Wheel refurb tomorrow - What colour?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Am getting my Octavia vRS wheels refurbed tomorrow (long overdue!) and have chosen a BMW Titan Silver with a clear laquer on top. The person doing it says he will put a pearlescent effect into the laquer for an extra £40 but not sure if it is worth it. I don't want the wheels to look too 'flat', as plain silver can often have that effect. After seeing some of the wheels on here I don't want to go for a darker colour or black, just want to stick to a nice, shiny silver

Has anyone got any suggestions on any decent colours? Preferably with pictures and colour names :) The BBS/Kahn silver looks great but not sure what it is called.

Any help/suggestions are much appreciated :D

This is 'similar' to BMW Titan Silver:

Not answering any of your questions but who? & how much?

PM if you like.

Cheers

i like the standard colour and with a good lacquer coat id imagine they'd look spanking if kept clean. if he could maybe get a purple pearl into the lacquer maybe good but not 100%

silver wheels are boring.

silver is silver is silver doesnt matter whose it is...

would got for darker colour or something more extreme if you want people to even notice you had them refurbed.

white?

Silver without the pearlescent (spl) bit, one question your wheels look mint, why are you having them done?

Hi John, its a place in Millers Industrial estate, not sure what the place is called. But its one of the very last units in that estate. He's charging £150 for all four and £40 extra for a pearlescent finish.

Thats what i was thinking, to keep them sealed and waxed up properly then they'd last a lot longer. But not sure about a pearl in there and whether its worth the extra cost.

I want to keep the car subtle looking without attracting too much attention. Having a clean, well maintained car is different from having a car that stands out. Am not a fan of darker coloured wheels on black cars, they look too dark overall and I like having a set of bright, shiny wheels :D

The pictures were taken last year when the wheels weren't too bad. I've always wanted to get them refurbed as they're third hand when i got them but where in good condition, so didn't really maintain them prorperly. Now they're kerbed, scratched and pitted so thought I'd do my annual detail but start with the wheels first

Not going to make any suggestions as I'm sure you'll get them looking tip top but will comment that the Fabia does look good with Octy Spiders and I also like the REVO stickers below the indicator repeaters, nice touch

I'm in the dark side club! I liked the dark grey 888 astra wheels especially on the black ones. I think it looks fairly smooth and not many cars have them. They had some nice white graphics on the rim too.

Totally agree with you on graphite rims. They can look fantastic  Was very tempted to get them on mine but I just love the shine from silver rims. Wanted to keep the car as oe as possible too, hence sticking with similar/same colours.

I'd stick to silver. Go for the OE look

Gold?

A bright colour?

If it were me, getting them refurbed in silver and wanting to maintain an OEM type look, I'd go for a brilliant silver type finish with some metallic fleck mixed in.

Totally agree that there's plenty of silver finishes you could end up with and can understand that you want to avoid them looking 'flat'. I've seen refurbed wheels done like that before and they don't look good.

That's a good price too - look forward to seeing pics when they're done

I'm avoiding gold as its too Subaru wannabe style. Colours are plain silly and kinda embarrasing hehe.

Polished is good but the problem is thye have to be laquered well and sometimes they can corrode very easily.

Wardy I think I'm going to end up paying a bit more and asking him to put some pearlescent laquer on. No point in spending all that money and not being happy with a flat finish. Will get pics up over the weekend after a full detail ;)

Not quite sure what this pearlescent laquer is? If I put my cynical hat on, it's a bit of waffle so he can charge a bit more ;)

In refurbs I've had done before, any 'sparkle' was mixed in at the paint stage, and then normal laquer over the top - to the best of my knowledge.

Still, be good to have them done and pictures taken

Cheers,

I might have heard the guy wrong. He just said something about adding something 'pearlescent' to the paint or laquer. Same guy did bro's wheels on his 335d and they came out ok. Could have been better but time was an issue and they were just being touched up. At least with ym wheels he has them for a whole day and the whole wheel is being done, rather than just touched up. I'll ask the guy again tomorrow about adding 'sparkle' to the wheels, as what you said about the laquer makes sense

'Graphite' thats the word i was looking for! Go for it, not seen it on any others, be individual. Get people to photoshop it for you then you'd know how it looks.:)

Am not keen on graphite wheels on my car. If it was on coilovers with a big drop and larger brakes then it would pull it off.

Went yesterday to get the wheels done but got there late, around 9.30. Guy was willing to do the car but would have got it back today and I needed the car yesterday evening. It's now booked in for Monday.

Apparently the guy is mixing the metallic pearl paint with the BMW Titan silver, then putting a clear laquer on top. So Wardy was right ;) He said that the pearl would be a silver/blue, and using a green or purple pearl might not suit a black car. He's not charging any extra after all for it either.

I think he was talking about 'relic' or 'ralic' which basically flips the paint colour as well. This would ahve been nice but its too much and a bit OTT on my car.

Now I have more time, am going to think about what colour pearl I want mixed into the silver. Maybe silver/blue would look best? Or green as it matches with the brake callipers?

Sounds very nice indeed. I'd go with a slightly blue tint to the paint. Best would be to see some examples of each finish really.

I have a 320ci convertible I was bored of the silver trim around the dash and doors and on the seat belt clips so I bought a Carbon fibre water pressure transfer kit from ebay and covered it all. it worked better than any sticker I have ever seen and the more laquer you add the better, it gave me a whole new look!

It can also be used on wheels so consider doing this!

I tried to upload pictures for you to see the brand new finish it gives but it wont let me. Sorry! smile.gif
