ok, here is what I did not like, but have in mind, this is from my point of view,

more like a speedy VRS point of view rather that a L&K luxomobile.

in the comfortabillity department I have no complaints whatsoever..

so here goes:

1) the suspension

it was way too soft for sports driving..excellent for cruising though

after the abt chip, I posted my very first post in this forum some 18months ago asking for help..

i put nothing extravagant, just bilstein sprint/eibachs and am very pleased since then

2) the wheels

way too small, with power above 200hp they keep spinning and spinning..

I really liked the ones originally with the car, but 16 is a no-no size.. I wish they where bigger...

put 18's and you grip the tarmac like a combi

also the was a thing in very fast wide turns (>180), not feeling very stable at the back, but fixed that by putting 255/35/18's rear side

also the feedback from the steering wheel became much much better with 18's

3) the brakes

very ok for normal use, not very ok for my use

I plan to put some big porsche brakes on the car

the above 3 are only applicable to those that want to have fun with the car..;)

4) the car is so so quiet, i love it... there is only some wind noise from the mirrors i think at speeds above 200km (well, I had to write this also..dont think anything disturbing, it's just that there is no other noise..)

5) once I had an accident in the track, i had to remove the front bumper and carry it for 50km

then I realised that the rear seats do not fold, but I managd to fit the entire big front bumper in the rear seat space (thats a big bumper by the way)

6) the absence of a maxi dot display in 1.8T versions..

I really like that on big audi's.. I could have boost pressure, oil temp etc info in the display and keep the car real tidy

7) finally the absence of a 2.7biturbo engine.. baaaaah, that would be pure perfect!!

I've seen a lovely 52 reg Superb Elegance' date=' with 2.8 V6 and a manual gearbox. The price is similar to the current value of my Octavia vRS. I love the vRS, but the Superb would be cheaper to run and insure, and would have a lot more toys. Still, it's a luxo-barge that wouldn't be anywhere near as fast as my Jabba'd Octy, and it certainly wouldn't handle as well.

So what should I do?[/quote']

How could a 2.8 litre v6 with 30 valves POSSIBLY be cheaper to run than a 4-cylinder turbo car???

About the handling....true...no good, but then again, it's a luxury boat...acceleration and top speed...it's fast...pretty fast for a big boat, 193bhp... and I believe the Superb is quoted as fast (if not faster) from 0-100 and it has a higher top speed..more torque too...so if you're ever on a freeway you will fly...

Keep your Octy...:D

Keep your Octy...:D

Actually, this is quite an old thread, but coincidentally, I've just put my Octy up for sale. I'm buying the luxo-barge, but not a Superb. Likely I'll be going for a late 90s A8 4.2 Quattro Sport, or maybe a mid 90s S8.

144 in the copy I'm looking at.

Skoda quote a maximim speed of 235km/h (146mph) and 7.9 secs for 0-100km/h for the Octavia vRS BUT the performance figures are measured without the vehicle being fitted with any equipment such as air conditioning' date=' mud flaps, which affect the performance.[/i'] ;)

I believe all their cars are tested this way :D

Oh my god you are right it IS old...funnily though, it was highlighted when I logged in

If you know an Audi specialist - may be a good move. However those cars are 7 years old - so expect major work.

A superb would be a better deal mind - 2 - 3 years old will be cheaper still.

How old is this thread?

What car did you end up with?

Have you still got it? or have you changed again!

I bought that 52 plate 2.8 V6 (well, maybe it was another one, but it was a good price). Here's my experience:

Its pretty thirsty when cold, by the end of my road in the morning its averaged 5mpg, couple of miles on I get to work and its averaged 17mpg, but if I keep driving on A roads in traffic it gets up to high 30s, motorway its about 30mpg.

Insurance isn't cheap, but then, this is a pretty fast car. I've seen an indicated 143mph, still accelerating, but traffic ahead slowed me down. Throttle response is brilliant, a slight touch and it moves away surprisingly well, and that V6 just keeps revving.

But, as standard, this is not a sports car, its built for luxury, don't confuse straightline performance with speed, it leans round corners, wallows when you adjust cornering line, pitches heavily under braking and acceleration. It will need springs, dampers, wheels and tyres to fix that. That said, I'm very happy with the car, it is my luxury vehicle, brilliant for long trips, I've driven 1100 miles in two days and got out feeling fresh and comfortable and looking forwards to the next days driving.

Glad your enjoying it, Had a 130bhp Tdi on a 24 hr test drive, an managed to do only 450miles in it, loverly cars:thumbup:
