skoda dealer parts dept rant

Featured Replies

:soapbox:

why is it that you can order parts from a vw dealer and they can get them 'next day' if they have them in stock at HQ, whereas you order the same part with the same part number from a skoda dealer and it takes 2 days???

anybody else noticed this or is it just sparshatt's of fareham that do this??

My local dealer states two days, but if you give a hint that you're desperate, they will get it next day.

I've forgotten the exact reason (I was told) but basically, it's down to them saving money on the delivery. I'm not sure if all dealers would be willing to offer a next day service in urgent situations.

When i worked in the parts dept we used to order parts on "VOR" which means vehicle off road and that was next day delivery.

For retail parts ordering it was 2 days.

Depends on what time the parts are ordered.

If they have them in stock at the parts warehouse in the midlands and the order is processed before 3.30pm then you should get them next day with no penalty. Orders after 3.30 can be premium ordered at a charge of £5 per line. There are limits on VOR items, for example you cant order an ashtray VOR. Also airbags and other hazzardous materials cannot be ordered VOR/Next day as they are a special transport.

Everything else is two day order (except batteries which are 5-7 days iirc and keys which are 5-10)

Get yourself an account at TPS Tom, next day on everything if it's in the UK.

It's the same with Mobile phone bits. If we have them in stock at the hub the logisitics means it's next day as long as ordered by 2pm, if not it's the day after. If it's ordered after 2pm on a thursday it's going to be monday.

The logistics to work outside these hours are available but it would push the costs up beyond economical and therefore we would only use them in an emergency.

Unfortunately if we don't have stock the ETA is impossible to predict as the manufacturers are hopeless, I would have thought VAG were a little better at this.

It annoys me when you've got to give any dealer the full VIN number to order something small, or universal across the range..

Thats so they have the confidence to ensure you have the correct bit. It is annoying though I agree, especially when you KNOW that its consistent throughout the range etc... :(

i can see it being cheaper on two day, but the company i work for runs the VAG warehouse up north and the logistics of it so i cant see why it cant be before 9am as we do thru the nite and before 9 as some of the delivery options in the parcels section of the company.

It did however take the vw garage across the road from me 2 days to get the wires to make my mp3 lead, the wires could have easily been stuck in an envelope and posted.

well, suprise suprise........

my parts still aren't in (ordered them on late thursday)..... but i'm assured they are on vor for tomorrow, why couldn't they have done that in the first place:confused:

As said before its all down to that magical phrase 'VOR'.

VOR, or next day delivery, is only available up till 3:30PM, and even then, if you order it later than 2:30pm the number of lines must be less than 10% of the lines you submit for ordering via 'replenish' or 2 day delivery, or the parts dept dont get their bonus on that part.

ordering after 3.30pm for next day = premium delivery, = an extra £5 PER LINE ordered, and then only up till 5:30pm.

we usually say 2 days for people that order parts and, and most are happy with it, however if they need it next day, then we'll try and do that for them. obviously, we're not going to completely thrash our replenish to stock ordering ratio for a few customers (not more than 35% VOR to stock orders or dordon gets arsy with you)

Babs: sometimes something you think might be universal accross the range isnt. subtle differences in colour, or mounting, etc etc.

how late thursday? if after 3 then they SHOULD have gone on stock order for saturday delivery. any half decent partsman would have checked saturdays delivery, and had they not turned up, ordered them for a tuesday delivery (no deliveries sunday or monday).

sounds like someone forgot to order one...

what does joe public care about stock replenishing ratios??? i just want my parts, could have had them next day if i'd ordered them from my local vw dealer

so order them from your local VW then. they'll have the same standards and targets as us, if they choose to order more parts VOR then thats up to them.

Yeah, I know our guys have been watching the % of VOR orders as I believe you get penalised for to many,

But either way even on a two day order it should have been here by now.

All the VAG parts come from the same parts warehouse at Dorden (sp?) if stocked in the UK. Parts will come by factory order from the relavant contries.
