Magnex on a vRS - any good

Featured Replies

Have read many threads about the Blueflame and Miltek but not so many on the Magnex?

I preferred the blueflame to the miltek due to the looks and price, but the magnex popped up at the right price :D

Will this exhaust be suitable if going 200bhp plus? also do they sound alright? will get a magnex decat when i uprate the turbo.

Cheers

magnex will be fine, however if your going 200+ why not get a mufflerectomy or a turbo back straight through... cheaper than all of the above, and will probably achieve best gains especially as you can choose to go 3'' if you wish. I have a mufflerectomy just taking off the backbox and adding a tip, gives a real good sound and cost 80quid. cheaper than anything else on the market exhaust wise.

From what i know the system im fitting just consists of a backbox which i'd guess would be pretty freeflowing? the middle section is just a pipe as will be the decat when i uprate turbo

Is there not legality issues with removing the back box?

The only real legal issue is noise. But diesels will never be as noisy as petrol so you have no worries there. Trust me, its my job to know:cop1:

Whats the deal with back pressure on turbo diesels.. do you need to get it right?

Yes.

Theres no general rule but from reading members experiences a decat is to be avoided on an OEM VNT turbo:thumbup:

As the decreased back pressure causes the turbo to spin quicker (this is most apparent on remapped fabia's as the turbo is spinning close to its maximum designed rpm or even above)

....

BOOM

I was talking to a local custom exhaust specialist (prospeed cardiff) a while back and when I mentioned "lopping off the backbox and putting a pipe and tip in" he reacted with a grimace, saying that on a turbo diesel with a standard turbo you need to get the balance right or it will be unreliable and could actually lead to a drop in performance.

I'd be inclinced to take his advice as he is a bit of a local legend and prospeed are a renouned company.

He recommend the best thing would be a 2.5" pipe from the CAT back, with a smaller sized backbox in place of the centre silencer and large standard backbox.

If your remapping on OEM turbo keep the cat, just get a cat back system

youve never heard a hybrid running a straight through pipe then, its very noisy, ask jason for a demo,it sounds like god farting:thumbup:

I removed my cat well over a year ago and no problems. This whole back pressure rubbish is well.... rubbish

I removed my cat as well, I was talking to Charlie at prospeed and I said I shouldnt have any issues with the standard turbo, even when remapped, as long as I get a custom map which keeps the boost down a little, he did say however that if I had a FMIC as well on the standard turbo that is when problems could occur due to the increeased lag?

Removing the CAT makes a big difference I found, the car now revs a lot more freely and feels so much less restricted.

It sounds amazing, not chavvy but really deep and burbly, and loud when booting it.

The only downside is that it does smell a little.

I've also heard that magnex are going under

It cant be anywhere near as loud as a Ferrari Evo with a tubi style exhaust. They are legal, so a god fart sounding fabia should easily pass:D
