Featured Replies

Ha ha ha ha ha the guy wants to find some jokes for his mates

He can't relise that his mates skoda is practicly a vw/audi..... my mates TT even has skoda on it's back axel :o

I just laugh at them because there the ones who will be left standing in a big smog cloud from me

I get fed up of people who make fun of Skoda, yeah I know I used to make fun of skoda's when I was younger but I have seen the light and totally converted, cannot fault them at all and I just think of them as a affordable VW.

Davy

...I just think of them as a affordable VW

:nono:

A VW is an unneccesarily expensive Skoda.

:D

Oh dear, poor feller must have been kept in without media/internet/TV access etc since 1987 if he still thinks those Skoda jokes are funny.:thumbdwn:

They weren't even funny back then. Its pratts like him that actually stop some people who want a Skoda from buying one. They still want one and appreciate they are better value than their VW alternatives, but because a small minority of mindless, totally blinkered idiots like him still think its funny to take the mick, they stray away.:(

If he drives a Golf GTi, I think i know what the GTi stands for.......Gormless Tw4t inside.:finger:

Never mind, I suppose he feels he must retaliate as he's probably jealous his mate has bought a more reliable, more satisfying to own and better quality car than him- the satisfaction surveys prove this.:)

Dear o dear.........Talk about raw nerves.

They're just jokes, that's it:)

Is it of any importance whether people you don't know like your brand of car or not??

Lance

:iagree:

I think some of 'em are quite funny :D

Skoda UK had an uphill struggle in the mid-90's when the New Felicia was launched, trying to convince the public that Skodas were good cars etc, not a joke, and that peoples perceptions of a Skoda were actually misconceptions.

I think the arrival of the Octavia and Fabia later on really opened a lot of people minds as to just how far skoda had come.

These mindless jokes resulted in so many of the rear engined models being prematurely scrapped, as their owners deemed them worthless after 8 years or so, many of them still with low milages, good bodies and mechanicals etc.The trade hated them, all because of the jokes, and always offered loose change for them as P/EX prices as they didnt want a Skoda on their forecourt.

If a clutch or headgasket went, rather than repair it, people scrapped their Estelle or Rapid as they thought it would be stupid spending more on the car than it was actually worth.

Thats why there are so few around now.

To someone who has owned both the Rear Engined and the newer Skodas, I feel the jokes were totally unjustified.

Finally, the rear engined ones are starting to fetch decent money as now the jokes have all but disappeared, with only the odd pratt still finding them humorous.

Imagine how the used value of a Fabia or Octavia or Superb would suffer if the jokes returned.

Thats why some of us are offended and get angry by Skoda jokes.

I had a rear engined Skoda, the jokes never bothered me.

Also, the joke about doubling the value of a Skoda by filling the fuel tank applies to loads of cars these days with the price of fuel now :(.

"What do you call a Skoda with twin exhausts?

-A Wheelbarrow"

Had me in stitches that one :D

"What do you call a Skoda with twin exhausts?

-A Wheelbarrow"

Had me in stitches that one :D

But surely the person who 'devised' that 'joke' didn't think it through. How many wheelbarrows have you seen with 2 wheels at the front? Or even 2 at the back for that matter.

I found some rather amusing :P

Bloke goes up to a young lad and says get in the car....lad says no!

Bloke says what about if I give you some money......lad says no!!

Bloke says what if I give you some money and some sweets......lad says no!!!

Blokes says, if I give you some money, some sweets and a puppy will you get in my car.........lad says, dad you bought the farking Skoda, you live with it.

It's a joke that's all:)

What do you call a Skoda with a Whip aerial.......

A dogem!

What do you call a Skoda convertible............

A skip

What do you call a six-seater skoda?

An eggbox.

Got to have a sense of humour about it - people still take the pi55, but I'm the one laughing...

:)I currently own eleven rear engined Skodas [the ones the jokes were about] because they are so special to me I can't bear to scrap them, especially now they have become rare. Four of them are on the road, the rest are restoration projects that most normal people would have scrapped.

I got my first at 18, in 1990...you can probably imagine the **** taking an 18 year old would get for owning a Skoda back then! I didn't let it bother me at all...obviously, as I haven't been without one since!

skorob2007 is correct, it is partly the jokes that led to the poor resale worth of old Skodas, which in turn led to them being scrapped when minor repairs were needed.

However, I actually really enjoy being part of a relatively small group of people that can see beyond the jokes and see how brilliantly engineered these special cars were...especially when you consider the budget that Skoda had to work with. As well as the engineering excellence, these cars are so characterful and fun to drive, and cheap to run. No-one sensible will claim they are better in every way than a normal modern western car of their time, but for value and fun they were pretty damned good!

As for the jokes....I reckon they ae pretty funny if you forget the consequenses they caused. My "favorit" one is:

Q-What's the difference between a hedgehog and a Skoda?

A-The pricks are on the outside of the hedgehog! :D
