Fabia VRS clonk!

Featured Replies

I have recently had the 20000 service done on my car, and for the second time had the 'fix' (bodge?) done to clear up a clonking noise at the front nearside.

This I believe involves putting some special grease on the gearbox mount.

My problem is that this only lasts for about 2 weeks on this car (My previous one seemed to be fully cured by it).

Does anyone know of a better fix or do I just put up with it sounding as though the front nearside suspension is on its way out?

It only happens when cruising at around 30mph with a neutral throttle on mildly bumpy roads - but it still get on your t***

:thumbdwn:

I'd make sure it isn't something else if I were you, as I thought the engine mount 'mod' was a permanent fix if done correctly...

Hey,

If it is the gearbox mount then i don't know much about it. But i had a very similar problem and it turned out to be the drop link which goes between the suspension and anti roll bar.

The rubber cap had split on the bottom of the link, releasing all the grease, and then allowing a very small amount of movement. I only heard it when going over rough ground or cobbles at slowish speeds (30-50), but it did sound quite loud and like there was somthing very loose.

If you go over alot of speed bumps etc, then i would definately get the drop links checked, because they get alot of abuse with speed bumps.

Keep us updated on the problem. . .

Mike

i'd go for the drop link also , my bro just had one fitted to his 56 plate VRS
