If you need a new head, I've got one with not much mileage going spare. ;) The bottom end I am keeping though, so it would take mega offers for me to relinquish that over to you :D

I think Gary has his eye on that

I think the engines scrap ill just get one for 600 off fleabay and stick that in. Got my new box to go in with the diff so makes sense to do it all at once.

I may even be tempted to put a SMF on while i am at it

On a side note I Have 4 cars and non of them work.

The 1972 toyota fj ragg top has no gearbox or rear diff.

The landy runs but has no mot or free tax

The hilux has a Blown turbo

The fabia doesnt run

Bloody cars! Off to look at a volvo 2.3 T5 c70 coupe on monday too

I think Gary has his eye on that

You wouldn't know it. ;) Come on Gary! The garage made me take it home today as it was cluttering up their storage. It's currently in my boot.... :o

ITS DEAD :(

Drained oil and theres some nice chunks of shiney metal in it. :(

With the glow plugs out and a big bar on the bottom pulley, the engine will not turn at all. Bugger.

Got bored so decided to try and find the boost leak thats been driving me nuts. I know its probably the least of my worrys but at least i found it  Was a slight leak where the allard pipe fits to the upper boost pipe. :D

Ribena bottle, very useful tool, no mechanic should leave home without some

14062008.jpg

Pump compressed air in........ air then leaks from said problem :D Job done.

Now to swap the engine and were sorted

Break down the old engine as

a) there'll be some nice intact spares

B) It teaches you a lot. I've split down two to date. :D

Also - how the hell did you have a boost leak there? That's a similar clip to the ones I use and nothing gets past them :D

It wasnt as tight as it should ahve been, after stripping loads of the standard stupid weeny clips i thought id take it steady with the mikalor ones

Now i realise the true clamping pressure of these beasts and the reason they are rated to 50 bar :D

Ive had many an engine in peices before, will defo keep the engine, as the head is pukka and will probably be used in future developements on the car ;)

Gutted for you

I only wish I had a second car to use in case mine went pear shaped. Mine is my one and only car so although I'm passionate about the tuning I have to factor in that if I blow this engine, I'm going to be struggling for transport.

Sorry to hear about this John :(

Onwards and upwards though I guess :D

Steve

Bugger, that's a real shame. Was hoping it'd be something simple like the starter etc. :(

Hope you get it all sorted anyway mate. Makes my suspension problems look pathetic in comparison....

Am very interested to know what has actually failed, as it sounds like it is bottom end related, which I always took to be the strongest part of the engine. Kind of hoping it's just a failed oil pump and oil starvation has caused it (although are there not warning signs of this?)

Jon,

PM me.

One of our customers have an ASZ in stock, lot less than £600 and i'll see what i can do to bring the price down if an OE replacement is the way you want to go.

and whatever else you need i will give it a go:thumbup:

damn thats a shame, as above any idea what caused it to go?

its like the time of year for bust engines, my missus just drowned hers! tried starting it after she and a friend thought they had got the water out of it and the damn thing blew 5 holes into the block!!! at least i knew what caused it lol!

her car is now well on the way to having a nice turbo lump chucked in, shame its not a skoda though ;)

Update:

Oil pump failure, resulting in the destruction of the crank bearings. :(

I have two second hand engines on the way. Ones an asz out of a 53 plate golf gt tdi with 34k on it. The other is a secret, but comes with loom, box, ecu, dash pod and keys. Hopefully some mountings too. :D

Sounds like a plan, hope you get it fixed buddy ;):P

See how you get on with the ASZ Golf engine, from what I remember even though they are the same engine code they dont fit. WW found this out a while back.

Thought as much as i doubted it was power related. Those engines are tough. I sold my PD130 with 190k on it and was running 220bhp+ for 110k and was perfect when i sold it.

I think its all down to the engine mount holes in the engine why they dont fit. Will have to see. It was cheap enough so can always flog it on if thats the case

Sorry to hear about this John, I was hoping to see your car in action at the Awesome RR day next month...

Still at least you've got the skill to do most/all of the work yourself and its not going to cost you thousands to get it back on the road. Good time to fit a few extras as well:D

I think it was to do with the oil filter housing on the front of the engine came out at a different angle and wouldnt go in. The blocks were different to the Fabia to the housing couldnt be fitted onto the Golf lump.

So what spare parts will you have going? :D

/\ none there for me :)....

.... if only:rofl:
