Finally Fitted Whiteline ARB

Featured Replies

I bought a Whiteline rear ARB from Julian at Balance Motorsport In Feb of this year.

Finally got round to fitting it today, WOW!!! what a difference, my Octy goes round corners with very little body roll. :)

Some observations :-

1/ The threads on the 'U' bolts are not M10 but I believe 3/8 UNC (measured o/d is 9.3 mm, pitch is 1.4mm) , I discovered this when i found one of the flange nuts was a wrong size, a metric nut would not fit, I went to B&Q, compared thread form with a M10 bolt, the pitch was clearly different. I found a UNC Nylock in my workshop and so all was well.

2/ Reading one of the install threads about using ty-wraps to hold the bar in place prior to fitting really helped as i was doing it myself (Many thanks).

3/ Instead of 3 setting holes on the Roll Bar, this one has 4. (If 4 being hardest and 1 softest), have got mine set initially set on 2. I might try 3 in a couple of days.

4/ Phoned my insurance company Direct Line, told them of the addition (no change to policy fee).

Once again many thanks to all who have posted with advice on fitting ARB's to Ovctavia's

NB: "Matt thanks for letting me drive your Fabia VRS road rocket, one cool car.

Sounds really good.

Do they really make that much difference?

I have mine on setting 2 as well, thinking of trying 3 soon. I can't believe the difference mine made.

the ARB is ace

im on 3 as it wont go to 4 easily!!!!

3 is bril and it does make the car feel totaly diff from std.

best mod for £ for handlin I think

Loosen the U-bolts put on hole 4, tighten the U-bolts and enjoy :D

Wow what a difference, especially in the wet

Have mine set on 3 and just love it. Its is a must have mod for the vRS, well that and a remap.

I had mine set on 2 for ages and when I finally changed it to 3 I was a happy camper.

Just need some FSD's and new springs amongst other things.

Hi Guys,

OK ok, tomorrow setting 3 it is, damn there goes my fuel economy driving. Thanks Clay Target for your comment, i

thought hole 4 was a non-starter.

Sounds really good.

Do they really make that much difference?

Oh yes!

This might have to be my next mod!!

What sort of prices are involved in this then?

Silver Bullet, is there any chance you could put up a few photos of the ARB in situ? I've never really modded a car myself and think this could be my first attempt at a handling mod.

Interesting to note that your insurance company didn't hike up the premium.

After a couple of years it's rusted a bit:

Ouch that's low to the ground. Are the Eibach ones as low?

Does anyone know if the other non-adjustable aftermarket bars how they compare in stiffness? I think I read the Eibach was about as stiff as the whiteline on max, never heard of anyone adjusting back from the stiffest position, has anyone?

Greg.

Thanks Rob, always ready with a photo or two.

It's never scraped on anything. There are cars that have suspension that low as standard - Toyota Previas (old shape) have shocks that come down that low!!

It's never scraped on anything.

What else is your car running Rob?

Do you have a side pic to gauge the height?

Oh yes!

Whats the biggest noticeable difference?

Does it help cure understeer?

Hi Somouk,

Ref your price question:- £137.46 (inc vat), delivery couple of days from ordering. Shop around you might get a better deal.

Prior to fitting, all straps, brackets were zinc painted and sprayed with black paint.

After fitting i did the same to all the nuts and washers.

I guess the most noticeable effect is vertually no body roll, the steering seems much more precise going round corners.

Yeah it helps with understeer too.

I was reading this thinking, Mmmmmmmm nice next upgrade, But I have got this in the way now. Grrrrrrrrr. Don't think it will fit.

Mine is a Piper, 1st Production Piper for the mk1 Octavia vRS, so I'm told.

Also, GarryC has the prototype on his for the mk1 Octavia vRS

would you all say the whiteline is just as good or better than the neuspeed?

sorry if being a bit thick here but looking at thr photos I have a couple of questions.

Is there a piece that use's the same bolts that hold the shocks on?? To fit can you safely undo these with compressors etc.

Am tempted to invest in one of these, Looks like good value for money??

Cheers

The shocks use the standard bolts still, the only different is the bolt also goes through that box section too.
