Hall/speed/crank sensor - Felicia

Featured Replies

Would it be fair to assume that if the speedo works properly then this sensor is working properly?

If not, is there any way for the average bod with a multimeter to test it?

The speedo is not driven by this sensor... the speedo is cable driven.

Not sure about testing it though.

What problem(s) are you experiencing?

Cable driven, is it? I was thrown by Jorily Skoda who sells this sensor on Ebay and describes it as a speed/speedo sensor. I always call them crank sensors and I don't really think there's anything wrong with it, I just wanted to know if it was possible to test them. If it did operate the speedo in addition to its other crank-sensing duties this might be an easy way of telling if it was actually working. This would be too easy, of course.

See other post on idling problem for... well, the idling problem :)

It's not a big problem - it's just that I'm half repairing/ half going to buy this car but it has to be reliable. At the moment it goes and starts all the time but I'm thinking if it can rev itself up to 2000rpm for no apparent reason it can also rev itself to 0rpm and stay there.

If the crank sensor isn't working at all then neither is your engine!

You would't even be able to start the car if was broken... i know this from experience!

As above ^^... the speedo is cable driven from the differential,

the crank sensor is a simple hall-effect type switch for sensing how fast the engine is turning, the engine will NOT start if it is unplugged but i guess if it was faulty in some way it could be giving the ecu false reading regarding rpm hence the fast idle speed.....

but to be honest it's more likely to be a throttle body problem

What engine? Give is a clue.

I've been assuming a 1.3 but i could be wrong... lol

Of course it does. Especially when the title thread is as vague as Hall/Speed /Crank sensor, as they all valid depending on engine.

When asking for technical help you should say what engine you have, year the car is etc and then hep can be given that is accurate to the car.

If you went to the doctors you wouldnt ask him to guess where the pain is would you.

Input, we need it.
