Sorry to hear about this John, I was hoping to see your car in action at the Awesome RR day next month...

Still at least you've got the skill to do most/all of the work yourself and its not going to cost you thousands to get it back on the road. Good time to fit a few extras as well:D

I will be at the rolling road day, Might not be in a fabia, but i can assure you it will be something interesting

If the fabias not running then people are advised to bring ear protectors...... those carbs on the golf are loud!

I think it was to do with the oil filter housing on the front of the engine came out at a different angle and wouldnt go in. The blocks were different to the Fabia to the housing couldnt be fitted onto the Golf lump.

Ar bugger, back to the drawing board then :(

(non PC-mode on) This is what separates the men from the boys - turning a catastrophic failure into what will likely be an incredible upgrade...

(In some countries they use a crowbar to separate the men from the boys, but that's a tasteless joke, so I won't make it......)

Power to you mate,

Bas

go on bas tell the joke:D
Update:

Oil pump failure, resulting in the destruction of the crank bearings. :(

Sorry top hear that mate. I know you'll triumph though!

Steve

Well it's like this - in country xxx how do they separate the men from the boys?.........

Ahhh, thought it might be the oil pump. Kind of good to hear that no power related component failed. I have my oil pressure gauge in my car, which is handy for me as I can see when oil pressure dips and I might start suffering oil starvation in the crank area, :) Thankfully you also have a couple of minutes grace once the oil pump fails, until something else fails.

Hope it's back on the road soon.

Make that a coupe of seconds jase, if it fails totally

My main worry now is, Oil pump failure= no oil to turbo= 1 screwed Satge 2 turbo dynamics turbocharger :(

Fingers crossed for you...

Steve

As a guess - unless you were on-boost when it failed - the engine shutting down probably saved the Turbo....

fingers crossed here for you too......

Bas

It was actually fafter about 50 seconds of start up, which will be a good thing I suppose.

The Engine had been sounding rough for a while so could have been running with low oil pressure for a while. Although I am sure the car should have a low oil pressure light?

all front end is stripped off today, back to the chassis legs.

I dont have an engine crane where the car is atm, But i do have a forklift...... So the idea is to sit a pallet under the engine and box and lift the whole lot out in one :D

Hopefully engine will be out this afternoon. Then Ive now got 3 engines, a gearbox, some wires and a small tin box with electrical stuff in it coming ;)

I Love bodging. :D

The other is a secret, but comes with loom, box, ecu, dash pod and keys. Hopefully some mountings too. :D

;)

Hope your turbo's ok if you opt for getting it all backup and running.

I Love bodging. :D

I'd love you to see your for sale thread whenever you come to sell it.

Anyway good luck.

Put it another way, the car will never be for sale on this forum

Only need to find an unsuspecting chav who likes wheel spinning and its as good as sold :D

Have you thought about a job in sales at all John?

:P

I work in sales :D

I am very good, Honesty is the best policy when it comes to sales, if people feel they can trust you then they will buy from you

Never trust a sales person. ;)

(Something my Dad taught me years ago :D He's in marketing.... )

Been busy for a few days, so havent updated the thread.

The fabia is back up and running, Runs like a dream now.

For future reference, Lummox was right the golf engine block is different to the 6y/9n/6L engine. :o

My fabia is now loaded with a seat ibiza ASZ engine out of a 54 plate car and it runs brillient.

Half seat half skoda hybrid now

The turbo wasnt damaged, thank God. I should have really changed the flywheel while i had the engine and box out but I didnt really have the cash for a new one atm :(

Anyways heres to another 140k :D

Yaaay, brilliant. :D

So what caused the oil pump failure? Clearly nothing to do with the huge amounts of boost with a big turbo, FMIC and insane map?

Yes - any investigation into the oil pump would be ideal.

Also, should I get my hands on a new oil pump, how easy is it to change? I assume that at an oil change, I could just drop the sump and access everything from underneath the car?

Three cheers for John! :woot:

How much is a new oil pump, out of interest?

From the looks of it I dont think it would be too bad to change.

Its chain driven off the crankshaft.

I wouldnt bother worrying about changing it tbh. My car has done alot of miles with questionable service history before I got it.

Then as chris pointed out its not your average fabia  And it does get driven hard!

Glad your back up and running again John. just got to make sure I dont end up following you to the RR day :) :) or has the new bits eliminated some of the sooty effect

Nope still running on coal

Just try and keep in front and you will be fine ;)

Ill be driving steady from now on tho, have to make fuel last as long as poss with the 100 mile a day commute :D
