could do with speaking to lummox as im just after a bit of advice before doing that, only just got here and my ferry back isnt until sunday so thought i could have a quick look before ringing for recovery

  • Author

it cranks up and runs for a couple of seconds and then stalls,no immobiliser light though but did have a few lights come on before i stopped the car, beeping and abs, airbag and handbrake light flashing?

In fairness and without wishing to be rude nobody should give you Ross number without his permission and if he wanted you to have it you would have it.

That said he probably won't mind helping you so I will ask him for you if I can get in touch.

if you have his number and wouldnt mind asking his opinion on whats wrong and go from there, ill call recovery tomorrow if need be but as im doing nothing i might as well have a look at the car myself

Any more info on this problem guys?

car starts everytime and if you press the throttle when it fires up you can rev the engine but it stalls instantly?

no immobiliser light on either

I heard my name?

Point one I dont work for Skoda (onr a Skoda dealer), they might get the hump with that referance. As for being a technical guy well thats a matter of opinion, but I feel flattered that you think of me in times of trouble :)

Right if your car is starting up and then diying after a few seconds its an immobilizer fault. I'd bet you dont have a spare key with you. You have either got a failure of communication between the key and the car or the car and the dash, sadly there aint much you can do without diagnostic equipment. A stab in the dark try moving the adjustable column about and re try.

Failing that I cant think of much else unless you have a throttle body/accelerator pedal fault.

Sorry about that but yes people regard you as a man in the know so thought youd be my best bet for advice,so your pretty sure it could be the key and your right i have no spare with me,can the immobiliser be reprogrammed or can the expert vag com systems disable the immobiliser completely?

im out in gent as i was supposed to be going to club charlys tomorrow and no doubt someone there could help me if it can be done but dont think i dare chance it cos if they cant fix it then im going to have to get recovery which is better done earlier than later as im due back on the ferry by 5pm tomorrow

also anything i can check under the dash as main panel is off already aswell as the steering cowling, does the immobiliser run through the clocks into a module somewhere in the car as i could check the connections?

You cant bypass the immobilizer no sadly (be a bit pointles if you could).

If someone had VAG TACHO you can pulll out the SKC and reprogram the key unless you happen to know the code anyhow?

Might just be a TB alignment which is easily done if Phatty brings his VAG COM along.

The immobilizer is in the dash instrument cluster.

ok thanks for your help, your a gent, just dont know whats best to do, cos if i cant be reprogrammed then im stuffed as i have to be at the ferry terminal by 5pm which is about 30 miles from were im staying so ill have to organise recovery fairly early on

Hope you get it sorted...

Would try and get someone to look with vag-com or similar and see if there's any problems.

Good luck!

Check your fuses as well, I took out a fuse from my fuse board forgot to put it back and it did that once.

I had a similar problem with my old fabia and the immobiliser, and I get it every now and again in this fabia. Might be worth giving the inside of the key a clean, and cleaning the key part you insert as well, lol. Works for me.
