Next year's roadtax....

Featured Replies

I'm still wondering what the hell mine will be. I'm a little confused due to the work that's been done to my car.

Now, the 2009/2010 brackets are for 121-130g/km is £90 p.a

and the bracket for 131-140 is going to be £110 p.a. (Yeah, I know, both aren't bad really)

The fabia vRS falls into the £110 bracket with (I think) an official CO2 of 136g/km (I stand to be corrected if wrong - can't be bothered to go look)

The thing thats got me is I looked up my car's oem spec (100bhp PD TDI) and apparently mine is 129g/km, which puts it into the £90 tax bracket. Now, the thing is, my engine swap was all done cosure, and my V5 states the new engine number, however I'm starting to think the CO2 rating has not been changed (I will have to check when I get home tomorrow night I suppose)

So, what will my road fund license be end of May 2009? :D If it's £90, I can't but feel (as an accountant with ethical principles of practise) as if I were slightly screwing the government out of £20. Some people may say we should screw them out every penny we can. ;)

Discuss.

When you sent the V5 off with change of engine number you did the right thing. I'd forget about it tbh. :)

Just got my renewal, vRS is 143g so £120, so thats another £10 you have saved :D

Well, I never intended to do it (I hadn't actually thought about it needing doing through the whole thing) - It was a side-effect of having a private plate. I went to DVLA to do the paperwork, and happened to mention it to them. So they immediately put the clanger on, saying I'd have to come in for an inspection once it was done. :D So, I ended up having a nice lady in a hi-viz jacket poke around in my engine bay to get the number off the head, and send off the necessary form.

Actually, I've just thought. Now I'm running a ported head, that came off a different car.... Is the engine number on the head or the block as I might have to tell them again I think?!

Given that your car is pumping out more carp than an intercity125 whatever you pay , you will be screwing the system

There was another thread about CO2 emissions on the vRS not so long ago. Will try and find the thread. I did some digging and found that there's a bit of movement on the emissions over the production run of the car. So much so that the Euro4 cars actually put out more than an early model with the long gearbox

So it could end up with people with the same model, but of different ages, paying different amounts of road tax.

Rates effective from April 2009

Date of Registration 6 Months 12 Months Band CO2 (g/km)

28 Jul 2003 – 1 Sep 2004 £60.50 £110.00 E 138

1 Sep 2004 – 1 Jan 2007 £66.00 £120.00 F 143-146

1 Jan 2007 – 31 Mar 2007 £60.50 £110.00 E 140

these figures are from parkers.co.uk and show an early or late vrs will pay £10 less,

which isn't really much to worry about compared with eg subaru forester goind from

£210--->£300---->£430 over the next few yrs.

We're still in the 2008/2009 thing though. :) I'm wondering more about the 09/10 period. I also paid £120 this year for mine, but then I think everyone did who had CO2 from I think 121 to 150 g/km.

Seen as foreign cars don't pay any toll/tax to run on our roads might have to re-register car in switzerland (m-way tax £20 pa) :D

The Co figure is only applicable at registration, what happens afterwards doesnt matter.

The engine number is on the block. The CO2 emissions are proportional to the fuel consumption, so if it's more economical the CO2 should be less. Maybe you should ask them for a refund:)

The rated CO2 emissions are derived from tests done under set conditions, I would suspect that the real world CO2 emissions would vary.

The VED changes could be squished by the Lords.

Several MPs that voted in favour are having a change of heart after the deluge of letters from their angry constituants telling them what was announced today.

Brown Lied in Parliament. So, technically, MPs *could* ask for a revote as the voted based on being misled by the gov.

It makes almost no difference to me. I go up £5 then down £5 then up £5 again over the next few years. Still £115-120 a year for an unmodified 148mph car isn’t too bad:D

Anyone know the new road tax for pre-01 fabia 1.9 TDIs? Just wondering how it compares. The price is never shown in the news articles meh.

Think it will be £185 next year.

Thanks. Same as last year then I think. How am I to cope...! :D

I always wanted Road Tax to be included in the tax on petrol. Heavy road users and uneconomical cars pay more tax. Simple. Economical drivers, even those with apparently uneconomical cars will pay less if they adapt their driving style. Mind you there is so much tax on petrol now, I prefer the current system.:(

If we lived in a country with reasonable taxation on such commodities, then yes - I'd be inclined to agree.

Hey ho, back to the status quo

I've had 2 PD100s - the newer (AXR engine code) is 129g/km, but the older (ATD) was higher - I think it might have been 135.

These were both estates which may be different to a hatch but it seems it does make a difference whether it's an old PD100 or a new PD100...

I'm just chuffed my big V6 is only £185 going up to £200 in 2010!!!

As if you'll still have it then!

according to my mate who works for the dvla...

lol, see they don't think about stuff like that - you can change your engine size on the V5 - but there is nowhere to alter your CO2 emissions!

no point clicking the post ref. as i took it from edinburghcruise

So Technically, Reading in to KTPs post- whats is to stop you paying the same CO2 emmisions tax for a 1.8t converted Fabia Vrs?

Seen as they can't change the emission section?
