new car mileage?

Featured Replies

So, I've just collected my race blue Octy Vrs TFSI estate and I'm very happy. Except for one small thing...

I've bought it second hand from a delaer (renaming nameless) and on my order form the mileage shows "12700 approx" and this is what I remember as the Autotrader ad said 12,600 so but I realised that a couple of test drives would add a bit on. However, since then (when I paid my deposit) and picking it up today the mileage is now just over 12,900.

I queried this with the salesman and he said whoever wrote it down must have made a mistake. I argued for a bit saying that I'm pretty sure it was correct on the order form but he swore blind that it hadn't moved out of their lot.

So... I've made the final payment and taken it home but instead of being happy I've got this niggling doubt that they continued to use the car for test drives after taking my deposit. While it's 'only' 200 miles more it's the principle that bugs me.

So, good people of Briskoda, do I just say to hell with it, I've got my new car which is otherwise spot on or kick up a fuss??

Cheers,

Balham

To be fair 200 miles could be a simple mistake or a part of that could be driving the car to be valeted or many other things.

If it's a main dealer etc, I'd just state your disappointment and ask them to chuck in a set of mats and a paint touch up kit as a good will gesture.

Now that you have paid I don't think you really have that much come back.

I think you're probably right - not the end of the world by any means as it's a great car!

Be happy with the car and forget about it, it's not really worth it and your new purchase should more than make up for it in smiles ;)

I would say fill the tank with fuel and go for a long drive, by the time you get back it should be out of your mind.

If it was 2,000 miles difference then I'd be royally p***** off;

..... but 200 miles, perhaps a bit 'thick' for a quick road test, running to get it valeted etc but, hey, a drop in the ocean on the 12,700 already on the clock.

I'd put the issue behind me, perhaps have a joke with the dealer about one of their mechanics/salesmen taking it for an extended road test, and go off for a good blat in the car this weekend :D;) and enjoy!

Good luck.

Just make sure it hasnt gone through any speed scameras during those extra miles that have appeared as it may have been an employee who now doesnt want to own up to it....:(

Sorry to be so cheery

Just get a letter confirming the date, time and mileage on the clock at handover and you will be fine :)

I really wouldn't worry too much, mate; just enjoy your new car!

Having been for a long drive, I now have the OCD out of my system and agree that any extra miles are neither really here nor there now that it's sitting on my driveway!

Cheers,

Balham

Thats good to hear, enjoy your car.

my new car had 109 miles on the clock when delivered today! eek! I expected them to deliver on a truck but they drove it to me instead....

...anyway, just drive it - you'll love it, I know I'm enjoying mine :)

when i bought mine it had 50 mile ish on the clock which peed me, now on 16k im happy knowing ive had some good trips with it.

200 miles isn,t worth haggling about and its probally a admin mistake so no worries and go and enjoy it:thumbup:
