crash

Hi ppl, coming home from work with the wife this afternoon a :censored: in a van was over taking a line of traffic & side swiped our car, his mirror has dented the windscreen pillar shattered our mirror, scrapped down the wing, both doors & back wing. Drivers door won't open from the outside as its caved in a bit, he didnt stop, only by chance an off duty traffic copper saw what happened & followed him in a layby a mile away & stopped him driving off, we'd stopped & called the police anyway.

20mins later the police turned up 2 cars, 1 went to speak to the :censored: 1 to us.

Turns out he only lives about 6 miles away, company van.

No injurys to us, I'm guessing the car will be a write off?

Will post a photo 2morrow folks.

Company Van? His company won't be too pleased to see his van damaged and trying to drive away from the scene of an RTA

What car is it you have?

From the sounds of it they may write it off cause the windscreen pillar is damaged.

Hope it all gets sorted and said van man gets the book thrown at him for trying to drive off.

Doesn't sound like a write-off, but glad the culprit was caught up with.

Sorry to hear of your mishap chipstar. Could have been much worse. Glad you're all okay and that at least they got the guy responsible.

only had the car 7 months went to ipswich last wk-end fully laden boot 3passengers 56mpg

As no one was injured the police will let the insurance companies deal with the damage. They might take him to court, where he will probably make up a story that it wasn't his fault etc etc & he'll get a fine and a few points. As long as you are both Ok and the car is fixed or replaced and you're not out of pocket. The van driver might have a bigger problem with his boss.

Be he was using the co firm van without permission for private use.

Most firms stop private use these days.

you never know, i didnt think my octy would have been written off but that was the end result. :thumbdwn:

as you say though, at least the guy didnt get away with it.

If as I think chipstar is saying, the guy failed to stop but was pulled by an off-duty police officer who saw it happen. There could indeed be serious consequence for this guy. Let's hope they throw the book at him, though I do agree it doesn't seem to work that way these days.

On a friday afternoon?

Why do you think he would have been using it without permission?

As for the car being a write off - it's possible but not hugely likely.

Any pictures?

Forgive me for being a novice but how do i get a photo from over 2meg in size to the 500k needed to post on here?

Cheers

Holiday from work? Pulling a sickie?

Co I used to work for now uses trackers, and ANY unauthorised use is excluded from insurance and as such a disciplinary leading to the sack.

Just a thought. Why else would he do a runner if he was allowed to use the van? Usually for a fault claim you have to repay a set amount - usually £200-£500 for the excess, so the company would be unlikely to care too much about pranging a vehicle. It happens.
