Fabia, I think my engines had it

Featured Replies

Well last night the engine was sounding very rough indeed on the way home from the malthouse meet.

Let the car idle as usual and then shut down.

Started the car this evening and it started but sounded very rough indeed, was about to shut it of and it stopped suddenly by itself. The starter motor engages now but the engine is locked solid. :(

I knew it was coming as its been sound really rough for a while but was hoping it would last a little longer.

20vt anyone ;)

Anything salvageable?

Oh dear - doesn't sound good.

But I'm sure you will either fix it, or come up with an interesting replacement!

Sympathies :)

Interesting :)

Just been looking ASZ on ebay £600.

Is the pd150 code ARL?

Never know it might be something daft like the flywheel jamming or the starter motor gone. Will see if i can turn the engine over by hand tomorrow... (once ive removed the glow plugs) ;)

Yup ARL is 150.

BKD and BKP are 2.0 PD ;)

I have just been looking at the 2.0pd option  Are You monitoring my ebay searchs :P

With enough time and money anything is possible ;)

oh ****...... i might go for a softer map if its going to **** up

Mine's been reliable.

Sorry to hear about your motor Jon. :( I have a spare pd130 bottom end and a spare head too, but I would recommend only using it for a rebuild with an uprated crank and pistons (which is what I want to do eventually with it :P)

can I have your intercooler :D

Bad news that Jon, ah the joys of modifying.

I'm not that mechanicaly minded mate, but for what its worth my old Astra 1.7 TD was

running a bit rough, then on starting one morning there was a horrible sound, crunching

and metal eating metal for a couple of seconds, then sudden silence.

Was convinced it was a goner, was actually starter motor gone, £140 repair IIRC.

Hope yours turns out to be something relatively minor:)

(bump started with starter gone and it ran like a dream, for an astra:O)

There was a foreign guy with an ibiza running a 2.0tdi using hevily modified 1.9tdi ecu and management, so yes it is possible...

and wheres devonmikeyboy these days with his twin-turbo tdi audi?

Oh no.... :(

Having said that, those that burn twice as brightly etc etc :D

And yours did burn very bright indeed. It was wierd being in a Fabia that fast. :)

Ah well, just an excuse for a new project. As you say, perhaps a 2.0 PD......strap the hybrid onto it too. :D

Oh mate :( Hope it is ok, keep us updated!

Fingers crossed it will be ok for you

Thanks for all the comments. Still not had chance to look at it, gunner have a go tonight, will take the starter motor off first and test that, then drop the oil and see if theres any bits of engine in it

Ar well you win some you loose some :(

If you need a new head, I've got one with not much mileage going spare. ;) The bottom end I am keeping though, so it would take mega offers for me to relinquish that over to you :D
