Rear disk conversion

Featured Replies

Hi there folks, just a quick question, on a fabia 1.4Mpi would it be possible for a rear disk conversion to be done? Would I need to change the hubs and all or would it be quicker to find a written off VRS and swap the rear Axle over? Has anyone done this to a fabia and what were there experiences? Also, a basic question, what grade of oil does the Fabia1.4Mpi need?

Cheers guys,

Doug.

I suspect you would need the whole rear beam from a fabia with rear brake discs. Probably not as uncommon as you might think as most salvaged ones should be fine (with most crashes being front end, the rear beam should be intact)

In theory I guess, you just transplant the rear beams, and hook the brakes up to the hydraulics. One thing I'm not sure of is if the ABS will talk, what with your ABS being drum based. Thats something I'm not sure about at all.

Hmm, So I could end up with dodgey brakes and a computer fault? The main reason for asking is that a friend of mine recently did this on his 306 and was wondering if it was possible on a Fabia. A computer fault could be put right but i'd hate to have rear brakes that are not very effective.

i have also been looking into this, i don't have abs which is a upside to the conversion. let me know how it works out

Remember that the 9N Polo and 6L Ibiza will also use these back axles. You will need to change the handbrake cables as well I would think.

Oil for the 1.4MPI would be 5-40 I think - are you currently using dino, semi-syn or syn?

I didn't think that the back brakes did much, anyway; surely all you'd be doing is increasing the cost of the brake services and replacements every few miles?!

Trust me, i drove my friends 306 before and after the conversion... you notice, bigtime.
