Coolant levels low...?

Featured Replies

Hello all...

I was just filling the washer fluid bottle up and saw that the coolant level was just above minimum. Any recommendations for coolant for the Skoda Octavia 1.8T 4X4? Should you level be looked at when it is cold or when hot? When should it be filled when hot or cold (the engine that is).

Thanks

Aaquil.

The level is set when the engine is cold.

When cold, and if the coolant level is just a fraction low, then I would just top it up with some tap water..... better than mixing different types of coolants.

What colour coolant is it?

VAG coolant has special corrosion inhibitors and is either G11, G12(pink) or G12+( purple) iirc.

G12 and G12+ can be mixed with each other.

Do I need to go to a Skoda stealership to get more coolant/antifreeze or should I top up with water?

Can I get some stuff from Halfrauds?

Getting from a stealership all week will be hard (due to work) halfrauds will be easy.

By the way thanks for all the replies

I pretty sure its G12 you need for same colour. You can get it from any Audi, Seat, Skoda or vw dealership. Not sure if the halfrauds stuff is VAG spec.

I would not dilute,Antifreeze also acts as a coolant so a perfect mix is probably best.

Amazingly enough it is back at the correct levels?!!!

Did I miss something or is there a reason for this?

Were you parked on level ground?

Is the engine now warm? The level will increase whilst the engine is warm, then it will decrease again as it cools.
