Toms 98S Ford Mondeo V6 Ghia-X

Featured Replies

Well, I know this isn't popular with some members, but in a bid to save over £70 a month on insurance, and £200 odd on a monthly finance payment the vRS is up for sale, and in its place I have bought this!

Its a 98S (MY99) Ghia-X, 2.5V6 Duratec 24v in diamond silver. Fully loaded with

  • Full dark grey leather
  • Heated front seats
  • Electric adjustment for the drivers seat
  • Trip computer
  • Drivers infomation system
  • 16" Alloys
  • 6CD changer under the passenger seat
  • Steering column stereo controls
  • Passenger airbag
  • Traction control
  • Lots of chrome and wood effect trim
  • Cruise control
  • Front and rear ventilated disks
  • Electric tilt & slide sunroof - really love this!! :D

The car was an ebay bargain, and came with every receipt from new, serviced 500 miles ago, all the old MOTs, even receipts for bulbs etc!!! There is no rust, not a ding on the bodywork anywhere, and mint inside. Looks to have been well cherished. Recently had a new centre pipe and back box, 2 new tyres, MOT til Feb and tax til August. Even came with half a tank of fuel!!!

At £770, I hope to get atleast 12 months out of it, although tbh I break even at just over 2 months! :P

There are a couple of niggles that have reared their head, the airbag light has started flashing, so will have a look at the pretensioner wiring under the drivers seat. The coolant level light comes on intermittantly so need a new sensor for that, sidelight bulb has been changed as it was dead, and the IMRC unit is a bit sticky/intermittant in its operation, so a replacement has been sourced for fitting asap. Otherwise it runs smooth as anything, and seems to be returning similar economy to the 2.0TFSI. :)

A few pics for you... Will be detailed in the near future. 2 of the wheels were done today, but no pics of them minted up just yet.

Reminds me of my old one, looks like an excellent buy.

Ooooh lovely. I miss mine.

It should have the oval tail pipe being a V6.

Stomping on the pedal in second gear produces the most lovely noise, IIRC :D

Cheers guys!! :)

I was thinking of an exhaust trim :o but is that allowed

Will have to try and find an OEM V6 pipe to see what it should look like. Can't be many around with the original back box by now though surely! ;)

Forgot to add - 110k, but feels like half that.

I was looking for a while, and tbh was after a 2.0. But after seeing a few heaps, I didn't want to let this one slip though the net, it was local, the right condition, and the right price!

Ah but how well does the handbrake work and will it do a 360 as well? :D

Handbrake works just fine, but I can't see me abusing this one tbh ;)

From my experience with the Mk2 watch for water in the boot. This is caused by leaking rear light clusters and will cost about 80quid to fix (new clusters).

It definitely needs some 17's and lowering from the photos and if you are interested and you should be, I had a pair of Phoenix Saphire Gold 6x9's in the front doors with the standard head unit.

It sounded very nice and very loud. ;)

Enjoy.

Rather nice Thomas. :)

Looks a nice motor.

You'll have your driving gloves and pipe soon enough Sir ;)

:)

Nice looking car Tom, I've always had a soft spot for a mondy thats because at heart I'm a ford man as I grew up with fords all my life. But nothing in the present range done it for me when I was looking for another car.

Davy

For £770 that dosen't look bad Tom....

Already looking forward to seeing what next months new car will be

Interested how you got 6x9s in the standard door cards Ian - any info on that would be appreciated. The standard speakers are 5x7, but are shockingly bad.

I'll be leaving the wheels and suspension standard. If I can pick up a diamond silver rear spoiler I may put one of them on, but don't want to spend a fortune on the car. Plus upgraded suspension will just encourage me to drive like a loon in it which I don't really want to do :)

looks ok Tom , just watch for headgasket leaks , it will sound like a blowing exhaust manifold at the front

  • Author
You can drive like a loon, even with standard suspension. My old one did several laps of the nurburgring with 148K on the clock.

 And yours was a slush box IIRC

Yeah, I've heard about the head gaskets Ric. I will be changing the waterpump, thermostat and coolant soon as a precaution. I understand the stock pump has a plastic impellor which has a habit of breaking up thus leading to the head gasket issues. :) Will order a metal one to go on.

Good buy Tom. Goodluck with yet another car :D

 And yours was a slush box IIRC

Yes it was, but with the transmisson in sport mode it went surprisingly well.

The 2.5 is a sweet engine, keep it will maintained and it will last forever.

Of that I'm sure, but just with the bodywork rotting around it!!!

Wtf?!?!?!

Confused Simon?

The vRS is for sale, bit of a money saving and parent pleasing exercise. :) Its only a stop-gap until I'm debt free though ;)

All the wheels are looking ace now. Not mint by any means, but look 100x better now. Pic to follow.

Also minted up the boot & wheel well, removed the dealer sticker from the rear screen and generally sorted out the boot area. :)

Got the replacement IMRC fitted today, so all is hunky dorey there now! :)

Spent most of the day putting the vRS back to standard, but I did finish detailing the wheels, and boot/wheel well area. A bit boring, but pics below anyway!!! :)

rest of the interior, and engine bay next! :)
