Cool, now to get hold of a 3G (Jesus) iPhone with an o2 contract... :rubchin:

I got mine this morning, but have yet to play with it... Flipping iTunes wont work in a VirtualBox session, and I know have to resort to dual-booting Windows :(

Someone buy me a MacBook for Christmas please ;)

The only problem you have, is that unlike the original iphone where you could leave the o2/apple store with your phone and no contract, the new iphone requires all the paperwork and contracts to be done before your leave the store therefore you are stuck with o2 for 12-18 months min contract to get your phone.

Unless you buy on PAYG.

Unless you buy on PAYG.

Forgot about that, I wonder how much they will be on payg.

I think I saw figures of £300 being banded around.

I think it's maybe of more interest to those with the V1 iPhone and OS2.0 installed.

Just to point out that the pownage tool for v2 isnt out yet... (and wont be for the next few days at least)

and iirc its a mac only :(

Yeah I just watched a video of it. Looks quite slick, somone has spent some time on it.

You will be lucky to get one right now. Stock is a massive issue.

New iphone will not be out till around christmas on PAYG :(.

Apple have loads of stock but they can't cope with the amount of people wanting them, due to the time it takes to sign someone up to the contract.

Like mentioned you can't just walk into a store and buy one,you have got to sign up for a contact before you can take it away.

Most stores have waiting lists 50 deep currently...

I saw a few people walking around with them at Bluewater yesterday so there must be a store up ther which has them.

I had a text from 02 in the week appologising for me not being able to buy one on the opening day

Been playing with mine for a couple of days now.

First Impressions:

Seems lighter somehow (don't think it is)

Nice to hold (pebble like) with shiny new rounded back

Glass area is slightly bigger +2mm each side (same size screen, but metal bezel is slimmer)

All metal buttons (nice sharp machined feel)

New metal grill/mesh over microphone and speaker/earpiece holes

Far superior sound quality and higher top volume (especially loud speaker)

Not sure if it is new, but unit remembers individual vol levels for headphone, speaker, earpiece (may even be application specific - ie iPod vol and YouTube vol may be tailored?)

3G speed - approaches WiFi (AFAICT), can watch YouTube and Movie trailers on the move. 50 emails download in about 3 secs!! This phone is probably the first point of 3G (I know you can have 3G laptop cards etc, but thats not exactly what the mobile telecoms companies envisaged)

Downside: currently BBC iPlayer tests WiFi access and refuses player access without even though 3G should just about cope.

New calculator is fantastic. 1) No more accidentally pressing "C" instead of equals! (don't know if anyone else did this) 2) Orientation triggered scientific calc is very well spec'd (reminds me of HP or Texas Intruments landscape calcs) - even has rand number generator. 16 digit display (even pi and rand have 16 digits!)

GPS function - this is so cool. On using the triangulate/locate "target" button the map function it automatically finds you using cell network as before, but outside (or near window or in satellite RF "transparent" structure) it will track you to meters accuracy using the GPS chip.

And yes I mean track. It is live. A cool pulsing electric blue spot on the map follows you in realtime. So I walk around my garden or street and it tracks me on map or satellite image!!

This phone also justifies (and can now use) the unlimited downloads on O2 tarrif.

Just one thought, why does my PC still take almost a minute to boot up to usable state so I can request mail and internet.

Yet even from fully off the iPhone can do the same in seconds (and most of that is proabably validating with the cell network and getting your passcodes)?

Me being me, couldnt wait so upgraded my piephone to 2.0 thru itunes and strangely it has said it is activated and working with my non-iphone o2 sim! wahaay! so ive got a legitimite(ish) iphone :D

Bonus!!!

Well thats me sorted for phones now :D

N95 is personal phone, piephone is now works phone with Exchange activesync

Slight annoyance with activesync at the mo.. it only push's the inbox folder.

being that im a sys admin and get hundreds of emails a day, i have lots of server-side rules to filter to various folders, on WM i could choose which folders to sync and alert me to new emails.

Cant wait for the pwned ver of this software, i want my toys back!

Im still struggling to downgrade back to 1.1.4 :(

This method works mate, the main problem is it will have changed the baseband so you need to bootneuter it back down

Downgrade your 2.0 iPhone to 1.1.4 - iClarified version | iPhoneIndiaBlog.com

worked on mine twice now, once after the accidental upgrade, and once about 10 mins ago, the important thing to remember is you can only do it with Itunes 7.5 and your prolly on 7.7?
