Bird Turd - best cleaning advice

Featured Replies

A bird turd was left a little longer than desired on the bonnet of my golf (black metallic).

On cleaning it off it has left a circle which seems embedded in the paintwork. I have been over it with a spray of meguiars quick clay spray and tried to clay it off but it still remains. After claying its smooth as silk but the circle remains and can be clearly seen under the sunlight. Its annoying!

Do i need some sort of cutting polish & if so what is good to use please? preferably cheap and available from halfords for ease. Also will I need to use it over the entire bonnet?

Im not the greatest "detailer" and i know there are experts at this sort of thing. Advice appreciated.

Cheers

T-cut will almost definitely get it out - but it is very abrasive and people may have better, less harsh, products to recommend to try first.

It is best to wash off bird poop as soon as spotted - I believe the recommendation is to soak a while with warm water, and to remove it without rubbing it.

Try something like scratch x on it.

If its that bad then it might need sanding out

You descrie it as a circle thats embedded in the paintwork.

Is it definitely some kind of residue that remains?

Or could be a "hole" where the acid in the bird turd has eaten away at the clear coat laquer?

I'm not sure how to tell by the way - I'm just pondering what could have happened.

I wouldn't take her out again if she does that.:(

duraglit?

put some margerine on it and leave for a couple of hours, it will soak into the rock hard turd and become soft and moveable with a cloth.

My mistake was leaving it for too long before wiping it off. I think it cooked in the sun too which didint help. And yes she has since been dumped! lol!!!

Seems to be a round discolouration to the paint which is left after cleaning it off and claying. Looks clean and feels smooth but can be seen under the sunlight so definately something there just not sure what re laquer etc.

T cut would likely do the job but dont want to use it first off as I think its quite strong stuff.

Duraglit - seriously? would give it a go but dont want to cause any damage.

Also has margarine been used for this before? Will bear it in mind for the rock hard baked on turd in the future - the actual first hand turd has been removed in this case - just this annoying remaining blemish that remains!

Cheers for all the advice.....

If its that bad then it might need sanding out

If it gone through the laquer and onto the paint then as above it will need to be sanded out.......

i had this on the boot of my old VRS, it just looked like a circle of matt paint in the middle of gloss. it was as annoying as hell!!

i used a slightly harsher abrasive than t-cut to fix it though it was gently rubbed with a HGV by a driver who wasn't looking where he was going...

the whole hatchback came back looking shinier than ever, and it miraculously shortened the VRS badge at the same time!! bonus!!

;o)

LegoVRS

apparently yes - good for minor surface scratches, I assume that it would also do the job in this case

do a search for "Brasso" or "Duraglit" and you will find references to it....it has to be the brasso duraglit wadding stuff by the way...

I read somewhere that leaving it to air will make it just disappear. Still waiting for it to go! lol ;). Think i will go for some sort of t cut but a less harsh one if it exists. When I debadged the rear I used white spirit on the hatch to get the sticky off. What a mistake that was. 2 white clouds in the black paint on each side! A mate sorted that out but cant really remember what he used!
