Big screen advice

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm looking for a bit of advice for buying a large LCD screen.

Essential specs:

52"ish in size

1080p resolution

Ability to connect to a PC at panel's native resolution

RS-232 control system with public protocol.

It's primarily going to be used as a digital noticeboard, and I was looking at the Sharp LC52X20E before I saw that it would only connect to a PC in the following resolutions:

VGA 640 x 480

SVGA 800 x 600

XGA 1024 x 768

WXGA 1360 x 768

SXGA 1280 x 1024

SXGA+ 1400 x 1050

which will presumably lead to a blurred picture when hooked up to a PC?

Thanks in advance,

Is that when using the VGA input?

I've seen that on a lot of panels , but if you feed the HDMI input from a PC with DVI output then you'll be able to run at the full 1080p resolution.

The Sony KDL-40W2000s we use for just that sort of purpose have the same limitation on the VGA

We've got one of them at home - we've never had any blurring happen using the VGA input, although we can't get it to display without a black box round the outside of the picture when watching iPlayer or WHY...

OK, thanks Alex (again!)

If you decide to go for a Bravia, let me know :)
