window seal leaking

Featured Replies

Hi all as you may have seen on the news its been a bit wet around here in Somerset over the last few days :rolleyes:but my problem has been there for a while. the rear passenger central locking has been playing up and as I was driving along it would be trying to lock and unlock and sometimes all the other doors and tailgate locks would be clicking:( .Ive found that the inside of the door was damp but behind the membrane. The leak path is from where the outer window seal goes around the pillar, leaving a tapered gap starting from about 4mm.Has anyone got any tips on how to make this watertight as I cant see that fitting a new seal will improve this. Thanks Jon

Try some black silicone sealent to fill the gap.If its against the glass apply some grease to the glass and then use the sealent.

I would guess they all have a gap there, almost by design?

I would have throught there be some drainage holes in the bottom of the door to let the water out, although I have not had a look.

thanks for the reply. There are drain holes in the bottom of the door but it still stays damp inside which causes the cables and plugs to feel wet.It is a design fault but was wondering if any others had had probs with this and found a way to deal with it.spent all afternoon with the WD40 and amalgamating tape waterproofing the cables and plugs so hopefully this will work

I have never been inside the rear doors - just the front ones - to replace the passenger door glass, and the opener cable on the drivers side - so I am not aware of their layout.

My parents are in Somerset, but higher up so avoided the flooding issues :-)

My octy used to leak in heavy rain and might still do, although I think I have cured most leaks - the ultimate cure was a garage :-)

At least you don't have rusty vertical bars in the rear windows...
