I picked up my Elegance last night

Featured Replies

Just a couple of things. I was surprised with such a model that the lights didn't come on automatically when it started to get dark last night (even my wifes basic renault clio does that), and also there appeared to be nowhere to plug in my MP3 player. I have a stream headunit so kind of expected to see at least a jack socket, but no.

Like the car though.

If you have auto lights then you must have the light switch in the correct position.

If your Stream is an MP3 and you have a centre armrest then you should have an Aux in.

You have to turn the automatic lights on. It's the first click after "off" and the icon looks like a light heading into a tunnel. Even if you don't have them on, the switch illuminates when it thinks the lights should be on anyway.

As for the aux plug, is it in the center console under the armrest? Mine is, but I assume it depends on whether the "jumbo box" was optioned. I dunno, it's all standard in Aus.

If your Elegance is an 06 then it won't have the aux socket in the jumbo box (or anywhere else for that matter!) They didn't start fitting it until MY07 I think.

OK, well i can't check until tonight, but I have a center armrest but it appears empty. There is some kind of movable ring-pull type plastic thing inside which raises up about 2 inches, but other than that, it looks empty, which is a shame. Is the area under the armrest a jumbo box (what is a jumbo box)

As far as the lights go, I can switch it from Off, to Side Lights, to Main Beams only I think.

So, you don't have light assist. If you had, there would be one more position between OFF and Side lights and it would have tunnel symbol.

Strange, Elegance comes with light assist. Is your car new or second hand? Are you sure it's Elegance and not Ambiente?

If you have a new car, then it might be stock one, so check chassis number to see what year model it is. 10th digit on your VIN number is the model year (not year of production).

Are you sure it's Elegance and not Ambiente?

Well you see thats the problem. It's second hand (first bought April 2006) and on the dealers website it stated Octavia 2.0 TDI PD Elegance. On the service book it has the words ELE next to the model. On the vehicle registration form it states Elegance. I have nothing else to go on other than the spec below.

5 Doors, Manual 6 speed, Hatchback, Diesel, 31,000 miles, Metallic Black Magic with Black Cloth trim. ABS, Adjustable seats, Adjustable steering column/wheel, Alloy wheels, Climate Control, Computer, Cruise control, Driver airbag, Electric mirrors, Foglights, Head restraints, Folding rear seats, Immobiliser, Lumbar support, Park distance control, Passenger airbag, Power assisted steering, Rear armrest, Remote locking, Radio/CD Multichanger, Side airbags, Rear headrests, Traction control, Carbon Dash Effect, Electric Front Windows, Electric Rear windows, Leather Steering Wheel, Air conditioning, Anti theft system, Cloth upholstery, Colour coding - Body, Front armrest, Metallic paintwork, Spoiler, Sports seats, Tinted glass.

This to me says Elegance and not Ambiante. The radio/cd unit says STREAM on it, but no reference to MP3, nor any cables that I can see.

Not being near the car now, where do I find the chassis number.

I've edited previous post so please read it again (about VIN number)

So, now we're sure it doesn't have AUX connector in jumbo box. It has started from 07 models. See your lights switch symbols and let us know if it has tunnel symbol.

The ring pull thing in the jumbo box is to allow air from the aircon system in - so in summer you could have a can of drink in there and if the vent is open and you have the climate temp on low, cold air will go into the jumbo box. You should have the same in the glovebox too.

I didn't think the light assist was standard on the Elegance.

I have a 55 plate 1.9TDI Elegance and I don't have light assist. This is the UK spec.

As others have said, the aux socket didn't come in till 07MY.

The ring pull thing is actually to allow/stop air con air into the 'jumbo' box. Suppose to allow you to chill stuff in the box similar to the glovebox. EDIT - RUnboy just beat me to it!

Hope this helps.

Sure, that all helps. I just got to work out what I need to do to get MP3 and Bluetooth and SATNav in the car now. I read the links on Octavia-VRS.com but it all means nothing to me. Seems I will lose the CD multi changer if I opt to use the MP3 kit that's mentioned. I could do with an MFD2 for SATNAV but that appears to not support MP3 (alegedly), and some of the pics on the Bluetooth section have a Maxidot display in them, which I do not have.

Help. I reckon I can scrape together £500 for all that lot above, and would like to get it done in the next month but I need a steer on what to fork out my money on. Last thing I want to do it buy something that won't work or I lose functionality elsewhere on (like the CD changer).

Light Assist certainly wasn't standard on my 06 Elegance - it was on the options list at the time I believe

My 08 elegance doesn't have tunnell lights.

and thats still the case. only octy to have it as standard is the l and k and scout iirc

IIRC, 06 plates as of June 2006 had the MP3 jack in the arm rest (sorry, jumbo box).

Mine was built in July 06 and had it.

Yep that's about right. I think they changed in late May.

Yes, your car is 07 model, built in mid 06. That's the way it works. Mine is 06 model built in late 05.
