VRS fabia coilover fitting?

Featured Replies

any help would be appreciated from you guys...

I have just bought some Jamex coilovers for my VRS, and although i have fitted lowered shocks and springs before, i havnt fitted coilovers

im not sure if a bit is missing from my kit, there seems to be no upper spring mount/seat on the front coilovers, and im not sure if i have to reuse the OE parts and topmount, or if i have to get onto the suppliers for the right bit!

also at the back if anyone has a pic of the fitting for the lower spring mounts id appreciate it...

any guides/photos appreciated

cheers

You need to use Standard strut top mounts and bearings, worth replacing them with new from the dealers while you are there.

And if you lower beyond 40mm you will require shorter droplinks too as the ARB rubs on the driveshaft.

On the back the cup sits on the lower spring mount and the bolt and steel plate are attached from below, the spring gets the rubber bung from the top of the OEM one put in also.

While your at the dealers worth picking up a new set of rear bumpstops too.

i'm not a mechanic but i'm pretty sure that the coilovers for the front include just a spring and shock absorber, so these would be a direct replacement for the springs and shocks on the car, the mounts and other bits will remain the same as already on the car.

just fit as if you were replacing the shock absorber. :)

Thanks alot guys, just what i was hoping, ive just seen pics of coilovers that include an upper spring seat on the front ( as the springs are so much narrower than the OE ones so the OE spring seat wont fit i assume)

pretty straight forward then, any ideas on dealer prices for the topmounts/bearings?

I have a receipt in my folder up the stairs, gimme 10 mins and i'll find it for you.

while your on the talk of bumpstops, i know a lot of people who fit eibach springs cut the bumpstops in half, do you do this when fitting coils aswell?

Strut Top Mount - 6Q0412331B - Retail = £10.62+VAT Each

Top Mount Bearing - 6N0412249C - Retail = £9.50+VAT Each

Cant recall the bumpstops but around £7 rings a bell.

I never cut the bumpstops as I dont tend to run it too low, but i think the problem with eibachs was the standard dampers were too sloppy allowing the bumpstops to be used. V3's are stiff enough not to bring them into play, or so I hope ;)

i will get down to the stealers soon i think and pick up some, then itl just be a nice straight in and out swap when i get time to change em :)

i think when i get mine fitted they are going to go as low as the car will allow so also looking for any tips myself.

im planning on a 60mm drop for daily driving, but id like the opportunity to do a full 100mm slam for shows etc....

run a bit of tuck on some standard wheels or some 16" BBS RS :D

do they not come as part of the vmaxx kit?

I dunno mate, they never came with the KW's, I dont think they do as I only found them by trailing through forums as I didnt want to take the time/risk finding out which mondeo ones fitted

i knew they were available, my mate is trying to get into being a vmaxx dealer so i'll find out when my coils arrive. but it will be getting dropped as low as it will go and then some more.

anyone got any pics of the fitting of the rears? im gonna do mine this weekend and want to know if the adjustable spring platforms go at the bottom on the trailing arm, or on the top, replacing the rubber spring mount at the top

cheers

They are a seat and bolt on using a small plate on the bottom of the arm, once you get under there its fairly straight forward and obvious

just ditch the adjusters and have it all the way down!

I fitted Jamex coilovers on mine a few weeks back, I would recommend getting them fitted on a ramp, as the front struts are a pig to get out, it's hard to drop the front hub down enough to get the strut out, a job that I thought would only take me an hour took me about 3!! The rears are a piece of cake, take mintues to fit. Get slamming! I still need to get the lowered drop links, which Mondeo ones are they?

Are these Jamex coilovers any good then?

Where did you get them, and how is the ride?

I bought them off the bay, the ride is OK, it's more supportive than when I had lowered springs and std shocks, but is a little less forgiving!

But that's what you get when you have the lowered look!

I think they are good value for money, you could spend 2 or 3 times the amount on a set, and I'm not sure of the advantages?

thanks for the help and advice guys, il let you know ( with pics!) how i get on :)

ok, looks like ive been defeated!

despite spending about 3 hours on one front strut i couldnt for the life of me get the hub far enough down to get the strut out of it :S i dont know what i was doing wrong but the strut would only budge about half a cm upwards, then just stayed wedged there and moved no further, so there was no hope of getting it out :(

Were you jacked up on the wishbone? and did you have a spreader in the strut cup?

  • Author

i think the problem was i didnt have a proper spreader tool, so i made my own, and it obviouslt didnt spread the strut cup bit quite wide enough to move it any great distance lol, should probly hit up VW for a proper tool today

a big hammer usually solves all
