Advice on oil pressure warning needed!

Featured Replies

My Octavia VRS oil pressure warning light came on this morning. Naturally concerned in a brown underpant kind of way I went to pull over, as I did so it went off again. Several minutes later it did it again, I was round the corner from home so I parked up at the house. Have checked the oil level and also can't find any obvious leaks anywhere. Tried to get it to do it again whilst stationary but was unable to replicate it. I also had someone plug a diagnosis kit in which found no codes!

If anything it seems to have happened after accelerating (although I'm being gentle with it anyway as I've got it booked in for a new cam belt next week) - I'm in no way an expert but would have thought that if low pressure was going to happen it would be more likely at lower revs?

I'm hoping it's going to be something simple like a faulty pressure sensor but feel wary of driving it if there could be an oil pressure problem? Has anyone heard of an intermittent warning like this, if so any ideas what the cause could be?

Many thanks for any suggestions.

It will be pressure if its red.

Mine would idle without fault but when revved over 3k on idle it would then go off.

Only reason i know it was the sensor is because ive got an oil pressure gauge and when i looked there was nothing connected to the sensor

i,ve had the exact same problem and now it looks like i am going to have to replace most or all of the engine

so mu advice would be DON'T drive the car and get the oil pump checked out

Get the oil pressure checked, I would think if the switch is ok you have a problem with the pump. good news is its pretty easy to change, only the sump has to come down. Make sure they also replace the pick up.

This seems unlikely given that you say it's bboed for a new cambelt, but have you changed the oil in the last week or two?

Thanks all, strangely it hasn't happened since but I'm thinking I should get it checked out anyway. No, the oil hasn't been changed recently, but was wondering if there could be something causing a blockage if sensor not at fault? The garage have promised to blow out the oil lines etc when they service it and change the cam belt. Think it would be a good idea to replace the oil pump anyway as a precautionary measure then?

Yeah i would, they are known for blocking up on the 1.8T.

Same here pick up pipe blocked put the light on same as yours gave me a few seconds before the engine stopped - RESULT seized cams with slipped timing.

Its so easy to take the sump off and clean the pick up pipe just undo and take out or you could order a new one unfortunatley i never got the chance so new engine for me from germany as the second hand ones all had probs result was 2500 euro's the shipping then all the hassle of building it which i did myself so a few quid saved
