking on the front wheel (ARB Link now fixed) a none funcitoning rear wipe (kind of fixed) and I now a have a broken sill on the window...joy! ad can I find out what they are officially called to get a replacement - no!

The temperature sensor on my cousins Furby 1.4 16v has been changed.

At about 4000+rpm its spitting some oil from the exhaust.

Thats why his oil levels keep going down.

Mechanic and after reading Fabia threads point to the piston rings.

How much are the rings to change?

And is it worth having all 4 changed? or just the affected ones.

the meaning of it driving like a 1.6 is the ammount of pull mine has, if u time it right it will pull you into your seat

I own a Fabia 1.4 16V Sport Edition (The specific edition was only for Greece). Very good and reliable engine, and if you want to tune it up (like i did) it would be very easy.

My cousin has had his little Fabia examined and theres nothing wrong with it now.

Oil level stays at the halfway mark.

How do you tell if it's got an AUB engine please?

Should be on a sticker in the service book and next to the spare wheel. Not all AUB engines have problems, mine has done 75000 miles and hardly uses any oil.

  • 5 months later...

I've got an AUB engine and right now my mechanic wants the piston rings changed. Is this a common fault?

try an engine flush and a good clean of the breather system -including air filter change first, might save you a few quid.
